When they come down they usually can land anywhere from the ocean, the forest, even you're front yard, and the latex rubber lands on lets say a pile of grass, covering its sunlight and killing it slowly. Other effects include animals swallowing the balloon and dying. These are just a few common factors why its bad to let balloon fly away
