We have had a pair in our back yard nesting for 9 years now and love to hear them night or day!! They are beautiful creatures and Barred Owls mate for life. I got to experience another call they have just a couple of weeks ago when I was trying to see where one of the two fledglings had gone. The parent made a call at me that sounded like woop....... then woop, woop! Then I saw the baby very near to where I was heading hanging uside down on a branch. It was so cool!! I turned around and left.

Beautiful animal. I saw a Barred Owl this morning while snowshoeing here in Maine.
