Looking forward to diving U-853 in August too. Do any charter companies out that way rent equipment? I just finished the PADI wreck course, and would love to penetrate this thing for a peek inside...
@peteb3527 Pete-I haven't lived on the East Coast in several years. Last I knew the dive shop in Newport rented gear and did charters out to the U-Boat. There were a couple in Rhode Island (forgot their name), and one out of Essex CT (forgot their name too). I'm sure you'll have a great time though!
Well, I dove this Sept 05 and water temp at depth was 54F, so I would suggest a 7mm or a drysuit. If you do dive it with your 5mm, be sure to wear hood/gloves even if surface water temps are warm. Our depth on this dive was 112 feet using 30% Nitrox. I would suggest using/renting a large, high pressure tank like a steel 119cf to give you plenty of air. Other items like a pony bottle and a signal sausge are also good. There can be a fair amount of current going up/down the lines. Have fun!
Hey thanks for your comments. Yeah, I'm just a sport diver and don't get a chance to do many wrecks so I had to make it as exciting as possible. Not to mention my footage of the sub itself was pretty lousy, so I thought I'd try it polish it up with some historical shots and loud music. However, if you like marine life, I should be loading up some clips from dives this week around Puget Sound in Washington.

I am planning on doing this dive in a late august. I am working on my PADI advanced open water.
Do you think a 5 Mil wetsuit is warm enough?
Any pointers or things I should know since you where there??

Do they have charter boats that go out to this wreck? How deep is it? Did you penetrate, and if so how was that?
Thanks!

Nice video but the music is a bit intense considering the 853 is such an easy dive.
Sorry to be a critic. I liked your work overall.
