As a 20-ish yearl old American, I was born too late to have seen them air this on non-subscription TV (regular TV). But after watching some episodes on YouTube, it has EASILY become one of my favorite TV shows of all time. And this theme... there is absolutely nothing like it on the air now..... except for maybe the slightly updated/slightly butchered. Hawaii 5-0 theme (2010).
MANY thanks for posting this, Paul! I've never heard of the Marketts either, before now. Though this isn't the version used on the TV show, it's a DYNAMITE rendition of one of my all time favorite TV theme songs...I fondly recall watching the show as a kid in the 60's...even then I knew Diana Rigg was one of the hottest babes on TV..and an intelligent actress to boot! :)
Nice to see comment and appreciation for one aspect of the favorite tv show of my youth and all time. Also just caught the rendition of the theme song here on Youtube that hilariously features background video of belly dancers. It's outrageous!
@Pauluk33 Hi, I just found this page. Didn't know this song was on here. Only took me two years to find it. Do you still run a radio show? I would love for you to run something like this on YouTube with all the great songs the Routers and The Marketts recorded. Thanks for posting. I posted about a dozen of their songs.
The Marketts were a bunch of studio musicians who recorded the music and later a band was formed to tour-not unlike the Monkees. Depending on who showed up for the date it was probably Tommy Tedesco on guitar, Hal Blaine or Earl Palmer on drums, Carol Kaye or Joe Osborn on bass and a bunch of other regulars. The amount of stuff they recorded and never got credit for is mind-boggling (most offensive example: Pet Sounds) Type "wrecking crew" into the search bar to see what I mean.
nice version

They really knew how to compose amazing themes in the sixties, out of sight. This version is superb.

@jenks1937 I'll say... That was when musical themes for tv shows really were in their own... Not like some in the here and now...

The Marketts were the band that ecorded the surf instrumental classic "Out of Limits".
They also recorded a version of the "Batman" theme song for Warner Bros. Records.
Most of their albums are now avaliable on CD from Sundazed Records.
