  • He was a quiet president.. a low profile kind of guy.

  • The top comments on here let me know I'm not alone. Great men, these.

  • Coolidge & Reagan are the only presidents since 1865 who understood the constitution, limited government & family values

  • Calvin Coolidge was one of the best presidents, an example of a true american. During his presidency the USA was the best it had been in years. Modern day politicians should follow his example.

  • Like the second Bush presidency, Coolidge's laissez-faire policy eventually caught up to him and us. While things are going ok you can turn a blind eye to business and ignore social responsibility, but whether it be the great depression or the collapse in 2008 it comes home to hit you. Even a measure of effective oversight in the financial system would have protected us from the abuses of the banking and financial industry. To call Coolidge a great president for doing nothing is ridiculous.

  • @Bleedingheart911 You are an ignorant revisionist. Second Bush president, laissez-faire? You are an ignorant fool. Government has never been larger, more intrusive and more regulatory then it was under George W Bush and now even more under Obama. Under Bush federal regulations grew at a faster rate than any president since FDR you fool.

  • Yes Democrats. Conservatives were pro-civil rights like Coolidge and Harding!

  • Coolidge was the last American president to represent the principles in which this Union was founded.

  • One of the greatest things about Coolidge was that he fully understood the Constitution, especially the 9th and 10th Amendments, he was a progressive governor of MA. But he was possibly the most conservative presidents in American history.

  • Coolidge is possibly the best president ever! Woodrow Wilson is definitely the worst!!

  • Seeing the jovial conversation between President & Chief Justice Taft and Mrs. Coolidge at 1:43 really warmed my heart! Long live the legacies of Taft and Coolidge!

  • 02:11 - He kisses something. What is it? I've seen other footage of inaugurated presidents doing the same thing, the last being Truman. Coolidge is suspected to have been a freemason; Truman was certainly an active one. I suspect this has something to do with that, though I don't know.

  • @generalbullmoose I suspect it was a Bible. Truman, as I recall, kissed a Bible immediately after being sworn in in 1945.

  • it appears that instead if repeating the oath word for word, Taft gave the oath in question form and Coolidge responded with "I do," or "I will" or something like that...then again the picture is not very clear so it's hard to tell for certain...but knowing how "Silent Cal" was, it wouldn't surprise me if he just responded with "Yeah."....I thin the word-for-word repetition should be the required form, as IMO, you actually said the words, binding you even further to your heavy obligation

  • @abelincoln1809 haha, that might well be true, but as Cicero famously said, "brevity is a great charm of eloquence", and I believe nobody was more eloquent than Coolidge. In this case, word-for-word repetition of the oath of office was clearly unimportant, as nobody since has honored their promise to faithfully execute his duties as President and "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States" more than Calvin Coolidge.

  • Also another 1st, 1 former President (Taft) swearing in another. Taft would again administer the oath to Hoover and that will probably the last ever time, we will see 1 President swearing in another

  • @brianclough It depends upon the circumstances. William Howard Taft, the last Unitarian president, never wanted to be president. He even elevated Edward White to be chief justice by calculating how long White would live so he'd get the seat after White's death. His calculation was correct. Taft was foremost a judge, a position he loved.

  • HAIL HIS MEMORY!

    WE NEED HIM NOW!

  • This is the best Presidential speech I never heard!

  • thanks for posting this!

  • Valuable image thanks

  • 4:12 HECK YES ITS THE NAVY

  • It was the easy credit of the Federal Reserve that, in part, created the bubble that burst in 1929. It was Hoover's and Roosevelt's meddling in the economy that made it last so long.

  • The Harding-Coolidge years are some of the best ever? Are you forgetting about the great depression that followed immediately after? It was the policies of Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover that allowed for the greatest economic collapse in our country's history. The lassiez-faire policies were our countries downfall in 1929, and those preisdents (as well as treasurey sec. Andrew Mellon) are responsible for allowing the unregulated and uncontrolled economy to get the better of our country.

  • this is the man Reagan admired the most. We need another guy like this.

  • The Harding-Coolidge years (1921-1929) were among the best this nation has ever known; what a relief they must have been after eight years of the appalling and dangerous Woodrow Wilson!

  • I just got this name from reading a book named A Day No Pigs Would Die

  • although the republican government's policies of that time meant that big businesses could do what they wanted because of the lassiez faire approach, which lead to the depression

  • Teflon Calvin. Go figure.

  • Awesome President. He cut taxes from 77% to 25%. He cut spending by 50%. And lowered unemployment from 11.8% to 1.8%.Quite easily the greatest President of his time. He wan't nearly as corrupt as Harding. Such a quiet man.

  • During his administration, the people ruled their own lives! Coolidge did little and said even less, and the country thrived! A temporary big drop in business, Big Government of Hoover/Roosevelt took over, then a 15 year depression?

  • best president ever

  • It no mystery the the idiot box has never explained or told truth of the Coolidge years.

    Why should they they won.

  • William Howard Taft giving the oath of office.

  • The filthy enemy aliens engineered the murder of Garfield and many others including Huey P. Long.

Murdering in Russia and murdering here.

Harding and Coolidge Repudiated the Wilson Cabal which had it the Raising grease star FDR in it, and dam lucky he did not go to prison!

The military at this time in US history were well aware of the vermin in NYC and the new USSR, and they seriously wanted to protect Coolidge during this celibration and did so.

    Hail Coolidge !

  • It was an honor/badge of courage to have a thumbs down.

    My point.

  • Calvin Coolidge had the highest respect for the office of the presidency.

  • He hardly spoke though.

  • Calvin Coolidge is definitely one of our most underrated presidents. He cut taxes, reduced the national debt, worked to protect American interests abroad, and made Native Americans full citizens. Furthermore, he restored honor to the presidency after the scandals of the Harding administration. We need more presidential candidates like this today.

  • It is with out doubt that if Harding had not died in office the Very decent and best president we have since 1900 would never have been allowed in by the Bankstinkers gangsters.

A grand and decent leader, hail his memory and honest duty!

  • I agree with you wholeheartedly! America needs to return to the Constitution as the Founding Fathers intended it. Coolidge was one of the few presidents who truly understood the Constitution and what his duty was as chief executive of the United States. He didn't seek his own personal power while in office; rather, he believed it a solemn honor and privilege to serve the American people. His humility is clearly seen in his refusal to run for reelection.

  • Imagine back in 1923, Calvin Coolidge had to get up at 2:47 a.m. just to be sworn in as President.

  • @heb1114 yes your right Calvin Coolidge was one of the best presidents in history the best presidents in american history are Washington,Adams,Jefferson,Madison,Monroe,Lincoln,Coolidge & Reagan

  • Coolidge was one of the greatest Presidents ever, and definitely the best from 1900 until now. He understood Liberty, low taxes, family and capitalism. He was the last of the Jeffersonian Presidents. My Favorites in no order would be Jefferson, Madison, Washington, Coolidge, Polk and perhaps Jackson. Not so much for what they did in office, but because of their ideologies. Today we have Media-CIA picked Socialist Presidents.

  • @ericso333 I have to disagree with your choice of Jefferson. The slave-owning hypocrite who prattled about liberty, and who vascillated on whether to complete the Louisiana Purchase. Madison was a dandy who managed to get the White House burned during the War of 1812. Polk was an arrogant sort who started a war with Mexico, and who, in his will, wanted his property kept in his family forever, despite the fact that he and his wife had no children.

  • @mindspring57

Gee how long have you been a communist, 57, since birth or since your college re-education liberals arts degree days. We sir, have learned from history and will fight this vermin left wing commie socialst marxist statists til the end. We do remember how to do it, at the voting booth. Remember November '10, you will-ass kickin' comin'.

  • @ericso333 I fully agree. The thing is FDR accomplished his goal of tripling the size of the federal government and destroying the Constitution and limited govt. Reagan tried his best, but in an era of big govt there isnt much that could be done with Democrats controlling Congress.

  • Yes, Calvin was tops with Washinton and Jackson, and I really like the way some of the posters here think!

    Salute!

  • MY TOP 10 BEST PRESIDENTS ARE:

    1. George Washington

    2. Thomas Jefferson

    3. Andrew Jackson

    4. Calvin Coolidge

    5. McKinnely would have be wonderful, but IMO the marxist who rule now had him bumped off, believe it.

    6. JFK, because he did not let go of what was important with our money and the mid East, and knew the lie of WW 1 and 2 and so a 23 year old honorably discharged Marine becomes the patsy.

    7. Andrew Johnson, because he tried to controll the banker lust.

    Jefferson Davis

  • To think the Coolidges suffered the death of their son Calvin, Jr. in 1924 and still carried on. Courage.

  • Calvin Coolidge is my favorite president =)

  • many of these presidents are polar opposites, especially your first two.

  • @dbmcmillan Many had differing philosophies, but they all shared a respect for the U.S. Constitution, the American people, freedom, and oppostion to central banking and Zionsim.

  • Where in the US Constitution does a racist ideology like Zionism play a part?

  • George Washington and Calvin Coolidge were the two best Presidents this country ever had, IMO. Grover Cleveland was very good, and I also have a liking for J.Q. Adams, Martin Van Buren, John Tyler, Ulysses Grant, Hayes, Arthur, T. Roosevelt, Harding, and Eisenhower. They presided over peace and prosperity, and had respect for the Constitution. Most of the others were tyrants or ignoramuses. .

  • Most of these were good presidents, IMO; GW Bush, Pierce, Nixon, and Buchanan were not, and are at the bottom of my list. Hoover was a great man who caused more trouble than help; Johnson was a bull-headed racist. You really should re-examine Tyler, Grant and especially Harding. Who are your favorites?

  • As for Harding, he hiimself said "I am not fit for this office and should never have been here". Sadly, he was right. He was an inept leader.

  • Coolidge was the best president of all time in my opinion.

  • That video ranks as one of the 2 most unique videos of all time. The other one would be in 1929 when Justice William Taft ( a former U.S. Pesident himself) administers the oath of office to Herbert Hoover.

  • Taft administered the Oath in this one as well.

  • Coolidge made some DeForest Phonofilms. Do you have access to those? I had an idea that his inauguration speech was amongst them. No, the Jazz Singer (1927) was NOT the first Talkie by a long chalk.

  • I cant hear College take the oath of office

would you find any oath of office taken before FDR with audio

  • I love this music, and President Coolidge himself. After reading a long book over his life, he's my second favorite President of the 20th century behind TR.

  • And Malinth66, your right about President Herbert Hoover causing the Depression because in his 4 years as President he made the economy and unemployment badder and badder and i remember that someone tried to assassinate him once.

  • Coolidge was smart not to run for reelection in 1928 since the stock market crashed a year later in 1929.

  • Silent Cal was a nice guy. Quiet, but a good guy. I personally think he is one of the best Presidents. But Hoover, I blame him for the Deppresion!!!

  • Couldn't agree more. I'd also add that I blame Roosevelt for prolonging it though.

A portrait of President Coolidge hangs at the most prominent position in my apartment.

  • haha no

  • great to see Coolidge!

  • Back when America truely was a great nation, not run by a neo-Marxist

  • Minimal government, a healthy market, middle class living in luxury, no overseas bloodbaths, tax cuts etc, a president who was liked by a large majority of the people. God Bless Calvin Coolidge! As ive studied and read about past presidents, my favorites all came in that time. Harding, Coolidge and Hoover were damn fine presidents despite what most say!

  • I'm with you on Cal, and Hoover was a brilliant man who came into office at a bad time (and FDR ripped off a lot of his ideas) , but Harding? Nah.

  • Amen to that...

To bad the Federal Reserve caused the Great Depression - fuck the fed, fuck wilson

  • Thanks for helping spread the truth!

  • lol Chief Justice Taft has a funny looking hat on!

  • God Bless Cal! Cal, Reagan, and Goldwater are my personal heros.

  • It´s amazing what you have in your collection!

  • wow those where the dayz!

  • Silent Cal great president :)

  • Hey, this is personal- my wife's grandfather played trumpet in the band at the scene of the Coolidge inauguration.

What would a speech by Coolidge be like at such an occasion? "Thank you."
