  • Thank you Jasper, great work! This ís music, man. Excellent!

  • if u look at the band members faces u recognize the LUV that they had for louis. well its quite natural to love louis armstrong...

  • @drummerboyadd depends on the kind of jazz

  • @Platschheimer

    BOOOOOO! This is classic

  • @Platschheimer jazz is like a fart. Everyone likes his own. ;D

  • Interesting. I have (and love) the movie "Jazz on a Summer's Day". This clip, and another one from this same concert, look to be the same set Armstrong and Company performs in that film.

However the set in the movie has an abbreviated performance of "When the Saints...". In fact, in the film you can sort of hear Armstrong instruct his bandmates that the song will shorten. But this version is the full one.

  • lol if you put the english trnslation at 2:29 we see louis saying :the restorant are listening metal and that somthing

  • wow wow wow

  • MI PIEZA PREFERIDA

  • Wynton Marsalis has done everything Louis has and way more. So stop bitching and asking where real jazz is because it's in your fucking ass hole right now, you just gotta listen.

  • As a Saints fan and a Louie fan, I am very glad to have found this today. Thanks for posting!

  • what year is this from?

  • probably around 1900

  • @Abbss666

    Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 July 6, 1971)

    :D

  • I meant the song, not the recording. As i doublechecked it, the song is from 1896. That's quite old, even for european standards.

  • Ha! That's funny. I understand what you mean now.

Strange though, I wouldn't have thought that a spiritual like Saints would have a definite date. I think it probably dates back further than 1896 and has no confirmed author. Wikipedia claims that When the Saints Go Marching In is often confused with When the Saints ARE Marching in by Purvis and Black which was written in 1896.

  • Oh, I thought you meant this recording. sorry XD

  • hahahah no man, Louis was Born in 1901

  • lol'd

  • late 50's early 60's

  • Wow!!! This really brings back memories!

I was 5, love Louie! My folks took me to see him in Minneapolis, this his band that we saw. My dad put me on his shoulders through 2 shows at the car show in '66, just about killed him, yet he did it! Louie sent out Jewel Brown to find me and my Dad coz he wanted to me us. It was so wonderful for a 5 year old kid to sit on the lap of the Great Louie Armstrong! Brings tears to my eyes every time I here him!

  • Louis has his lips deformed by the trupet! You can see it 2:55. He had to practice a lot! I did not come just so!

  • Thank God we have this old footage! Excellent!

  • i love this song...Louis...we all miss you =)

  • Even Ive seem them in the past, every new moment watching and listening my idols, reminds me too those many street parades and the end of Festivals in stages with all bands playing together and me with the Umbrella in the middle...My God ...Im getting old...God bless you, wherever you are,MAX

  • I love Louis. What a cat!

  • Great !!!!

This broadcast is from may 7th , 1959

The line up of the All Stars in 1961 was a different one.

  • Thanks, for sending me this info. Another Armstrong fan has also already send me an email about that. I don't have an discography from Armstrong. Strange though, because in this series of cips they mention with subtitles 1961!
