Our basset lived for 11 years in our house and with regular vet checkups was PERFECTLY healthy. Passed away of cancer.

Hounds can be comical! My Beagle-Basset LUCY was the best. Her sidekick ETHEL (full Beagle) came in a close second. They've both passed (exactly 2 months to the day apart). Now I have MILLIE (another full Beagle...who really needs some encouragement to be a clown) and MAXINE (an English Pointer) who both LOVE broccoli stalks. When I'm chopping broccoli, Millie will take her's off to gnaw on. Maxine will take her's, throw it in the air and pounce on it a couple of times before devouring it!

My basset (Sherlock) does this with his dog food. He tosses it around and growls at it before he eats it. It's like he has to play first.

The thing about a Basset is it's scent. I for one can't stand the smell of a hard boiled egg, or even them boiling. So if that scent offends his nose, which it looks like it does, I would keep that away. It's like his nose and stomach are in a fight, because those damn dogs will eat anything, even if it offends their taste buds. If a food is very aromatic, but doesn't agree with them, I would keep it away. If he really wanted to eat it, it would have been gone in second 2 of the video.

..Bassets are the best & so comical ,we have had 2 .The 2nd one was 14 ,but we had to put her to sleep in April and I will never stop missing her(miss them both)...I'm curious if the egg was hot, as Heidi would do similar things with hot food. Especially when she was a pup...There was never a day with either Basset that I didnt laugh about something they did..Sometimes I still swear I hear her bellowing outside :(
