  • WHY DID YOU HAVE TO MAKE A MMO OUT OF IT

I would rather have seen like a lot of co-op dungeons and maybe special online quests. But I don't want the whole game to be online.

  • i didn't understand much of what they were talking about in this video, but the gameplay footage alone looks boring already =(

  • Don't get your hopes up. We all know what happened the last two times a certain other popular RPG series crapped out two MMORPGs...

  • @Majora4Prez this is dragon quest, not final fantasy. I'm sure they'll knock it out of the park with this.

  • Y are slimes always the mascot there so easy to kill

  • Dragon Quest games in which the characters actually had their own personality, were amazing. Especially DQ5. I don't like these "self-made" characters : /

  • I already crave for the music...

  • a Dragon Quest game is a Dragon Quest game. X has the same art style, the enemies that we've come to know, i'm honestly just glad that they didn't scrap this game since it was pretty much hush hush for the past like 4 years. i mean there's no reason to hate on the game for being an MMORPG. especially since the story hasn't even been shown or anything. there's still promise for this game. (and i'm happy that combat looks like its real-time cause it really expands what one can do combat-wise.)

  • Since when did EVERY GREAT SINGLE PLAYER RPG have to go MMO? I miss the classic old story mode with its own preset characters. I miss hearing players dialog. I miss the old dragon quest. Non the less im picking this up LOL

  • @dkmariolink you can play the game offline with all the Npcs and more or less the same story that will be present online to your hearts content i mean there's nothing wrong with Dragon Quest having online i mean its nothing new for the series.

  • OMG I WANT IT!!!!!!

  • FFXIV much? LOL why even try to be as slow as that game? Jesus that's just terrible...

  • man memories. This is what I love about nintendo. You don't need great graphics or anything like that to make a game fun

  • ah nostalgia

  • man I love Dragon Quest

  • @qwertyuiop78945612 except this isn't DQ. now its an MMO scam FF XIV with DQ skin

  • Dragon Quest IX was amazing I hope this is as well.

  • It looks good but the dragon quest series was never meant to be an mmo u did the same thing to final fantasy why not make a proper remake to ff7 the best final fantasy game square enix ur thinking to hard

  • @acebluesman I agree, but it would get old, i mean 10 games of the same thing. I am a hardcore fan but it is nice to see a change.

  • @MrFinalgamer I meant Dragon Quest IX. It looks exactly the same, characters move on the battlefield but it's still turn based

  • @MegaShadowrunner im not sure that it is turn based can any body prove this

  • @MegaLookingatyou

It is real time movement during battle but you cannot attack until the Active Time Bar has reached it's point. (It's an ATB system).

A true classic turn base system cannot work in a an MMO because you will have other online players spectating your battle even if only up to four people can fight alongside you.

True classic turn base stops time and also uses cinematic camera cut ins and different camera view points which also is a mess for programming in an MMO. Real Time.

  • @Devilbat74 but i think turn based would work just like it did in the multiplayer on DQix and its dragon quest its known and loved for its turn based battle system - they may have just completely fucked up my most loved rpg and i don't feel to happy right now - but when i get it i hope i will love it

  • @MegaLookingatyou It can't. Due to other online players spectating your battle (hence the ghost characters watching). For that reason it can't work like the MP in DQ IX. As soon as they made it an MMO, that killed any chance for traditional turn base. Now it will look like FF XIV just with a DQ skin

  • @Devilbat74 STOP BRINGING ME DOWN MAN!! or woman? i dont want to hear anything about it til is released now

  • OMFG OMFG MY FAVOURITE GAME SERIES EVER!!! WAS A BIT SKEPTICAL OF THE WII U BUT THIS TIPPED IT....IM GETTING IT OMFG!!! DRAGON QUEST RETURNS !!! ONLINE!!!!!! OMFGGGGGG

  • I hope a soundtrack gets released! :D

  • I've been playing Dragon Quest since the very first. This looks boring, even by Dragon Quest standards.

  • @bushidogamer lol you can tell the menus aren't done yet. It would be pretty pathetic if the final game looked like that.

  • @larsattack The menus have always looked like that in the series, along with the "beep" sounds and the absence of a victory music LOL

  • @larsattack I should have been more specific. I meant the battle menu mostly. They are usually more vibrant with color.

  • @bushidogamer It's not how it looks, but how it will play, still I hope this is for rent

  • it's gonna be on wii and wii u. if there's a monthly fee to play, then i think i'll pass.

  • this will be an abomination to the DQ series and here's why

    it's

    n MMO

    pay to play

    MUST have online to finish

level 5 is not developing it

  • People hating on the combat- THAT IS THE SAME COMBAT FROM IX. ARE YOU FUCKING BLIND? Oh, yes you are, I forgot- blind with irrational hate for Square. Well, more for me.

  • @MegaShadowrunner i think you meant XI since IX uses the ATB battle system (active time battle) and this game uses an MMO style of gameplay similar to those like final fantasy XI, XII, XIV, and white knight chronicles 1 and 2 which all play like MMO's and pretty much are (except for FFXII) and this game plays just like them

  • @MegaShadowrunner No it's not. its ATB (active time base) with free roam in battle. And other online players can view your battle (hence them standing there cheering in ghost form). I never seen a DQ with texture clipping and collision detection problems (all common with MMOs) until now

DQ IX was turn based meaning, when it's my turn to choose an attack, I can go make a sammich or go to the bathroom for all I care and the enemy wont attack until I make my move. Impossible to do in an MMO

    god

  • Look at all the tossers decrying this game because of something we know next to nothing about... God, people make me sick sometimes. Thisll probably be a great game regardless. Definitely interested. And for the record- I like Square's games, FF14 is the only RPG by them that I think was bad. This isn't FF14. Get over yourselves.

  • Jrpgs... Nothing has changed for the last twenty years except the heros are more androgynous...

  • @portablegamer

    It's not, it's still turn-based smart one.

  • They might or might not make this pay to play in NA because they are still tryign to increase the base in the US. They will definitely make it pay 2 play in Japan though. If they are releasing it as pay to play it should atleast have a lower fee than most games of this type.

  • @MrLacksoriginality Totaly agry, Nintendo do a lot to make the people play DQIX, just imagine wath they gona make to sale this in america, but hey, remember the first trailer of DQIX? maybe (and with the dragon god) they will reconsidere and make this game a real Dragon quest.

  • @TheSiviney This game has been in development for 6 years, i really doubt they will reconsider.

  • @MrLacksoriginality ... fuck... still i hope that the fee for online play does not exist, at least in america.

  • @TheSiviney You have to remember the online is completely optional. If you play it offline, it would be like Dragon Quest IX but with different camera angles.

  • @MrLacksoriginality since online isn't mandatory in this game it will most likely be Free to Play like most mmorpgs exclusive to consoles. i mean if this was going to be released on PC, Wii U and Wii then there would be a higher chance of it being pay to play.

  • If there is a fee for North America the game will be DEAD! If they make free online play like Monster Hunter this game may catch on. Even as a huge Dragon Quest/Warrior fan, I don't think I'd pay per play for a game like this.

  • Why the FUCK wouldn't they put this on the Xbox or Ps3?!

    DQ8 was amazing on Ps2

These graphics are hardly better than DQ8 haha

  • @magnusegill how about because it started on NES and its on wii u which has 1080p graphics :P

  • @magnusegill

This is the Wii version, not the Wii-U.

  • @magnusegill because the wii is the highest sold console in japan just like the ds and the ps2 and thats all that maters wen making a DQgame because they have to make it so almost everyone in japan can play it (they love it to much) , plus its on the wii so the graphics are the same as the ps2, but is there anything wrong with that

  • @MegaLookingatyou DQ is a system seller so if they released it on PS3 people would buy a PS3 for it. Nobody has a Wii U yet, so they announced it for Wii U anyway. People will buy a Wii U now to experience the best graphical look for the game. Meanwhile PS3s sales are rising and the Wii is on its way out and is not exactly the best system to create an MMO for.

Anyways the general reaction is not so good nobody was asking for an MMO dunno why they would even try this with the "success" of FF XIV

  • Why the FUCK wouldn't they put this on the Xbox or Ps3?!

    DQ8 was amazing on Ps2

  • At least Dragon Quest isn't going downhill like Final Fantasy

  • @portablegamer An MMO is just an online game, they don't have any specific gameplay styles. I once played a vertical shooter MMO (forgot what it was called).

They said this game still uses Turn Based Battles.

  • Why in the name of hell would they make this pay to play??????????? Just keep it classic, geez.

  • First they make an MMO out of final fantasy...

Now Dragon QUEST?!?!?! OMFG I HATE YOU SQUARE ENIX!!!!!!

I dont want to pay montly fees, i just want to play some Classic Rpg Bliss!!

  • @mirrorpiece look up ni no kuni

  • @TheyCallMeWendy I know right? That looks great.

But this was just a horrible decision.. however.. rumor has it they're working on a NES version of Dragon Quest X. I DO look forward too that if its true.

  • Comment removed

  • omfg i have a boner!!

  • Ni no kuni looks more DQ than this...

  • No offense, but after having played Xenoblade for three weeks now, the combat system here looks...kinda weak.

But who knows, it might be all high-tech and super exciting and stuff. I wouldn't know. I don't know Japanese. xD

  • LOL AT THE WII U

  • @zawette

This isn't the Wii-U version, it's the Wii version.

  • worst combat system ever made, bye

  • Take out the fees for America! Some of you may not know this, but even the single player requires an internet connection and you to pay subscription fees. Well, Dragon Quest is very popular in Japan and not really so much here. So I think we may get lucky and have it free like Monster Hunter Tri.

  • @Deauxnim Exactly what I was thinking, hopefully it will be like MH3.

  • it's not even surprising that's it's on a Nintendo system. Every Dragon Quest game has been except for 7 and 8. The reason 7 was on PS1 is probably because of the limited space on an N64 cartridge. 8 was probably the same deal but probably also due to the fact that the Gamecube wasn't selling well. Apart from those two, I can't recall any other DQ game that wasn't on a Nintendo system.

  • @TheTKCreborn Dragon warrior on NES/Gameboy are Dragon quest games :3

  • @yoshishot16 NES and Game Boy are Nintendo systems :3

  • @TheTKCreborn Well besides the spin-offs... nope

  • lmao this looks horrible. console mmorpg lol.

  • Good god another Square Enix made mmo, yeah remember their last mmo ? Btw Square Enix stocks dropped 11% now we know why.

  • @WARP10CK Well, suprisingly enough this actually does look intresting, on the battle system's side which I've been waiting for like... EVER!

If they don't fuck it up, I'm certain to get this game no matter what. Squeenix;es worst mistake was to make MMO Final Fantasies a WoW clone.

  • @Bastiest Yeah I mean we know that they are able to create great enviroments it's the gameplay I am worried about. And I am surprised that the developers have not yet learned that making a shitty game calling it an mmo does not mean that money will start pouring in.

  • o god not another mmo this is gonna be shit

  • Subscription fee confirmed too! Fuck Dragon Quest. Guess DQ8 was just a once in a blue moon kind of game for the series. I was expecting something better after it.

  • What happened to the colorful stories, the beautiful orchestrated music, and the imaginative worlds? We didn't get much of it in the last iteration thanks to the DS hardware, this doesn't look to be expanding on what DQ8 was either. DQX looks incredibly bland on more powerful hardware and it's pitiful that Square is producing yet another mmo with a big franchise that's not even related with them after the colossal failure that was FF14.

  • @SketchyGamerMan

god y ccant distinguish a online RPG and a MMO? is it that hard to do research on a game before making these kinds of judgement? this can be played online and offline as theres a singleplayer mode, if u want a example think monster hunter

  • @lylatfox4 you have to be online to play offline and there is subscription fees

  • @SketchyGamerMan

This is the Wii version, and devs never try to make a game look good on the Wii, even though it can run circles around and around the PS2 in terms of graphics and power.

  • i cant wait to play this game =(

  • Fail ....hard

  • Dragon Quest 8 is my fav RPG... DQ is dead to me folks

  • Comment removed

  • Dragon Quest X will be the spiritual successor of True Fantasy Live Online... :))

  • I see first monster hunter 4, now dragon quest x why are so many games being developed now

  • Comment removed

  • So DQ9 multiplayer type gameplay with much more added?

  • @#$%! I swore I was not going to buy a Wii-U...damn Square Enix! It looks good ;-(

  • I think I'm gonna stick with the Wii version. To this day I regret buying Zelda: Twilight Princess on the Wii. I prefer to play it on the system it was originally made for.

  • @Romusk86 Thinking the same thing =D

  • The online/MMO aspect has me very excited! It was what I had hoped for in DQIX but didn't quite get.

  • @Bjc2282 is this pay to play???????????????

  • @Devilbat74 Unknown as of yet. I am about 99% sure the answer is no. The only game on the Wii that had pay to play online (that I know of) was the Japanese version of Monster Hunter Tri.

  • Anybody know if there are big differences between the Wii and WiiU version?

  • @Bjc2282

well square confirmed it will be graphically superior on the wiiU version and hopefully it isnt the BS make it HD and call it a day treatment but i'd assume the online structuer would be different and possibly better on wiiU aswell as a different layout

  • OMG

  • DQ IX is my favourite JRPG of this generation. This looks even better! I can't wait. I hope this and Tales of Xilia get localized. I also want to play The Last Story, Pandora's Tower and Xenoblade. So many great JRPGs, but many of them never make it to US/Canada.

  • I love you Japan...your Sony & Nintendo gives me so much joy.

  • I hope this game is like Zelda Wind Waker where when people look at the trailer they thought the game would suck but then when they played it they really liked it. I'll wait to form my opinion till I see more of the game like the spells / abilities, how the class system works, side quests, and the plot

  • Im more than sure that there'll be a LOAD of content but my biggest concern is that the game doesn't look polished at all and seems rough. Bit disappointed since this game was in development since 2008 :| with already noticeable glitches. Let's hope they cover the game with another coat of shine before the ultimate 2012 release, can't wait either way though :)

  • About freaking type there's an RPG for the Wii that gets released in America...

  • why are there 23 dislikes... oh wait its on a nintendo system. if drones hate, may as well be on the best (nintendo)

  • @gamereviewsss yes, that is why their sales are going down the drain because people are tired of the gimmicks. Keep having shit taste though.

  • @gamereviewsss I think the dislikes are more because of the fact that it's an MMO.

  • @SergeantLuke could be true... lol

  • @gamereviewsss we mightve missed Xeno but i gotta ask man… are u excited for DQX the mmo?

  • @CatcherP57 definitely. especially that it has the single palyer and multiplayer

  • @gamereviewsss ign says graphically it will be superior on the wii u but idk it might be a wii exclusive

  • @gamereviewsss ah, and Monster Hunters 3G is coming to the 3DS so it looks like Nintendo is going to be the place to play japenese games

  • Lol at the blind hate for this game

  • and somebody said this was going to "destroy" ff type-0? LOLZ

  • Didn't square learn from ff 14?

  • @fly666monkey they should have learned from 11 actually >_> hopefully this game will be for the ps3 or ps4 and have an actual good storyline and characters (god the story of IX was horrible until the last part were it became good but at that point i already gave up in the game...i guess it was bad to start playing the dragon quest games on IX)

  • @MrFinalgamer They tend to launch DQ games on the best selling console or something like that, if anything a remake would be done on a future Sony console

  • @fly666monkey Enix is yet to leard =D

  • LOL @ losing to golem because he said he forgot to change the weapon.

LOL somemore for the guy saying sorry we lost and the guy on the left saying, um... this is a new release press conference...

  • Looks like a corean MMORPG from 7 years ago.

  • Game looks nice, but... a mmorpg?

    Son, I am disappoint.

  • R.I.P. Dragon Quest

  • Who ever said the graphics are bad for WII game must be blind

  • @sion41391 It's two camps of thought really, it a question if it is visually expressive (ie: Art and Character design, etc.) compared to technically impressive (ie: Rendering power, GFLOPS etc.) . As a gamer of considerable age, I would rather have the former than the latter if I am forced to make the choice. Now that is not to go and say that you can't have both... you can but I tend to remember the former more often than not. And that is the point, those games tend to last in the memory more.

  • Game looks good. Like a nice mix of DQ8 and 9.I don't mind playing online actually, but if they have an offline story mode then that's cool

  • Glad to see they kept the DQVIII engine. I can only hope for great things with this title!

  • SE, suck my balls. What is this shit?

  • Square won't screwup Dragon Quest like they did FFXIV.

I will buy this for Wii AND Wii U!

  • @tichassbitty I don't think you will have to do so. If you start playing the Wii version, you will be able to "upgrade" to the U version without losing anything. That's what I heard so far.

  • Boy i cant wait for FFXIV second wave!

  • NEED JAPANESE TO ENGLISH TRANSLATION!

Seriously, is there anyone out there who can fansub this? Even a rough idea of what he's talking about would be useful. The only bit I understood was "online game"!

Also, WHAT NO SLIMES? I want to see what the new slimes look like :D

  • Sorta want.

  • Thank you for posting this!!!

  • Thumbs up if you're getting this on Wii U!!!

  • @TheVideoGameMan123 I might get both depending on how different they are from each other!

  • Why does this video have dislikes? Fanboys mad it's a nintendo exclusive?

  • @jiffyk7 I think they are mad because it's an online game plus there will be a subscription fee.

  • @NocturnalSorrow people have been asking for better online and when a wii game comes showing that people complain. And what i heard is only subscription in japan

  • @jiffyk7 True but some may be getting tired of the whole MMORPG thing, I'm sure it will be free-to-play here which most mmorpgs are doing. I'm a fan of the DQ games and I will most likely get this for the Wii U. DLC would be interesting on the Wii.

  • I Love the music Go Koichi Sugiyama

  • Is it just me or does the PS2 game look better than this?

Certainly the shadows on the PS2 game are better, because they're not stupid circles.

  • @impurekind

i imagine this is just the very early version for the game.

also the wii u version will look MUCH better

  • Seems like they've gone and ruined the series. Totally different feel to it and no turn-based battle system, instead they have you running around trying to avoid attacks. I wouldn't have a problem with this if they just made it look more fun and fluid.

  • @robbyam It's still turn-based...

  • @kajskin Except they have you running around avoiding attacks like FFXII but still have battle transitions. Besides, they can't even make it seem fun and fluid. Looks way too tanky.

  • Huh, looks like Kirby and Zelda won't be the last great Wii games after all, but I might just get this for Wii U instead since Square said that they will improve more on that version. Also loving the battle music. :D

  • pokemon mmo!!!!! but yeah, i think i will pick this up for the WiiU

  • @sintonado why not wii

  • @GamesTrailerzers It's coming out for wii and wii U

  • Online?! I can't wait to play with my friends and actually have a character that looks like me in a console Dragon Quest!

  • day one pirate

  • I'm picking this up for Wii U! :D

  • Um, no first person battle whatsoever? Online gaming elements? I know DQX will be great, but it does seem that the series is loosing touch with its roots a bit. At least fix the battle system though!!

  • @violaguy22

    Remember DQ8?

  • @lordrath2000 How could I forget it. One of my first DQs. I know VIII had 3rd person battles (along with IX), but they still had a throwback to the NES days with a first person screen when you input commands. This game looks to be more like FFXII than DQVIII or IX.

  • @violaguy22

It's probably because this is an online game, they had to take some more liberties with the series

  • In the description... it's not an MMO ;).

I'm looking forward to this game!

  • @TheLegendaryFusion it is an MMO moron just because you can play it offline doesn't mean it isn't just like another RPG which was...PHANTASY STAR you could play it offline but essentially it was an MMO

  • @MrFinalgamer U mad bro?

  • @TheLegendaryFusion it's spelled are you made bro? or brother? or whatever you want to use and i was pointing out you were wrong about you saying that the game isn't an MMO =)

  • SE is really determined to keep that MMO subscription income flowing in. Unfortunately they made a big mess of FFXIV and are now scrambling to fix the game. Hopefully SE won't repeat the same mistakes with Dragon Quest X. I'm not sure how they plan on releasing updates for this game on a system that lacks a hard drive.

  • @i90east They mentioned something about using USB storage so that you can download all the DLCs and patches.

  • @i90east It was announced that the Wii version comes with a USB drive, and all updates and downloads will go there. The Wii U version will have the updates download onto the system itself.

  • @i90east they have stated the game can be played offline and npc's will fill your party. you never need to play it online.

  • @Gimorath

andriasang just confirmed that the game will require you to play online. You can still play by yourself, but you HAVE to be online to play the game. You can play the game offline for the first few hours, but that's it.

  • @lordrath2000 Is there a link to that?

  • @Gimorath

    andriasang (dot) com/e/blog/2011/09/06/dqx_offline_play/

  • @i90east

The Wii version will come with a free USB flash drive, which I'm guessing will be just for the updates. No worries on the Wii U version though.
