Hey, this is the guy who drove Siemens' mobile devision into it's death, right? certainly the right guy to put in charge! Also... this video is so ridiculous it feels like it was taken right out of the Office.
@astraub100 no. 10% per quarter? You dont read statistics much.Yes, they have lost percentage of marketshare, but between 2010 (RIM has a 20% market share in Q1) and 2011 (13% in Q1 2011), smart phone sales virtually doubled, so even though they had nearly half what they had in 2010, they still sold a few million more in that period than they did in the period they had a higher percentage of the total market. Something tells me the stock analysts are completely ignoring actual sales.
The fact of the matter is, Smartphones are increasingly growing in popularity, and Blackberry still manages to sell plenty of phones, not as many as Apple or Android, but most analysts peg Windows Phone 7 to replace it at #3, and the best selling WP7 phone so far, the Nokia Lumia 800, sold about 2 million phones so far. Dunno the number of Bold 9900/9930 devices, but its been a lot more. And most of those Nokia sales are taking away from Symbian, not Android/IOS/RIM.
@downphoenix i agree with you very much. so wp7 is third. nice. i absolutely belive this is right. blackberries sucks so much. iphone and android for life
I hope you guys can get BB10 out quick. I want it to be right too, but it also needs to be available by the early Fall, otherwise Im gonna have to stick with Android.

You already know about the apps and are working on it....make this work Mr.Heins

I'm a big apple supporter, but no way would I like a large competitor like Rim/ blackberry to collapse. It's a Canadian company, which I'd like to see do well. It's funny I have these blackberry and apple debates all the time, myself always being a big advocate of apple. Having competition like blackberry and others alike keeps the industry strong, fluent with ideas. I love apple, I'd hate for them to have a monopoly. Having those tech company's prototyping and pushing the limits defines o
I see BlackBerry as it is a Canadian company that assembles the BlackBerry product in Canada unlike the I phone made and assembled in Asia . We should buy Canadian when ever possible!!
i live in waterloo where rim is located and i have friends who work at rim. They get paid 40+ bucks an hour doing almost nothing. No wonder they are failing
I still believe in this fantastic company. RIM still rocks. A clean balance sheet, no debt, never had an unprofitable quarter, and increased their subscriber base from 50 million to 75 million in the past year, and lots of cash in the bank (look them up - all verified). Don't let the stock price fool you, it's under-valued. Plus look at their website - RIM is hiring! Who hires when they're about to go under? There's a lot of smart people working for RIM and they'll be ok and prosper again.
@scott77rob Companies also hire when their turnover is high. I want RIM to succeed, but it has to admit to having real problems and not try to paint over them with pretty words.
Heins emphasizes communicating with the "consumer". The same consumer he says has played a large role in RIM's growth aside to the "fortress" they want to keep in their corporate enterprise market.
After writing several unanswered and highly constructive emails to RIM over four years, in relation to specific hardware and/or software innovations, it is evident they do not intend on "communicating" with anyone outside of their own ranks and boundaries.
Lol, always think ahead HAHAHAHAHAHAH! Lets quote mike lazaridis ""Offshoot products trying to fill gaps that maybe don't need to be filled. Yes, a tablet is a cool concept, but can you put it in your pocket? And would you carry one around if you couldn't?"
This guy seems to spout the same robot management drivel as all the other pointy haired bosses. I was hoping to hear him say something interesting or significant. Too bad.

I have been loyal to rim since 97! when you cant make the most basic features available (hotspot), its just sad... I'm now going android! This phone can do more then any RIM device ever produced!
So... Mr. Heins: Have you ever been a plane and got so drunk and rowdy that they had to kick you off mid flight? If not, you're the guy for the job. Yawn! I wasn't tired before but now I'm ready for bed.
@frankliu532 Who cares? I'm in UBC right now. Being in university is nothing to brag about. Small sample? Lol! You brag about being a university student and yet you do not seem to grasp how small samples are when scientists do research. In my travels, I would have seen more than 10,000 people. No kidding.. It might be even more since my family went to several festivals and events. BTW, did you notice our comments being removed?
@jokerarayko Brag?- I was simply showing you that I was not a little kid.
Yes researchers take small samples but they try to take samples that are representative of the entire pop.I don't see the point of arguing but i'm just saying you can't say the majority of all girls are not good looking, something like hotness is not really measurable..what you think of as being good looking probably differs from what I think. w/e lets stop wasting each others time and agree to disagree.
@frankliu532 I sure didn't removed mine. BTW, you just confirmed what I was arguing about. "samples that are representative of the entire pop" Isn't that what I have been saying all this time? I had the general population to compare to. I wasn't just in one province, I went all over the country.
xterminator069 ..im not saying USA sucks...each state is unique and its pretty cool, but the fact that there are over 300 million obviously there are going to be more hot girls...but the obesity rate is huge so the ratio of fat girls to hot girls is greater in america.
The name is Reasearch in Motion , not last decades . Get ontop of what Android is doing and what people want in tomorows technology today and then you will get all the little hipster kids running to your phones
you wana know what blackberry needs to do? i hate to say it....but... they need to give up on the "business phone" aspect and focus on more cross compatibility with all these new peices of software.......have you noticed that every time a really cool app comes out its followed by "out now for ios and andriod".....this is whats killing blackberry....as much as the business world may contribute to them being one of the top 3 leaders in phones..its also prevented them from being number 1.just sayin
@MetalHeadBanner thumbs up this so blackberry sees the truth!!!! were tired of iphone envy.....we want to believe in our blackberries but its hard when the next generation applications for phones keeping us excluded!!!!!
Being a Canadian, I hate to see RIM falling so far. I hope you guys can turn things around and bring something new to the table, otherwise you're fighting a losing battle.
I'm sure RIM will survive. In the late 90s, and no one seems to remember, Apple was almost bankrupt. Than, when Steve Jobs return as the interim CEO, he manage to save the company. I don't know if Thorsten Heins is the the new RIM's Steve Jobs, but we should give him a chance to do his job. I still believe in Blackberry.
@TheCaptainHighLiner your comparing blackberry to apple, really? there is nothing innovative about blackberry, blackberry phones are garbage and they will fail
@Sen1Sky I was not comparing Blackberry to Apple. What I said was that in the late 90s, everyone said that Apple was going to fail but it's not what happened. Today, Apple is stronger than ever. The same thing could happen to RIM. But, the fact is we cannot tell the future. So, what we should do is giving the RIM's CEO a chance to make Blackberry phone good again like it used to be.
Looks like a smug idiot. If you're going to continue bringing out plastic crappy key based phones on your 10 year old OS, you may as well close up shop now. You need to start from scratch and stop slapping a new wallpaper on your crappy old operating system and calling it a new version.
I wish RIM well. I hope they succeed. The more companies in the market, the better off the consumers are. More choice, lower prices, faster innovation. Competition is good for us. If RIM went under, it would cost all us consumers. Btw, I own a Samsung Galaxy S2 running Android.
what's with the dislikes? I hope its not the apple fanboy's screwing this up. This guy might sound weird, but just knowing theres a chance the Blackberry might go back to the older innovative ways is rather exciting.. I don't see a reason for this to be disliked
im quite surprised how stupid rim is =( they once owned 30-40precent of the cell phone market "untill apple came" its sad how "never stop innovating" means to him that adding a touch screen and a keyboard "ther we GO GUYS THE NEW BLACKBERRY!" (Y) great innovation. black berry currently owns 6 percent of the market. if they still wanted they could turn this around. realistically speaking you should see there funds they spend more on the leafs then on there own products? FAITH FULL CORPORATION EH?
this guy and others make millions a year and that is why the company is failing...these people at the top work as hard as some people at the bottom but get paid 10,000 times more. and that is why people are complaining about the 99% because it is a real issue.
@xterminator069 hmm ? good health care, strong economy, peaceful, little to no discrimination, pretty girls..hockey...not sure what you are talking about..jealous?
Dump your RIM stock. They won't listen to the best advice given and that's, concentrate on what you have that is unique. Everyone knows BlackBerry. Sell the network, the software, not phones.
$600 for the bold, and it only has a SINGLE CORE 1.2 GHz CPU, 768 mb of RAM, a small touchscreen, and a 5 MP camera!
Compared at the same price, the android super phones all have DUAL CORE 1.5 GHz CPU, ONE GB of RAM, a humongous touchscreen, and a 8 MP camera + front camera.
And BBM is just an instant messaging software really that really does not differ from live messenger, yahoo messenger, etc. Except it la EXCLUSIVE so it attracts foolish airheads to buy bl
Advice #1: RIM must stream line their products and instead of being a Basking Robins (many flavors), focus on only one: The BB Torch or if they must, at most two: Torch and Bold. That's it!
Advice #2: Get into the cell business buy buying a few small cell service providers.
Could this guy look or be more of a nerd... RIM is going so down if they dont get bought out by samsung or someone. Only way I see me buying a blackberry now is if its a galaxy with android software, with bbm, and finally the Blackberry networks.
No, on closer analysis, he seems to be doing things right. He wants the phones more focused on the consumer, and he is going to hire a better marketing team.
When he says he's continuing on the same path, it could mean that he is continuing the development of BB10 and the new phones (e.g. BB London)
They need a guy with Hitler's leadership skills, and Steve Job's intentions. Because face it, hitler would not have gained control of Germany if he didn't have his odd talent to lead. Not trying to start a flame war either.
At this point, RIM needs someone like Steve Jobs to save it in my opinion. Apple was in the same predicament until they brought back Steve Jobs in the late 1990s. If RIM can hire someone that can take the company to new heights instead of playing it safe, RIM's future might not seem so gloomy.

Anyone else feel like curling up in fetal position after listening to new CEO and thinking about the RIM plan to rebuild????
What was that bit about Bavaria and skiing and loving the outdoors? This guy has no time to go skiing or taking long walks in the woods.....

So RIM replaced co-CEOs with a CEO hat won't change anything and will keep the course set by the other CEOs?
Why did you change CEOs if nothing will change?!?

Looks like a smug idiot. If you're going to continue bringing out plastic crappy key based phones on your 10 year old OS, you may as well close up shop now. You need to start from scratch and stop slapping a new wallpaper on your crappy old operating system and calling it a new version.

I wish RIM well. I hope they succeed. The more companies in the market, the better off the consumers are. More choice, lower prices, faster innovation. Competition is good for us. If RIM went under, it would cost all us consumers. Btw, I own a Samsung Galaxy S2 running Android.

im quite surprised how stupid rim is =( they once owned 30-40precent of the cell phone market "untill apple came" its sad how "never stop innovating" means to him that adding a touch screen and a keyboard "ther we GO GUYS THE NEW BLACKBERRY!" (Y) great innovation. black berry currently owns 6 percent of the market. if they still wanted they could turn this around. realistically speaking you should see there funds they spend more on the leafs then on there own products? FAITH FULL CORPORATION EH?

this guy and others make millions a year and that is why the company is failing...these people at the top work as hard as some people at the bottom but get paid 10,000 times more. and that is why people are complaining about the 99% because it is a real issue.

Dump your RIM stock. They won't listen to the best advice given and that's, concentrate on what you have that is unique. Everyone knows BlackBerry. Sell the network, the software, not phones.

Blackberries are honestly crap.

That's it!
Advice #2: Get into the cell business buy buying a few small cell service providers.
caro2219 1 month ago
Could this guy look or be more of a nerd... RIM is going so down if they dont get bought out by samsung or someone. Only way I see me buying a blackberry now is if its a galaxy with android software, with bbm, and finally the Blackberry networks.

No, on closer analysis, he seems to be doing things right. He wants the phones more focused on the consumer, and he is going to hire a better marketing team.
When he says he's continuing on the same path, it could mean that he is continuing the development of BB10 and the new phones (e.g. BB London)
But we'll have to wait and see.
