Interesting. I have (and love) the movie "Jazz on a Summer's Day". This clip, and another one from this same concert, look to be the same set Armstrong and Company performs in that film.
However the set in the movie has an abbreviated performance of "When the Saints...". In fact, in the film you can sort of hear Armstrong instruct his bandmates that the song will shorten. But this version is the full one.
Wynton Marsalis has done everything Louis has and way more. So stop bitching and asking where real jazz is because it's in your fucking ass hole right now, you just gotta listen.
hey folks, who do you think of when you hear the city New Orleans?that is right Mr. Louis Armstrong, and who when you hear the sound jazz?Mr.Louis Armstrong, and trumpet,do i really have to say it?Mr.Louis Armstrong, yes he has well deserved his honner.
Gran musico, carismatico, agradable, GENIO de la musica, a mi abuelo le encantaba me acuerdo aquellas tardes escuchandolo sus discos, que recuerdos un gran señor,felicidades por tan bellos recuerdos.
Strange though, I wouldn't have thought that a spiritual like Saints would have a definite date. I think it probably dates back further than 1896 and has no confirmed author. Wikipedia claims that When the Saints Go Marching In is often confused with When the Saints ARE Marching in by Purvis and Black which was written in 1896.
I was 5, love Louie! My folks took me to see him in Minneapolis, this his band that we saw. My dad put me on his shoulders through 2 shows at the car show in '66, just about killed him, yet he did it! Louie sent out Jewel Brown to find me and my Dad coz he wanted to me us. It was so wonderful for a 5 year old kid to sit on the lap of the Great Louie Armstrong! Brings tears to my eyes every time I here him!

Thanks, for sending me this info. Another Armstrong fan has also already send me an email about that. I don't have an discography from Armstrong. Strange though, because in this series of cips they mention with subtitles 1961!

I meant the song, not the recording. As i doublechecked it, the song is from 1896. That's quite old, even for european standards.

Ha! That's funny. I understand what you mean now.
