WOW! There's Nothing like House Music! This brings back Memories! Me and my Friends used to go to Buy these tracks on the Saturday at places like Eight Ball Records, Vinyl Mania, Dance Tracks, Rock n Soul, etc... In NYC of Course. We used to then get Hyped up and head out Clubbin' to places like Daceteria/Melting Pot, Kasbar, Life, Palladium, Les Poulets, Esso, 72nd West, Etc... NYC should have a House Club!!! Those we're the Days!
I'm not sure what was meant for this track and how it should have been used. Personally it was an excellent DJ tool. You could keep cutting it in through a whole set if you had more than 2 decks.
Im reading some of the comments here and see some words such as "monotonous" and "boring" and I cant believe my eyes. I guess it takes a certain ear or dj skill to appreciate this classic cut. I come from the old school where djs ran records together, thereby creating a new song....this is PERFECT for that. And "monotonous???" The drum patterns constantly change! I guess this is coming from non-djs. Run this song through another song and see if the crowd agrees with those statements!!!
This is great drum programming and percussive arrangement and mean club track - but I think The Bounce is far superior to this. Bounce has got to be one of the best all time MAW tunes.....out of many....great post Otomi and many good memories with tunes like this. Thanks for the upload....respect to you.
ok,this tune is ok when you've necked a few little 1s,but other wise it's pretty shiitttee,,,there's nothing to it apart from a beat,,sorry folks but i find it very boring..
@kinzeUK yeah, there's a version of I think cult copy 3 which is an amazing lopsided groove! @loubenny thanks man, glad you're feeling it! bang bang bang :) @doublegone, yes the best - see my earlier discussion with rudimentaal - and *yes* - you *need* to hear this in a club :)
Hey we all love House & of course everyone is entitled to their opinion but "the best house track ever written...." really? Maybe I need to hear this in a club but to me this isn't even the best track these guys released under the Kenlou totem. Decent drum programming but not something that's going to stick in my memory.
the one of a few tracks which i can compare with the sensational beats - judging by its raw groove and by being as essential as this gem here - could be thomas bangalter's "what to do". yeah, it's not a classic house track, it's faster and it got those (i think 909) "techno" percussions, but it's classic in the same vein as this maw's percussive monster!!!
Each to their own I always say, you have every right to say what you feel is your personal fave - I can tell you what mine is whilst I'm here and that is: "Cult Copy" by Aardvark (200 And One remix) normally I don't rate that guy at all, very 'meh' sounding tracks. But that tune right there? Soon as I heard it that was fucking IT.
And I have heard MANY MANY a good house tune over the years. But that just for me is 11 out of 10.
Shame the rest of his stuff ain't nowhere near on par but still ;)
@rudimentaal - I have many favourites, house, techno, other genres, a million different things. I've only uploaded this one myself, because it doesn't seem to be anywhere else on Youtube with any quality. No need for me to list lots of different favourites of mine so we can argue endlessly about apples and oranges - I think it's the best house record ever, you don't. It's ok for us to have different opinions!
@0tomi Yes, peace. And for bringing this track on UT in high quality sound you bring us all in garage heaven. Or should that be Paradise Garage? Rewards and praise.
@rudimentaal, glad you like it :) I reserve the right to disagree though, I think it's the greatest *house* track ever, full stop. Not just the greatest MAW track. And while it's easy to do long impressive mixes with it for sure, you lose that raw power. It sounds even better on a big PA just out there on it's own. Thump, thump, thump... woooooo!
@0tomi I checked your and "guy i love most"'s favourites. The latter is kneedeep in techno and is obviously starring at the mirror allnight long. He don't like garage at all, no right to respond. You are worse, you have only one favourite, this record. You are both very unsensational.
MAN THANK YOU FOR JUST BEING OUT THERE THE WAY YOU ARE!!! (nh :D)
i mean, before i read your blog a few minutes ago i haven't felt this much understood over the music issues in a long time!!! :) i was just lookin' for sensational beats on the yt to share the link on my fb profile and then i've found your blog and got blown away by the similarity of our insights on this track!!! i'm in love with this track since '97 and i can relate to every mf sentence of your blog!!! appreciation!!!
@theguyilovemost - the point is the track is monotonous. It circles in some of the bangiest funkiest house drums ever written, and while it circles in place, *you* go somewhere.
@0tomi Masters@work made so many supreme tracks that it's useless to talk about their ultimate. This is definitely one of their highest moments. Those of you who don't feel that, don't worry. Sume-sigh-say, Moonshine etc are unfinished as well, . It's happening in the middle, guys. This is not rock 'n roll (nor techno). Nothing deep.
@the guy i love most This track is unfinished, you're right. This is the unmixed version. A good dj will mix it out into the next heaven. That's all there is.
Exactly. House is anything - a moment, an interlude, a break. Hence the line "Let your mind be free, re-lax your bod-ee" Any sound or rhythmic beat can be pure magic.
i normally like Masters at Work stuff but this, for me, is too monotonous and goes nowhere. i understand in a club on proper speakers this wld go down well and a few ppl here say they wld love how it has no melody, vocals, etc but for me, this track needs more, it sounds like a unfinished backing track. i like it's tribal, loose, groove, that's nice, but i prefer the IDM, techno, drum'n'bass from that era, eg, caustic window, u-ziq, adam f, LTJ bukem, etc
I agree that this is an absolute tune. And can I also say that maysonbanner has an unbelievable channel and I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates quality music.

This a a classic song, but I always caution when we use the term best of all time for anything 'cause it's so subjective.Good choice.

I was at a rave listening to DJ Dan and he dropped this (pitched up to +6) with his 130+ bpm Armand house and it STILL CRUSHED. & This is the B Side
