This song rocks so fucking hard. I also love Plant's singing in his high voice. You may notice that he sings in a lower voice at MSG '73 and Earls Court '75, although it isn't surprising he probably can't hit those high notes as well after so much touring.
lol what the fuck are you saying? "sooooo bad"? You were looking for Nightwish and found Led Zeppelin? Seems like you found so much more than you were looking for! :P

How do you do it Jimmy Page?! John Bonham RIP best drummer of all time. Robert Plant no one can do what you did. John Paul Jones you rep that Piano! This music makes me cry from happiness.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Zeppelin is great and I love the Acapulco Gold reference. This is a great version, I'm not sure I've heard before. But calling them "immortal gods" is a bit far. Remember they embraced evil, immorality, dark magic and the like. Jon Bonham died. His soul may have been lost to bring us this great music. The rest have had time to repent, but Bonham paid the ultimate price. Remember the price paid so that we can indulge in some great Rock & Roll.
Yeah this was a weird post. Just thought I would add something different to the "they are immortal gods" comments. Just something to think about for those who believe and still love rock & roll and especially the greatest band of all time Led Zeppelin.
Of course Zeppelin is not evil, but it is true that Page enjoyed black magic and was influenced by Allister Crowley (bought his house and all). They all participated in sketchy rituals and took great joy in hedonism. We all love their excesses. Sex, drugs, violence. They are just folks who did immoral things, but John Bonham died before he could repent of such acts. Maybe you believe that matters and maybe not, but if Jesus is real (as I believe) then poor Bonham paid the price.
they didnt do spiritual rituals, your church sed they did because they were losing thier youth populate to music and "hippism", you are the true evil one that can take songs made by a band like led zeppelin and make something evel out of it, to see evil is to be true evil my friend, and may you fins god on the sunny side of the rainbow, rather than a bunch of demons with guitars on the other, peace
You sound slightly tramatized. Did your parents kick you out when you were young b/c of Rock. I'm under 30 and never attended a church who could care less about Zeppelin or the non existent influence of Rock on society in the 21st century. I read about the rituals in "Hammer of the Gods" a best selling book on Zeppelin. No demons in Zeppelin just a well documented interest in black magic and Alister Crowley. No need to get so worked up.
did my parents kick me out when i was young becuase of rock? im 15 douchebag, obviously more mature, its like saying, i dont like that, then u say, ur mom likes that, get a life, maybe a girlfriend (or bf w/e the fuck u like to do) and stop picking fights on ppl about weither some1 likes god or satan and if u could give less of a rats ass why did you read a book about it, then start a fight with me? pls fuck off m8, get a life
You just sounded so angry with the "you are the true evil" and the church is demonizing Zeppelin talk. I thought you had to have grown up during and been deeply affected by the time when churches were rallying against rock music. I would never guess guess anyone born after 1980 would have heard churches condemning rock music. As for the book. Robert Plant says "I want to believe Hammer of the Gods because it has done huge favors for us in terms of aura". Good read about a Great Band.
guessing bonham didnt believe in jesus so why comment?? get your point from your perspective..

i for one believe that the boys were good people who brought happieness and awareness to millions, define immortal?? what they choose to belive is up to them and noone else to decide if it's right or wrong..
I never thought about Bonham believing in Jesus. I'm not sure about the muslim connection, I never declared anyone an "infidel" or anything similar. Just eluded to the idea that some people die before they get the chance to repent. They can believe whatever, its their life. Their music makes me happy. I'm really digging "Fool in the Rain" lately, but sometimes I wonder if it takes a life of sex, drugs and rock and roll like Zeppelin opitimises to create amazing music and what effect that has
oh but you did, claiming a non-christian is a sinner by christian measures is exactly the same as a muslim judging a christian by islamic measures..
what ticks me off is how christians often are so full of themselves, how it's perfectly fine to be judgemental and proud of it because it's an accepted and well known religion.. it's one thing to criticize the art and give reason for your opinions, another to criticize a man for leading a life your faith does not approve of..
I never mentioned the word sin. And everyone judges everyone by some standard. You for example are judging all Christians. Saying they are so full of themselves, but what do you base that on. Your own ideas and opinions? I believe it says in the Bible to "judge not, lest ye be judged" and that "pride comes before a fall". Where are your reasons for critisizing all Christians. Where's your proof? Why would you criticize a man for leading a life of faith that you don't approve of? Respect?
I'm gonna quote myself on this one - "ticks me off is how christians OFTEN are so full of themselves" did i write always, or often?? I didn't criticize your lifestyle, i criticized your critique of his lifestyle, you didn't use the word sinner but you might as well have..
between the lines was this: "that poor guy did drugs and had sex and now he's burning cause he died before he could be forgiven by the one true god"
again, say what you think about his work, not his lifestyle..
lol the cuts in the film maybe because they are 2 diff sources lol audio is from 72-73 video is 77 and Immortal gods is a good term for them there music would always live on.....
Immortal gods? Get real. Do you know what that word immortal means? I like the song and the group but come on man! Please try and keep perspective.
Plus, if these guys were running for office, they would have to answer for all the over dubs and films splices on this vid. This was not a live performance by any stretch.
It's such an incredibly magical song (definitely my fav Led Zeppelin song). To see the boys rock it on stage is so epic. Performances like this make Zep the immortal gods that they are today.
fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck, i hate living during this time period. today's music sucks so much fuck!!! If only i could have been born back in the 60s so i could listen to this great music and go to a concert like this!!
I'm trying to learn this song on guitar, I've been teaching myself how to play for about two months. I'm just having trouble with the chords. Anyone have some tips?
I just waked and baked to this, it's fucking great
I got that it's about when a girl you love hurts you and doesn't wanna be with you so you get this lost feeling and don't know what to do, then you fire up some acapulco gold and realize that it's all bullshit, so you can now see the open road
My favorite part is at 3:07 when Jp Jones and Bonzo lock in. Jonesy starts of with that funky bass line and then Bonzo starts to lay down that groove with his right foot with a medium spread on the hats for a very tasteful compliment to what Jimmy and Jones are playing improv at it's finest!
the vid of seattle kingdome ´77 combined with the soundtrack from long beach arena (or LA forum?) 1975, which is available on "how the west was won" :D I love it ^^
Ha! I've been wondering the same thing! If I interviewed Robert Plant, that's exactly what I'd ask him. From what I can tell, Plant's voice is so high by nature that what sounds like falsetto is actually just his regular voice going really high. I don't think he can do that any more and it's one reason why he doesn't go falsetto now in these parts of these songs (except for Since I've Been Loving You) because he never did back then in the first place.
i think its from the live cd how the west was won disc one it sounds a lot like it but it could be something different although after listening to both of them i think its the same recording
I'd have to disagree whole heartedly with you about zep being a live band. Sure they had a few great concerts but for the most part their live stuff was horrible, especially when it came to plant.
I read that the band played their best in New York and on the west coast. They called California their home base when they were in the states and put on the best shows for the big cities on the coasts and basically went through the motions for the Detroits, St. Louis' and Atlanta's of the world.
A studio band??! This is the most obtuse thing you could possibly have said. No rock band -without exception- performs live as skillfully Zeppelin, and those that even come close can be counted on one hand.
Hendrix's live and studio work are obviously night and day, but I cannot believe you would say that he is "not that technical". I'm pretty stoned now, so perhaps I am hallucinating -listen the the BBC Drivin' South or Hear my Train Comin' from his blues album. And did you really mean to say that Clapton is more skilled than Hendrix or Page?! I love (early) Clapton but it seems obvious to me there are only two possible candidates for "best electric guitarist", and they're both named Jimmy.
You're right of course, and I realized this as as soon as I hit "post comment".
But if we really want to get pedantic and split hairs, Jimi Hendrix was, if I'm not mistaken, born "Jimmy Hendricks" and so in the strictest sense was indeed "named" Jimmy.
Well if we REALLY wanted to get pedantic i'd say that Jimi Hendrix was born Johnny Allen Hendrix in 1942, then when his dad got out of the army he renamed his son James Marshall Hendrix.
So "Hendricks" wasn't the original spelling? I could have sworn... In any case, thanks for the correction (and congratulations if you knew all this without googling it).
My point, as I'm sure you've gathered, is that I couldn't let quibblings of this sort get in the way of what I found to be an irresistibly pithy statement.
i agree with most of that except with the singing part. dont get me wrong robert has a great voice for zeppelin but over all hes not the greatest ever id say freddie mercury is overall the best
Fuck i wish i could get his tone!

I think that Jesus Christ has taught some good lessons. I don`t think he is god, but just someone who had great ideas at that time.
Today`s christianism is shitty and hypocratic. Have your faith, but don`t let yourself be inside the dirty world called religion.
There is only one way of thinking that should be approved: ROCK AND ROLL. Live your life as there is no tomorrow, enjoy every moment.

My favorite part is at 3:07 when Jp Jones and Bonzo lock in. Jonesy starts of with that funky bass line and then Bonzo starts to lay down that groove with his right foot with a medium spread on the hats for a very tasteful compliment to what Jimmy and Jones are playing improv at it's finest!

the vid of seattle kingdome ´77 combined with the soundtrack from long beach arena (or LA forum?) 1975, which is available on "how the west was won" :D I love it ^^
ZiSt1989 3 years ago 3
the soundtrack is from those venues, but was recorded back in 1972, not 1975.

ok thanks a lot :)

wow, this is even better than the 1975 earls court version. Zeppelin Rocks!

One of the best performances of this song I've seen.
On the other performances of this song, he doesn't seem to have the same vibe he has here.

Its a shame there is so little filming from 77 tour!

This was a mindblowing performance! Absolutely brilliant!

I'm curious to know how Robert Plant (and others) vocalize like this.
Starting with the vocals at 1:43, is this technically a falsetto with a bit of edge? or how would one classify it?
awebzz 3 years ago

They say the magic present in Stairway to Heaven is the way in which it builds. In my opinion, this song builds SO much better.
This is easily their best song. Head and shoulders above their second best song.

for me, a close second to Travelling Riverside Blues.

Ya this my favorite song ever

hendrix wasnt that technical...was a great composer..
where as jimmy is much more technical and just as good a composper..
clapton _> both..
anyway...zep are a live band...i almost hate the studio recordings...
the exact opposite of teh beatles...
lolironmaiden 3 years ago
I'd have to disagree whole heartedly with you about zep being a live band. Sure they had a few great concerts but for the most part their live stuff was horrible, especially when it came to plant.
bstime32 3 years ago
grr I posted this by accident I mean't to say "especially when it came to plant and page. They are pretty much considered to be a "studio band".
bstime32 3 years ago
No they aren't. They are considered a live band clown.
PorkChops250 3 years ago 2
I read that the band played their best in New York and on the west coast. They called California their home base when they were in the states and put on the best shows for the big cities on the coasts and basically went through the motions for the Detroits, St. Louis' and Atlanta's of the world.
isgoodno 3 years ago
A studio band??! This is the most obtuse thing you could possibly have said. No rock band -without exception- performs live as skillfully Zeppelin, and those that even come close can be counted on one hand.
You're a clown indeed.
polymath7 3 years ago
Ya bands like Black Sabbath and The jimi hendrix experience
DxRox22 3 years ago
Both ecxellent bands, Dx, and I would add Cream and The Who.
But I put Zepp in a class of one because each man in the band is arguably the very best at what he does.
polymath7 3 years ago
your right

Hendrix's live and studio work are obviously night and day, but I cannot believe you would say that he is "not that technical". I'm pretty stoned now, so perhaps I am hallucinating -listen the the BBC Drivin' South or Hear my Train Comin' from his blues album. And did you really mean to say that Clapton is more skilled than Hendrix or Page?! I love (early) Clapton but it seems obvious to me there are only two possible candidates for "best electric guitarist", and they're both named Jimmy.
polymath7 3 years ago
Quote: "and they're both named Jimmy."
Sorry but one is name Jimi. Just thought i'd point that out.
Al25401 3 years ago
You're right of course, and I realized this as as soon as I hit "post comment".
But if we really want to get pedantic and split hairs, Jimi Hendrix was, if I'm not mistaken, born "Jimmy Hendricks" and so in the strictest sense was indeed "named" Jimmy.
polymath7 3 years ago
Well if we REALLY wanted to get pedantic i'd say that Jimi Hendrix was born Johnny Allen Hendrix in 1942, then when his dad got out of the army he renamed his son James Marshall Hendrix.
Al25401 3 years ago
So "Hendricks" wasn't the original spelling? I could have sworn... In any case, thanks for the correction (and congratulations if you knew all this without googling it).
My point, as I'm sure you've gathered, is that I couldn't let quibblings of this sort get in the way of what I found to be an irresistibly pithy statement.
polymath7 3 years ago
"jimmy hendricks" was the original spelling.
