I knew Marty Robbins version first. Then I heard Gord and thought, "good god, it's cool to be a Canadian who can claim this guy as one of their own". No offence to Marty, but Gord is the man. Check out Dave Bidini's new book on Gord.
I like listening to Gordon anytime, any media. He's a very special artist., truly brilliant. This a is great clip. I have another fond memory at 61 as I remember back to watching the Cash show with my Grandmother on TV in Minneapolis. Johnny had many special guest stars, like Lightfoot and many others, which only added to the show's popularty.

glad to see that music stands the test of time where the gibson 12 guitr he is playing in 69 is the same one he plays on his current tour 41 years latter the older the guitar the sweeter the music..
This is vintage Gordon! I didn't know he appeared on Johnny Cash's show - until I found it here. Great stuff.
I heard Gordy's not doing well. I'm not sure he's going to be touring much longer. Someone told me he was supposed to bring the Olympic flag in with Anne Murray but didn't - that's interesting. And sad if true.
I'm constantly amazed at the clips from the old Johnny Cash Show. He was on the cutting edge of what was going on in music at that time. The lineup of musical legends that appeared on his show is just mind-boggling. This clip is no exception, Gordon Lightfoot before he hit it really big. Tremendous.
Don't you miss the old variety shows like Johnny Cash,Glen Campbell and even The Carpenters did 3 tv specials.I wish a cable station would run them again. Also I'd like to recommend a Moody Blues dvd called Hall of Fame,a live concert[sadly the last one for Ray Thomas]Saw them once outdoors at Jones Beach Stadium. What a great group!
Saw Gordon 2 years ago at a theater in the round on Long Island. His voice was very weak at first but the audience was 110 percent behind him.He admiited he no longer could sing many of his best songs but people called out "We don't care we love you, please sing them"His voice got gradually stronger and it was a great night!I'm amzed he still tours,I'd think he's close to 70.He clearly still loves preforming.
Im glad these men met each other......

They do sound amazing together, and the extended version of Softly is glorious.
On a side note, this is the video I show my friends whenever they challenge my belief that young Gord was hot. :3

Wow.
The sounds of the Toronto folk scene meet the deep South?
Magnificent! North American entertainment at its best.

He's lucky to be alive. Was very about 2 years ago and I'm amazed he's come back as strongly as he has, and that he's touring again.
Awesome talent.
