  • @latinpianist It was similar to the video posted below. You know, the one with the notes. Anyway, thanks for the tutorial. I wish I found it back then when I was learning this montuno. How long have you been playing anyway? I keep on looking for some resources on latin music. Do you think you could give me some suggestion? :-) I used the two books by Rebeca Mauleon. They are wonderul!

  • @88Wildone I've been playing for 8yrs. I know her and she is wonderful. Her books are great!!!

  • cant you prepare better for a lesson, you say so many wrong things, your more confusing than helping. my gosh this emberrasing!!!

  • @abrahammountain How is this emberrasing to you? ? Im not emberrased to be a great help for thousands out there looking for people who are willing to step it up who are not worried about criticism and are not intimidated by nothing. My lessons are not pro to this point, with the time that I have on my hands I can only do so much. I will soon prepare better lessons. I accept your critism and you're right but it cant be a negative thing to not be prepared.

  • Latinpianist, not only you play beautiful, but you like to share with others how to play it. Thank you for your tutorial. You are the ONLY ONE that "really" teaches the montuno. • hey can u play si tuvieras fe like that i've heard it but i cant do it,and la cosecha too

  • i can certainly do that. i will be making newer videos soon. Stay tuned

  • sounds good to me. I appreciate a free lesson and its been my experience that there is always something to learn and every musician has something to offer. I get what you are trying to show us, you don't have to play it all perfectly for it to make sense. thanks for the help latinpianist!

  • thank you so much for your comment.

  • Dude you messed up a lot. Check your video once more. I wrote the notes down on sheet music and it was totally going bad towards the end. You start off well but at the end you tell the viewer to do a note than you add some more while you're playing but you never tell the viewer. I find it a bit mediocre. You have much to learn. Just keep practicing and you'll get there. Just some constructive criticism. You'll definately throw a begginner off with the lesson.

  • well, i tried my best. thanks for the critizm though. I think im forgiven since they're free lessons. its the intention that counts. but thanks

  • what is the bass pattern to this latin pianist?

  • If you're refering to the left hand of the piano-player, it quite often doubles some or even all notes of the right hand - most importantly the deepest notes of the right hand (played by the thumb here), witch can also be doubled one octave up by the right 5th finger.

If you're refering to the actual bassline, it's better just to listen to tunes using it, since it's a common basic tumbao-bass, like in "Juliana" by DLG (watch?v=D9dBr1aW24E)

  • (sorry, this was supposed to be an answer to the question "what is the bass pattern to this latin pianist?")

  • Good job creating and posting all these videos. It helps a lot of us.

I'd like to point out that this progression is maybe better described as a i - iv - V - iv - i. What are described as passing tones outline an Fm7 chord. In your version you don't actually play an F, but as often happens in an ensemble, the piano may leave out notes that the bass player would fill out. In the video response music posted, there is an F bass followed by Ab, C and Eb (Fm7) in the middle of bar 1 and 3.

  • hey thanks. seems like you are very familiar with music.

  • Of course, any of the chords could be played with or without 7ths, 9ths, alterations, as preferred, but the feel is a popular i - iv - V progression.

    (continues)

  • Another minor point is the note referred to as G# should be referred to as Ab since the tonality or key of the progression is Cm. It's the same note, but notation convention is like that. Notice that when you write the accidentals (flats and sharps) for the key in front of the staff it takes care of that. In this case Cm has 3 flats (Bb, Eb, Ab) like its relative major key of Eb. So the note is written Ab automatically.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Hey. You know this part is with the left hand. Do you know how to do the right hand part? Because I do not know how to read piano music sheets.

  • you basically just do the same thing only that you add octaves. This is how i would play it. i dont know if thats what your mushic sheet says.

  • Yeah, that's what it says I think

Now with your examples I will go to the music store tomorrow, and watch out for a e-piano to study your pieces. Thanks in advance, carry on this way - please!

    Sincerely, Jens from Germany

  • Hello my German friend. Thank you for considering my music to be usefull for you. I really hope you learn and remember that im here if you have any questions.

  • love it great thanks!

  • gratsi

  • GRACIAS MANITO

  • de nada....

  • Ofcourse not.... I mean, for you it should'nt be hard too. F# minor, now that's hard.. well not when you practice it, but it'll take awhile.

  • its just that i get to hear the two sides of the story. first people are saying that my lessons are way to easy then that they are too hard. but i guess i have to consider that im teaching to every kind of person out there and many people might think that my videos are hard or easy. Dont get me wrong, thanks for commenting

  • Real hard to play???

  • is it

  • Good job!..what's the song btw called?

  • i dont know good question

  • i have no idea

  • Hey God Bless u bro i like this video but i want 2 kno how 2 fill up da rhythim usin da left hand side too

  • well generally speaking, do exaclty the same thing that you do with the right hand. The fingering and position is what you need to work on.

  • hey bro. first of all thank you for posting turorial videos for everyone who wants to learn more. God has given you a woderful gift and it has been a blessing to many musician. I have a request if you can please show me a latin move for the iv-vii-iii-i-v progression in Em. i would really appreciate it. thank you and God Bless.

  • Thank you so much man. This talent will remain in me if i stay humble. When i get home i will work on it and try to post it by tonight. God bless you too!

  • Hey brother, God bless you.

    Thank you for your kindness.

    I have a question.

Which alabanza explosiva can you play with this wonderful latin sound?

Thank you again. You are a true blessing to me.

I have been a member of my church 6 yrs and nobody teached me to play anything. I am learning by God's grace now. By the way those brothers that didn't teach me are gone now. Isn't that something!

    In Christ, whith much love.

    Mauricio.

  • God bless you too brother. Well, basically, any corito can be played with these two chords. You can add "este corito es" and other popular ones.

  • amazing man. thank you very much... you're a great teache.r

  • thank you for watching.

  • Thank you latipianist! I play accordion, I have never met anyone who could explain this as good as you do. On the same harmony or on the 2 chords, are there many other note choices to bring out the same rhythm? I hope you put out another video as you mention above. Best Regards, Manuel.

  • Thanks for the compliment. I used to always look for videos like these thats why i know people out there love these kinds of videos cause i really like to break them down. There are many other choices to bring out in the same rhythm. i can talk more about this in my upcoming videos.

  • Hey JC, do you like playing on weighted keys??

  • Yeah, think that the sounds comes out better with weighted keys.

  • Once again very nice. Can you help out with understanding the clave part? I confuse 3-2 with 2-3. I know this matters and I know it can be turned around or reversed. Does it matter how it starts? Also would like to see what your left hand is doing for this video. Thanks again for all.

  • Yeah. Clave 3-2 would be 1-2-3---1-2. Timing is really important so make sure you make a real pause in between 1-2-3 and 1-2. If you dont then you automatically switch to the 2-3 clave. In the 2-3 clave, 1-2---1-2-3. So the pause determines what clave it is. On my next video, i will show a bit about the clave. Also the bass on the left hand for THIS video would be C-G back and forth and then G-D. I know this is not enought but i will show you more later.

  • I was playing around with it and I started to figure out a bass part...it might not be the best but it sounds nice.... thank you for resopnding...

  • no problem. keep practicing

  • Thanks for the video, latinpianist. God Bless you.

  • nice video

  • Buen Video.. muchas gracias!!

COmo se veria con el bajo_????
