Good to see you online Josh...I first saw you at the SOLUTION BOWL in ATLANTA back in the 70's...got fired up about apologetics and have given away a lot of EVIDENCE THAT DEMANDS A VERDICT since then...still a great book! MORE THAN A CARPENTER is a great give-away too! smaller and a faster read.
Be encouraged and keep up the great video studies!
Yes, that is what he is saying. Jesus made it very clear in John 10:30 who He was when He said, 'I and the Father are one.' John's purpose in writing his gospel was to make clear the deity of Christ. John begins his gospel by saying in 1:1, 14 that Jesus is God—'the Word was God' and 'the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.'
So Penny, is Josh saying Jesus is the Father? Does he not believe in the doctrine of the Holy Trinity? Jesus is NOT the Father but the Eternal Son of
God or God the Son who became flesh. Yes, He was equal to the Father but He was NOT the Father. Please clear tjhe point up for me. I ask you point blank:
Is Josh saying Jesus was the Father in human form?
I am SHOCKED beyond anything you can say to me now in order to correct what you have just said. Unless I hear what you have just said from the lips of Josh McDowell himself, I must say I do not know Mr McDowell teaching such a herecy. The whole evangelical world would be aflame with this news.
Please will you ask Mr McDowell HIMSELF to answer this comment as Jesus IS NOT the Father. Jesus is the Son the second distinct person of the Godhead. He is the second person of the Trinity.
The Josh McDowell Ministry is a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, and we follow their statement of faith which says in regard to the Trinity, "There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons --Father, Son and Holy Spirit -- each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality." (cont'd)
It would probably be more clearly stated to say Jesus is God, rather than Jesus is the Father. When we speak of the Godhead of the Trinity, we sometimes refer to "God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit." I believe this better conveys the idea of what Josh is teaching, rather than to say Jesus is the Father. They are One, yet distinct, so when Jesus said, "I and the Father are one," it may be best interpreted as one in the sense of Godhead.
Thank you very much for clearing up this misaprehension. I must admit to you that I was flabbergasted to see Josh might have been perpetrting a heresy known as "Modalism". Never in all my years as a Christian had I thought he was teaching such rubbish, so when I saw your answer to Blogrich55, I was stunned.
Please forgive me for jumping to conclusions and thank you for your kindness in explaining the truth. I appreciate it very much. May God continue to bless the ministry.
You said it would probably be more clearly stated to say Jesus is God rather thanb Jesus is the Father. It is not a matter of clarity but accuracey. The statement that Jesus is the Father is just plain wrong. They are one being but not one person. God bless you.
I have no problem with that. We'll agree that Jesus is God. That's one of the three tenets that Josh's ministry has stood on for several decades -- the deity of Christ, the reliability of Scripture and the resurrection. Thanks for the blessings sent my way.
Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. (1 John 5:5-8)
If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. (1John 5:9-10 ESV)
Amen!

Of course you are not saying Jesus is the Father, right?

@JoshMcDowell So if there are 3 persons, would you agree that your christianity is polytheistic instead of monotheistic?
Nextstopearth 1 year ago
@Nextstopearth
Christianity is monotheistic--The Godhead is comprised of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit--three in one, the Trinity.
JoshMcDowell 1 year ago
@JoshMcDowell Well if there are three then it can't really be mono.....

You sound a bit confused Penny. It is important to remember that Jesus did not say:
"I am the Father." in John 10:30
You said it would probably be more clearly stated to say Jesus is God rather thanb Jesus is the Father. It is not a matter of clarity but accuracey. The statement that Jesus is the Father is just plain wrong. They are one being but not one person. God bless you.
