I respond: Friends are allowed to criticize each other. And I'm not even criticizing his/her moral choices; I'm just mentioning that she has a disability.
Are you telling me that I should never say anything that could possibly reflect negatively on a friend? If I have a friend who is blind, am I allowed to say that he's blind? Or does that count as "criticism" to you?
Figuring what words we should and shouldn't use was the whole point of the video. So tell me: What words should I use? How do I describe a friend who has this sort of problem?
yes, as I mentioned in the sidebar description box, it was inaccurate of me to use "mentally ill" as a synonym of "retarded". I was trying to find a way to say "retarded" without saying "retarded", and "mentally ill" is the best I came up with.
This furthers my point, though. It's really hard to talk about these things without somehow getting the words wrong and offending somebody.
I agree with what you're saying but mentally ill and retarded don't mean the same thing, so I don't know which thing your friend actually is. otherwise you are right on though, about not even being able to find a word to identify your friend.
The reason people even have the word retarted is because the "mentally challenged" would never be able to say that fully and straight without trailing off! "HI! I'M MEN.......I LIKE CHOCOLATE MILK" Example one Ralphie May says the same thing! XP
oh wow kid

You said: "he is criticizing you but at
the same time calling you his
"friend". Wow "

"Blank" sounds like a vegetative state.

About the R Word campaign... people are already using their alternative "LOID" (Lexically Or Intellectually Disabled) as an insult.

dude, I would be entirely offended if one of my friends thought I was blank.
is it all right if I link this video as an annotation link to my latest vid? It's about cuss words.
thanks.

"I would be entirely offended if one of my friends thought I was blank."
Well, I would be offended if someone thought I was a cripple. Unless, of course, I only had one leg, and thus I actually *was* a cripple.
Similarly, some people really do have mental problems. Recognizing that fact (in a well-intentioned manner) should be allowed.
And sure, you can use my video as an annotation.
