  • You must be Keith's son or something! Great work man! :D

  • Nice work. Your technique is much smoother than Keith Moon's. Less wasted motion for sure.

  • @junkdrum

Keith Moon's motion was due to the fact that he was deciding what note to play on-the-fly. It is hard to be economical, when you haven't decided what note your are going to play 2-3 notes from now. When playing like this, one is basically reducing the number of available notes that can be played as ones arm moves on a trajectory (at some point you play the only note that can be played). What appears to be excessive motion, is the act of holding open possibilities for more notes.

  • You can defiantly play the notes by keith but in order to do a proper cover you must be drunk off your ass and make funny faces as you spin around on the kit and bend really close to the drums to the point where you almost hit them :P

  • keiths the best rock drummer of all time.

  • its not impossible to play this note for note! i can do it just fine, you just have to really listen to what he plays and memorize it

  • nice work

  • havent u noticed he played double base drum and strapped hi hat u tool

  • moons better

  • awesome job keith moon :) You're the only one on youtube that I've seen do that solo correct. Keep up the work and keep rockin'

  • This is great.... I'm using this to work out the song for myself. Thanks for posting....

  • Thundering Great Rendition mg4150. A fitting tribute to the great man!

  • GREAT JOB BUD!

  • perhaps the greatest rock 'n' roll tune of all time u do a good job with the sticks. i think your intro to the vid was well said.

  • Fantastic stuff mate, it's really only when you see stuff in isolation like this that us non musicians can start to appreciate just what an amazing contribution Keith made. More please!

  • Amazing!! It's sad that i can only give you five stars, because I'd give you much more that that!! Great job!

  • Bravo, great job. Not only in how well match the drum part, but in your feel for it. You captured Keith's amazing ability to "lightly" POUND the drums. Once again, great touch!

  • that was awesome. i wish i can play drums like you. bad news is i never own drums set. that's my dream. i know it's not too late to learn how to play drums. i only use anything i can hit...table, upsidedown empty pale..anything. nobody can play like keith moon or john bonham but you are really good. if i can play like you that gonna be enough for me. GOOD JOB MAN!

  • its bad for your cymbals to be really lose like that you might want to tighten them a little trust me i learned the hard way

  • I don't know if anyone could play Keith note for note because of his excessive spontaneity but I doubt anyone has come closer than this. Great job of channeling one of the masters.

  • J'adore ce mec!il me rappelle Keith Moon!et puis j'adore les generiques des EXPERTS!

  • sounds great

  • damn dude

  • are those fiberskyns on your toms?

  • Hi, Yes, they are fiberskyns.

  • Keith Moon - One of Rocks most influential and colorful drummers. He's been gone a long time and is still missed. It's so nice that there are drummer like you out there that keep Keith's music and his spirit alive. Love the love - it is just as relevant today as was back in the day. Rock-on....

  • Is it true that Mr. Moon never used a hi-hat? Great job! Thanks for sharing your great talent!

  • Ha. I saw this video months ago and wanted to watch it again then stumbled across it. Fine demonstration, close up, of Keith Moons talent that I must say, you do very well. But, there is a far difference between imitation and creation. Moon created those moves, you merely mimicked them, albeit, very well.

  • Fabulous job.

  • there is a story that keith moon was having a real hard time getting the drumming in for won't get fooled again and that john bonham was sitting next to him at that session and giving him constant encouragement!!!!!!

  • It's pretty good man but you need another floor tom to hold drinks! Haha

  • LOL! Thanks!!

  • good work dude. now do this high and drunk off yer ass like he used to. heh

  • HA Ha, true. That would be the real test! LOL

  • haa yeah that would be a bit of a challenge lol

  • Sounds great.

  • Keith Moon #2

  • I've watched this like 10 times....guys incredible!

  • Awesome job!

  • very very nice cover :)

  • yeah d minor!

  • You seem to play so.... casual for lack of a better term and make it look so easy (I know it isn't). Like you're just kind of takin it easy on the drums. Are you doing this intentionaly, like you're not playing quite as hard as you normaly would so you don't drown out the audio track? If you were playing this with a full band, would you be really killin the drums like Moonie did or is this the way you play? I mean, it sounds great and IMO is the best WGFA cover on Youtube. I'm just curious.

  • Thanks. It's just the way I play. I do hit them with a lot of force but it's not necessary to hit the drums overly hard so I don't. Hitting a drum or cymbal too hard will actually spoil the sound. There's a "sweet spot" where they sound good and hitting them harder won't make them sound any better.

  • did you use triggers on your drums? they sound totally fake.

  • Huh?

    No.

  • i like your kit

  • Great job!

  • ..utterley brill, I must admit... did knock my socks off, too, PJPA4..

    : - )

  • this is brllant!

  • Excellent musician mg4150. You played that as if Moon was sitting right next to you. That's what made the Who so great of a band. This is probably why all of the CSI programs uses The Who music. Simply outstanding Sir.

  • i know the guy that does the music for csi lol

  • Superb. But, think how on earth moon came up with that? Simply amazing.... Well done sir!

  • woot woot nice dude

  • I've watched this 3+ times and I'm amazed every time!! Maybe Keith isn't really dead...........

  • haha i'm starting to have keith moon sightings now

  • Hell yeah....happy time...very nice, man...;))

  • brillant

  • surperb.i watched the moon play this 3 times,he would of approved.

  • sweet! knocked of all my socks

  • Bravo !

I am a Youtube cruiser. I seek out what I believe is true talent. You sir possess that talent. I am also a musician and recognize that in order to imitate a technician like Keith Moon it takes more than ability. It's a feeling. Thank you posting this video

  • WOW!!! you playd that perfectly, your realllly good

  • woah...

  • OMG that was perfect!

  • I saw The Who with Moon play this live, and while there will never be another drummer like him, you play this damn well!

  • holy crap man.. that drum solo was the original Keith Moon!! I can see him in you.. you are amazing man.. play Young Man Blues haha

  • You should have a drumoff with Zak Starkey. Seriously.

  • this is freakin' amazing. dude, you rock. :D

  • Comment removed

  • Hahha kickass! :D

  • You Rock Frank !!! *****

  • "This is my version. I hope I caught the feel and spirit of the song."

You hope?????? Fucking hell, you DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should play WITH the Who!!!!

  • Wow, found it, I thought you had taken this version off as I couldn't find it for a couple of days. You play this brilliant and it has helped me enormously with working it out for our set, I more or less play it your way as there ain't much good footage of Moony available. Nice one mate - you captuered what most fail to achieve and that's not just the ability to play it but add the right feel to it and the two have got to be there for it to work properly

  • that was amazing man

  • This was the best "Keith Moon Lives" drumming I have ever witnessed!

  • Awesome performance 5*s

  • Kieth Is That You

  • Good job. Clean sound.

  • Thanks for the nice comments!

Keith Moon humbled me but inspired me!

  • having watched several of these drum attempts, i can say this one is clearly the best!

  • YOU ARE GOOD!!!!!!!!

  • Keith would be proud!

  • awsome man keep it up

  • good job dude

  • Outstanding !!

  • brilliant this is one vid i wont get fed up with looking at. there are some great drum kits around gretch. hayman. rogers. ect can we have some more please

  • Awesome.

    Sign of a true Who-ligan.

    Moonie would be proud.

  • you are just one hell of a drumer thank you, thank you, thank you,it gave me doooseas just like the first time i heard this track. born in 51 i,m a boy was my first record .. this track will be the very last one i will hear before i meet the new boss, thank you for posting this tube keith would have been made up..

  • Your kit sounds exactly like Keith's... amazing!

  • woot play drums in my band plz

  • your kit sounds awesome

i was impressed by the cover

i also liked your disclaimer in the description. its good you did this out of appreciation

  • Awesome. Watched this clip probably 20 times or more, and everytime it just blows me away.

  • im back again looking at this video, and I'm sure its the best drumming of this song out there, very accurate and detailed playing..

  • That was a brilliant cover! You perfectly captured Keith Moons "spirit" in your playing. I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the diffrence between your playing and his! Keith Moon said just before he died "I'm still the best Keith Moon type drummer in the world." Well he has got some stiff competition from you!

  • This is amazing, great work. Love Keith Moon's drumming and this is just a great version.

  • holy crap, that was a hell of a job. i love the info for the song too, it was about to bring a tear to my eye, there will never be another drummer like keith moon, but you came pretty damn close. awesome job!!! also, gocatgo74123: well said, i agree!!

  • Wow!!!That was nice! Moon the Loon would be very proud! I've been playing for 40yrs,I couldn't even come close. If you would've destroyed your kit-or your bass drum would've exploded,I would have swore Moony was back from the dead!!!Nice job!!!Keep playin!

  • God DAMN your kit sounds good. Really good cover.

  • i have never met pete townshend but would like to share what a gent he is about 4 years ago i was feeling down i decided to write him,it was not a fan letter either not knowing his address i put pt of the who .weeks later i got a nice handwritten letter by him, plus chritmas cards over a 2 year period !pete if you read this thanks again.

  • Great job. How did you get your drums to sound so good on this?

  • you certainly caught the style of moonie, i think he be proud of you lol. how many years you have played the drums? and what set you have?

  • Wonderful rythm and I think you have captured Moon's style perfectly.

  • I've always admired drummers who set out to "reproduce" a song and then do it. Bermuda Schwartz of Weird Al fame comes to mind. Ha ha. But seriously, he has a gift for emulation. As far as the studio version of this song goes, I think you DID nail it note for note. Very nice.

  • what snare do you have? I really like the sound of it! x

  • hey this is great

  • You more than captured the feel of that one. You kicked it's ass. Mooney would be proud! You have tons of talent and your passion for the music shines through. It's a real pleasure to watch your videos. All of them. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you!!!

  • Outstanding work. Bravo!

  • Wow, terrific! It seems you never hit the 4th tom (2nd floor tom) until about 6:30, and even then, not much after that. That's intersting, as Keith had a giant slew of toms by this time (at least live). However, it seems like you are hitting tons of cymbals. What is your cymbal setup? Also, are you working the hats on your right side? Do you even have hats (Keith stopped using them live at some point, I believe)?

  • its so clear how? lol nice cover

  • Damn good cover! You really caught Keith's style, without copying him.

    Rock on!

  • A truly enjoyable viewing on Christmas day 2008. Well done dude! Keith, John, Eddie C.:

    Rest in Peace.

  • bro i love your vids

could you do some Simon Kirke/Bad Co?

    Thanks

  • This was the best drum cover version of this song on youtube!!

    Great!

    Cheers from Sweden

  • Do you know, is Zak Starkey still with them?

  • I'm 58, my teenage years being the exact "Beatle" years, 1963 to 1969. I grew up with the fab four, The Who, Kinks, The Stones etc.......Next year,I'm seeing Neil Young in January, Leonard Cohen in Feb and The Who in March, all at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre!! Bring on 2009!!!

  • That was just awesome!

    Great job!

    5 stars! :D

  • Yes, I realise that, doesn't worry me!!

  • I'm seeing The Who on the 24th of March, in Brisbane, Australia......can't wait!!!!

  • you're only seeing 2 of them. Regardless:)

  • I saw them about 8 years ago and Zak Starkey on drums reminded me of the earlier Who.

  • Could I be rude, and ask your age mg4150?

  • I'm older than 40 and not yet 50. XD

  • Me too. But not for much longer.

  • Hey! very nice job! :)

  • i wish i had a kit i cant afford :(

  • I've seen The Who at least 5 times, twice with Moon and my friend that is bloody amazing what you just showed me. It must be very rewarding to reach such a pinnacle of accomplishment with what you obviously love to do. Congratulations.

  • Thanks!

I wish I would have seen the Who with Keith. I felt like I had plenty of time to catch them in concert and I was sure wrong.

I saw them about 8 years ago with Zak Starkey and they were awesome. Pete, John and Roger played great and Zak played like Keith. Zak is a great drummer also!

  • i've watched all of your videos and you me inspire me as a fellow drummer. this has to be the coolest drumcover ive ever seen. good job and never stop!

  • Cool, Thanks!

  • Ya know, I am kind of a music snob...not easily impressed. It's not that I'm anyone special; I'm just that way. But I gotta say, I am extremely impressed. That was awesome! You take one of the all time greatest rock anthems played by one of the greatest drummers ever and make it look so easy. You have that Nick Mason (Pink Floyd, for those of you that don't know who he is) kind of style in that you actualy play the drums, not just keeping time, and you make it look so bloody easy!

  • Wow! Thanks a lot!!

  • WOW awesome timing dude

  • dude everytime i watch this i just think, "man that guy is good" i need you in my band!

  • WOW! Much Respect to you!

  • damn, those toms sound amazing.

  • congrats on making the most difficult drumming techniques of Keith Moon look easy ! Dude, you rock the drums ! Noone does fills quite the way Keith did...one of the most underrated drummers of all time...

  • dude good job lol my friend was like stop listening to keith moon, thats how good u were good jb man

  • What kind of china?

  • It's a Zildjian swish cymbal. 20 inch.

  • very good dude! R.I.P Keith moon

  • you can fairly beat the skins my son ! good job !

  • Very good cover dude.

I love drumming this song Keith is one of the most original drummers that ever lived.

How long have you played drums?

  • Love how the song just stops all instruments bit into the song and your just sitting there for like a minute doing nothing lol. Gj btw your awesome

  • fuckin nice man...look up the utube guy babyshambler. you and him hve the keith moon thing aced

  • this is so sick. great job man

  • OH MY GOD,the best cover i've seen!!

    Congrats men!!!

    5/5

  • did you do the hi hat right? it looked like you only did quarter notes.

  • I think that's all he plays is quarter notes on the hats and ride.

  • actually its 8th notes

  • Excellent job, but did you play over Moons drums or edit them out somehow? I may be wrong, but it does sound like you played along with the recording. Nice job anyway, just curious.

  • I played along with the original studio recording. You can hear Moons drums sometimes because I make a few mistakes if you listen closely.

  • No problem nobody listen closely, haha.

today i'll try do play this song like you men!!

    BB

  • Nailed it bro! You have more time on your hands that I do. Well done.

  • Superb.

  • wow cool drumheads!

  • spectacular

  • I have to say you're really really good but it's hard to read some of these things saying that it's like watching Keith Moon. I'm sorry but nobody will ever compare to Keith Moon, not even Zak Starkey... who is currently touring with The Who.

  • You rock!

  • Very cool. Moon's flow was ALWAYS different so it's irrelevant to copy.Have to say though,I've been analyzing his playing for over fourty years and STILL pick up on things I missed. Amazing for a drummer who was not technically proficient but incredibly "inventive" in his phrasing. Your video really shows whats going on and I found it instructive. We never really got great close ups of him behind the drums for a majority of the songs.Hey,if you didn't chart this... you have a great memory!!!

  • Thanks! Just from memory. No charts or tabs. I just play by ear.

I guess after many years of listening, it gets ingrained into my brain, what's left of it anyway!!! LOL

  • Haha yeahh!!!

  • Watching this makes me feel insanely insignificant.

You did an amazing job ^___^

  • WOW. I was going to comment, but words can not describe. It was like watching Moonie himself. Simply incredible.

  • Your snare sounds really nice man. Great job.

  • i like your heads, what kind are they?

  • i'm pretty sure those are Fiberskyns.

ment to replicate the old school real animal skin.

  • you did a spectacular job, you are the man.

  • WOW. You should try out for a professional band. As mentioned, if The Who tours again, they need to look you up! This is so awesome I've returned to this post 5x now.

  • Very nice this is great

  • why do u drink

  • I felt like I was listening to a cd. AMAZING WORK.

  • Dude thats amazing.

I got the (supposed) tabs for this in a book of classic rock, but watching you is so much easier than trying to read it note by note.

  • "Controlled Chaos" No shit, Moonie was unrepeatable but you have done a superb job, I tip my hat to you bud...

If THE WHO ever go back out on the road, look this guy up!

  • good job

  • you stil did great work

  • That was phenomenal absolutely amazing work!

  • wow dude, really, keith would be proud and same as below, i was reading comments, and forgot it wasnt keith playing! awesome dude, reveal yourself, im thiking your the stig :P

  • i would love to tune my drums like that but i have no idea how

    any tips

and by the way you are amazing dude

  • that's just freaking brilliant dude! Thanks for giving me a boost of inspiration.

  • very good

  • Good mate, very good.
