  • Amazing. I feel so privileged to live on a planet where a solar eclipse is possible and to be able to see the solar corona like that.

  • IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • The eclipse is so beautiful and to see it is amazing people say the eclipse is god showing people hes still there

  • ...And that will be the last thing you see with your naked eye.

  • This my 2nd time seeing this happen. My 1st time I was little nd my 2nd time is this video...thankzs.

  • lol it was like i took 4 hrs for the sun to go away0_0

  • Comment removed

  • 5:45 you couldn't just make it 4 minutes 20 seconds...

  • This didnt show up in my inbox...

  • @personperson666

Dismiss this i didn't realize with was from 2009...

  • @personperson666 this is 2 years old

    XD

i almost made the same mistake.

  • I don't mean to offend but the permanent laughter does get annoying after a while...

  • Why does she has to sound a little like orgasming when my dad walks past my room door?

  • She Lols at everything she says. LOL

  • I got eye floaters like two weeks after I saw a solar eclipse with naked eyes!

  • Wait, is it not dangerous to look at it with a naked eye?

  • on wednesday is the next solar eclipse, yeah :D

    I wanna see it :D

but one question, can I use normal sun glasses instead of special sun glasses for solar eclipse?

  • @94kricco Sorry to reply late.

I hope you didn't look at the sun with normal sunglasses, though. It is not a good idea.

  • @Nadritch I looked on the sun with normal sunglasses the 1st of june this year, and It was no problem with that, some clouds was shadowing the sun too

  • 4:56

歡迎來到寧波,希望你喜歡日全蝕。 Welcome to Ningbo, wish you enjoy the solar eclipse

  • did the temperature actually really drop? or are you like exaggerating? nice vid its helped my understanding a lot

  • @lazer1235

I believe the temperature only drops by about 0.5 degrees Celsius, but because that drop would happen very quickly, you can probably notice it -- like the temperature drop when you step into the shade on a sunny day.

  • @plusplusplusplusp nice metaphorical analogy you gave me there

  • @lazer1235

I suppose that's what an eclipse essentially is: a shadow blocking the sun's light and heat.

  • Wow. You travelled all the way to China to see a total eclipse...that's what I call dedication :)

  • Thank you so much for sharing.

  • I heard somewhere a long time ago that it was dangerous to look at a solar eclipse, even at totality because the corona emits a lot of ultraviolet light. So, even though it does not appear bright, it can do serious harm to your vision. If this is so, the girl may have really harmed her eyes. Am I wrong?

  • You should NEVER look at the Sun directly with naked eyes, esp the Sun in eclipse. It damages the eyesight. Seeing the first two minutes of this video tells me it is made by some ignorant people who don't even know you are not supposed to look at the eclipse with naked eye. So I am not going to waste my time watching the rest.

  • Failed prediction below...

  • Cool but were going to die march 19 2011

  • solar eclipses are part of humanity

  • Simply loved this video...so full of life and energy. I got excited at totality as if I was there. Well done.

  • i looks pretty cool, it's just like a night for about 1-2 hours and then day again :P

  • I've seen a total lunar eclipse, that one's cool too, and actually the night gets even darker

  • 9 people think dragons attacked the sun.

  • I was lucky enough to see the 2008 august 1 eclipse in a wonderful desert location in Xinjiang in Western China. Something that really made the hairs rise on the back on my neck... amazing, incredible, and worth the journey..

  • wow, That's really somthing, I missed the partial solar eclipse the other day, so now i gotta wait until 2015 :(

  • She acting like she saw a double rainbow.

  • why do people get soo amased in eclipes its not like something special is gonna happen.

  • @residentevil808 Um, because it goes completely dark in the middle of the day?

  • i thought if you look at a solar eclipse you go blind?

  • So its, correct me if I'm wrong, a Lunar Eclipse for N.A., S.A., etc(?) & a Solar Eclipse for China, etc(?)

Will USA ever witness a Solar ? Or just a Lunar ? Does this happen every year ?

  • @funkyfresh111213 idOnt Know If We Will Have A Solar But A Lunarr Happends Every Thousands Of Yearss Last Night At 2:15 Of dec.21 That When It Happend & The Next One Is In 373 Years.

  • Oh so it does get dark?

    Thanks for the insight

  • it's all ready started :D

  • I know I can't wait to see it ;) me nd my boyfriend are going to share the moment together-3

  • lunar eclipse tonight at 1:30 AM:))

  • your not suppose to look at it...itll blind you..the radiation

  • I thought you couldn't directly look at a solar eclipse because it can damage your eyes?

  • DON'T use film to look at the sun, ever! DO NOT follow her example!

  • This is amazing. For a second everythinng is Black,But then a beautiful sight emerges

  • I've seen a lunar eclipse once, but there won't be a solar eclipse over the U.S. until 2017.

  • @frankjohnson123 2024...or at least i thought

  • @landophant It's both. The 2017 one will have a shorter duration but will peak over Kentucky. The 2024 one is about twice as long but maxes over Mexico. 2017 will also be more visible to the western half of the U.S.

  • @frankjohnson123 thank you, i wasnt sure

  • how do you know thats venus

  • COOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL very cool

  • lol BIRD CHIRPS

  • I remember when I was little I saw one, back in Holland! It was so amazing and intense! Even though I did not quite understood what was exactly happening, I was still mesmerized by the beauty of it all. We also had those fun little glasses. :)

  • The next Total Eclipse is November 13, 2012 – Australia and the Pacific Ocean, it's a must see!

  • shes probably eyeballless.

  • the next solar eclipse is on my birthday its August 21,2015

  • how wonderful, I would love to see the next one , did you make it to the one on easter island by any chance? Cause that's a magical place to watch something like that surrounded by all the mistery of the statues

  • omg this is so funny, i was just watching the show robinhood, season 3 episode 1 witht he eclispse

  • You're still not supposed to look right at it. Though I probably would have.

  • That was a great clip! I hope you made it to the 2010 eclipse :). What was the rather unique building that appeared in several of your shots? It is all angles is the only way I could describe it. Thank you again.

  • Amazing, I love how she spoke with details. Made me feel like I was part of the show : D

    I LOVE these scientists!!!!

    Thank you for the videos!!

  • wow this woman doesnt shut up

  • @Slacktoo why r u watching this video if you dont like her to talk.??? fucking retarded asshole

  • lol dragon eat a sun?..xd

  • she said naked EWWWWWWW

  • you should never look at the sun eclipse with your bare eyes

  • crap when the hell is it going to come to the united states

  • @mojoe121424 ugh i feel you man

  • @SchrodingersPet en(dot)wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/Solar_eclipse_of_August_21,_2017

    I hope you're patient.

  • Awsome !!!

  • Just a warning for everybody going to watch a solar eclipse. During the partial phase before and after totality it is very unsafe for the eyes to watch true a dark piece of film as shown in this video. She is lucky there is the combination of clouds + the filter, otherwise permanent eye damage can be the result. Special filters are needed made of black polymer (called mylar filter) or aluminized polyester films.

  • isnt it bad looking at an eclipse with your eye? it does some damage to your eyeballs but idk wha kind.

  • its just a solaer eclipes not jesus

  • I get fascinated whenever I see news of a Solar Eclipse anywhere in the world. But I get let down when people make videos where all they do is point the cam at the sun. Your video was perfect. You captured the event, the surroundings, what was happening before, during and after. The next best thing to being there. and in 16x9 too, great job.

  • There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

    Romans 3:10-11

  • Thank you so much .....BRAVO!

  • Excellent! And such a bubbly lady to talk us through the event.

I wish, I'd gone to Easter Island to see this years eclipse; I never knew the eclipse was sooo... well, it was just fantastic, amazing really.

I look forward to the solar eclipse in 2012, where-ever that is.

    Take care all:)

  • lose some weight!!! the flight might be cheaper if ya do! lol

  • @Eirexeyes asshole

  • @0915molly you are an asshole... i see you need to lose some too...

  • @Eirexeyes jajaja that's exactly what i would expect your lame ass to say... when you've never seen me in that fucking miserable shit you call life!...Grow The Fuck Up..

  • I really enjoyed this video. I have a huge interest in space, flight, and what's out there. I can watch Carl Sagan go on and on all day long. I am glued to this type of thing. I must admit The nice woman in the video is the type of woman I could spend every second of my life with. She could talk all day long about anything and I don't think I'd want to be anywhere else! Bravo!

  • May I ask.. Can everyone in the world see this??

    Thank you so much

  • I was in shanghai when this video is taken, rained out and was not able to watch this eclipse, but I saw the sudden plunge into darkness in shanghai was amazing, the whole city with it's lights on as day turn to night.

  • i would like to see a solcar eclipse.. thanks for doing this video! ;)

  • Im a chinese and the man during 4:56 ~ 5:02 was saying in chinese "welcome to (a place in china) hope you like the solar eclipse" :)

  • Why the fuck does she laugh so much?

  • @ChevysphinX Because she's happy/excited?

  • @Damienf77 I mean ok I would be excited to, But it's like shes having orgasms lol.

  • twilight eclipse woohoo

  • realy love it how DR Amanda Bauer likes the solar eclipes ! she is smart ,beautiful and funny arrggg why cant all girls be like her

  • brady how many z7-s do you have...?

  • i never saw an eclipes before and that was awsome and scary

  • @exysay19124 You should try and see one... It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen! The camera does not do it justice!

  • @sixtysymbols how did you see venus.

  • @sixtysymbols Do you know when the next one will be? I'd love to see one.

  • @sixtysymbols how often do they happen coz i couldn't see that one last night ;(

  • @exysay19124 same

  • On my last trip to Carta Gena Colombia I didn't know there was going to be a total eclipse of the moon, but there was and I luckily had brought my most powerful camera lens. It is a 1400mm, used with a "doubler" it came to 2800mm. I got some amazing shots. Funny, I only went to celebrate my 59th birthday and was treated to an amazing event without even knowing about it. After all, Noah's flood, also started on my birthday, "the 17th day, of the second month." 2/17/1950.

  • wow i'll wait until june 11 2010 the solar eclise came out again i'm so excited

  • your dumb lmfao you need eye protective gear or else you will damage your eye

  • if im correct its dangerous to look directly at eclipses.

  • Lol she goes through all the trouble of making protective filters....

And then stares directly at the eclipse through bincoulars?!

  • No, you don't look at it, never look at the sun.

  • When is there going to be one in Britain?!

  • @JamezyBoy7Rocks

On October 7th 2135 one will pass directly over the UK. =P

Two others will pass close to the UK on March 20th 2015 09:46 UT to the north west. And on Septeber 3rd 2081 at 09:05 UT passing over the channel to the south.

  • soooooo cool! I'v never seen a total solar ecips!

  • i thought that you weren't supposed to stare at it with your eyes..

  • As others have already mentioned, is not watching the sun, eclipse or not, without glasses highly hazardous?

  • where does the money come from to fly around the world watching solar eclipses and be at university?

  • @cjellwood You don't pay for YT so enjoy the vid and pipe down.

  • no i would like to enjoy the solar eclipse itself so please let me know where the magic money fountain is please lol

  • @cjellwood It's not magic, it mostly comes from taxation from people like me who pay tax. Obviously.

  • so jeleous of you, I was also in china for the eclipse, but we had total cloud cover during totality.

  • 2:01 me and my cousin saw flashing lights in the back it was lightning right where the sun will set

  • Hey is it really safe to see a solar eclipse with the naked eye? I heard some people went blind for that. Very sad. Anywayz great video. It's solar eclipse here today :)

  • @jackbliss You can look at the eclipse just fine when it's total - you may not want to stare at the eclipse for the whole 4 minutes through the binoculars, probably want to limit that a bit.

But when you even have a sliver of the sun, you need to protect your eyes. The problem really is the hour or so before and after totality.

  • no u can go blind you should use special sunglasses to view one to protect your eyes

  • wow u guys are really lucky. despite the weather you got nice footage of the eclipse AS WELL AS some cool lighting bolts!

  • @dtadeo2006: I know it was amazing!

So many people I met at the airport on the way home saw nothing! I was sitting there in departures showing them the eclipse on my camera....

They travelled all that way to watch the eclipse on my little camera!

  • @sixtysymbols

Wow, how lucky you got to see it then!

I remember seeing a total eclipse when I was a little kid. I didn't really understand the rarity of what I was seeing, as I haven't seen one since. I'd like to see another one day...

  • beautiful

  • Why is it that whenever there is an eclipse the moon gets in the way?

  • i was trying to be family friendly while on film. and "gosh" was apparently all i could come up with in the moment... a little lame, i'll admit, but oh well.

  • Shouldn't she be wearing some kind of protective eye wear? Staring at the sun through binoculars is usually a bad idea...

  • during the few minutes of totality, it is perfectly safe to look at the sun with your naked eyes and through binoculars because the sun's photosphere is completely blocked.

but during the partial phases, you *must* use filters to protect your eyes or instant damage can occur!

  • i would guess she uses some kind of filter in the binoculars.. or else she is stupid ;)

  • Good job young lady!

  • I traveled to svalbard last year and I got to experience a total solar eclipse

  • how come the location always changes? im feeling so dumb lol i think i knw the answer lol

  • because the moon and the sun go opposite to each other so at only one point it they will be together

  • thanks :)

  • Looks like a lot of fun.

  • What a brilliantly constructed video.

Makes me proud to say ill be enrolling there in september.

    Well done!

  • @ItsOnlyDavid: Thanks David, you are welcome to comment on our videos any time!

And always good to hear from a Wellingborough lad - a town close to my heart... In fact I'll be there this weekend, so maybe I'll bump into you at the Swansgate! :)

  • well there ever be a total solar eclipse in north america in are lifetime again?

  • You're very welcome here in Chile. I'm really excited to be able to see a solar eclipse for the first time in my life, holy crap!

  • University of Nottingham, Easter Island???? Sounds good lol

  • More lucky than me, I was located on a rest area on the south shore of Hangzou Bay, and we barely saw totality with the impression to see a thick layer of frosted glass.

Technically we saw it but I gave a 1 on a scale between 0 and 5

  • I'm going to live at the campus in 2 years' time!! Can't wait. Even though this won't exactly be happening again any time soon over Ningbo...

  • I soo wish I was there.

  • I would have LOVED to be there! Im a huge astronomy geek!

  • very cool amanda!

  • Awesome video

  • very very nice

  • amazing

  • I live in Chile! Woohoo!

  • great stuff!!

  • Dr Amanda should have her own TV show with 60symbols!

  • Love her laugh :P

  • really ? i thought it was kinda annoying !

  • slightly excessive laughter, i'll admit... but i was too excited to keep it bottled up.

  • thank you for posting this lovely video :)

  • I saw a partial solar eclipse where I live some years ago. It was really fantastic (although it was not total eclipse), and I just feel really lucky, because there are people who might (unfortunately) never see a solar eclipse in their lives...unless they travel half way around the world to see it, like in this vid.

  • You are great guys! Again!

I'm happy that you could see it!

    Thanks!

  • This made me happy :)

  • I DIDNT LEARN NOT ONE SYMBOL IN 9 MINUTES.

But seriously awesome video I hope to see this in my lifetime, amazing how dark it got and I imagine it got just as cold too. really neat!

  • The symbol for this video:

  • i remember the solar eclipse in england, i was locked inside at a holiday camp. i have yet to forgive them...

  • That was great! Thanks Brady!

    (Manfrotto 501--nice :)

  • Dr. Bauer, you are the best astronomer EVER!!! Thanks for sharing this beautiful event with us.

    I really enjoyed it !

    Cheers from Venezuela

I been looking for a good video around the internet... THANKS!!!

P.S. You guys are so lucky... :P I have to wait until 2024 for that year's total solar eclipse to show up near where I live... just will have to travel a few Km south to enjoy it! :D

  • your lucky :) i have to wait untill 2135 ;(
