I'm not too sure about USC's QBS. Most of them that drafted into the NFL(1st RD) are bust or end up as back up. Matt Linear( got beated for his job by Kurt Warner and then by a free agent QB which i dont even know his name LOL then finally was let go), Mark Sanchez (still a starter but he's a AVG QB at best), Carson Palmer(Had one good year 2006 and down hill from there). however, i'll take him in 2nd round since there is high reward vs low risk.
You can't expect all these QB entering the league to to be the next Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. Statistically it's not possible. And why so critical of USC's QBs? Name one other school that has had FOUR QB starters at any point this season. You completely downplay the reality, the NFL is a tough business; the chances for success are stacked against you, no matter what round pick you are or what college you played for. If you're a starter, that's an accomplishment on its own.
@CaliforniasGold First i don't expect any QB to be the next tom Brady nor peyton manning and chances are they wont be for a very long time. 2. I'm not critical about USC's QBs i just think Barkley is over-hyped by the Media and overrated compare to other QBs that will enter the draft this upcoming year. 3. three out of the four QBs that started games this year were not starters at the beginning of this season. Carson Palmer career was pretty much over before Terrelle Pryor got hurted and forced
@CaliforniasGold the Raiders to made on of the worse trade ever. Then Matt Lineart same story goes for him, Matt Schaub got hurt. You make it sound like if you are a starter in the NFL then you must be good then ask the Colt when they brought some 40 years old guy as their starter at the beginning of the season of how that working out for them. All I'm saying is the USC QBs have been all overrated not just Barkley. He is a outstanding QB. There are certain schools/conferences that produced
@CaliforniasGold certain position. Like if im looking for a defensive players, chances are i will look into the SEC. The SEC has a track record of producing top defensive guys. They are stacked with top defensive players. Not so much in QB. Your not going to get a another Peyton Manning out of the SEC for a very long time. See my point, and the track record for USC of QBs isnt looking great so far. So I will take a grain of salt with whatever the media say about any USC QBs. Not BC i hate USC.
I see where you come from, but have you evaluated *other* schools' production of QBs in sending them to the NFL? The problem is it's hard to find others who've sent as many QBs into the NFL as USC has in the last decade, so when they don't perform it's easy to assume they're all overrated. I think it's an unfair assessment because you ignore the other schools who don't send in any QBs, which is worse. If you looked at another team, you'd find fault if you look deep enough.
Matt Barkley is GONE at the end of the year. There is no reason for him to stay. He can't win a national title. Only reason he stays is if he has not had enough of banging new college chicks on a daily basis.
@oopopp he can win heisman, set all usc records, and win national title. we only lose 2 starters this year, our 2 DT's. And this year we had 8 starting freshman on our team this year, including all 3 linebackers. So next year we will be insanely good, give me a reason why usc couldn't win a national title?
@sk8terdrew246 A lot of 'what ifs' need to happen with those freshmans. And you put too little in the loses of Khaled Holmes and Matt Kalil. Those 2 are the BEST in the country at what they do. Matty is NOT gonna have the pass protection (time) to do things like he is now, he's gonna get rushed TONS! And SACKED tons. Matty's not gonna want to get injured in college, I don't care what the insurance gives.
this kid will be a member of the redskins next year because luck will go to the colts and it sucks cause they go from one franchise qb to another and we have been lookin for 15 years if he aint then we will have manning cause landry jones aint gonna come out this year
He looks good, but lacks ideal height, he'll need to improve a bit with his deep throws and release but I still see him in the top 10 based on accuracy, potential and smarts.
Overall accuracy is good. He can consistently make short and intermediate throws. And he can make some accurate throws when off balance and on his back foot. He needs improvement in the deep ball. But he needs to show more touch with long ball to provide targets more room for error to adjust. And ultimately what sets Matt apart from other QBs in college is his mental makeup. He is a polished QB that possesses a high football IQ. Great field awareness 4.5 out of 5. Thanks for reading.
Matt and his family have spent recent Christmas' volunteering with orphans in third world countries. So a good head on those shoulders. His release needs some work. But doesn't have prototypical ability to drive the ball and stretch the field vertically as a Joe Flacco or Ben Roethlisberger. So far as pocket presence he has limitations athletically but makes up for it with being clever in the pocket using subtle movements to avoid the rush while keeping his eyes down the field.
The reason he will be a great quarterback in the NFL is game experience. He's played in more games than most college players do entering the draft. If he stays for his Senior year that will be even more experience. He's a natural leader. He was able to keep the team together in the middle of Pete Caroll the head coach leaving USC. The first sophomore in USC history to be named team captain. Very disciplined and religious individual.
BroncosX, what qb besides Big Ben or Tom Brady had immediate timing when they came to the NFL? Barkley has an incredible arm with great accuracy, better than Cutler did from what I can see. He has great vision, mobility in the pocket and a sense of what is behind him during a blitz. He's not impulsive and he's pretty bright. He is clearly ready to be drafted and I believe he'll go. You can't deny that he's the best qb from USC since Palmer.
@TheBassImprov Nah, I believe he will stay because His record this year determines Their ranking Next Year when they will be off of Probation and NCAA sanctions and USC can finally compete for the NaTL again. Plus not To many Quarterbacks can say they were a four year starter at USC. He has more PROs staying then going at this point. He is behind Landry Jones and Luck.
There are a few things Barkley has to improve on before he goes out for the NFL. The key in the NFL is timing above all else and on some throws Barkley is too late.
There are a few things Barkley has to improve on before he goes out for the NFL. The key in the NFL is timing above all else and on some throws Barkley is too late.
In the Draft i like Luck or Barkley for #1 overall but Kellen Moore is underrated on most peoples draft boards and Barkley will probably stay until his senior year. Landry Jones was highly overrated a lot of people picked him to be a heisman contender before the season started.
landry jones is a good qb but that has nothing to do w/ the video. and if you say matt barkley's not that good, just remember he's on the field while you're on the computer. you'd be a great armchair quarterback.
@CaliforniasGold so just because im sitting at my computer i can't say hes not as good as people are saying? obv he is a better qb than i am lol so yea nice buddy you got me there but i said the same thing about jimmy clausen and all of these qb's over the last 2 years and they all suck.. except for jake locker
he doesn't have enough zip on the ball compared to jones or luck. plus he throws passes that would get picked in the nfl. third best qb so far in next years draft unless he takes the next step forward this year for usc
USC is going to run shit in the Pac-12 again very, very soon. Oregon's two year stint at the top is almost over. All the recruiting issues going on and USC's constant stockpile of talent will eventually lead to more pac-12 titles and Rose Bowl wins for the Trojans. Fight On!
Why is he throwing a lot of air balls when he can actually zip one in the WR's hand just like Matthew Stafford? Good accuracy, should do ok in NFL if he learns to throw the ball with more velocity.
he throws off his back foot a lot. other than that he looks like he'll be a stud. incredible accuracy (both standing still and on the run) and pretty good arm strength and great athleticism.
Youll have to forgive me tbe spelling but other than the pro bowl corner thats leaving yall when the labor situation end name Nmandi Asmougha I dont see anyone that was that great that yall drafted. You cant count Jason Campbell he was a pick up that the Redskins should have never traded away. The probldm wasnt with him it was the offensive that Washington had that made him look bad. So kudos the Raiders for getting him he'll workout great them.
His mobility reminds me of McNabb, and his mechanics remind me of Favre. I like his accuracy and his ability to move in the pocket. A couple of criticisms I have is that his timing was a little off on some of these throws and he needs to hang in the pocket longer. He looks promising and I'll pay a lot of attention to him this next season.
@ABOGADO2312 So is Luck's. And people wonder why they always play "above average". Every QB plays "above average" when they don't have shitty protection.
@jimbobucky our offense has been great! but as soon as we lost all our great defensive players to the nfl, our D has been killing us and thats why we have been losing alot of close games for the past 2 years! but i think we will be allot better this year! GO TROJANS!!!
as soon as i saw matt play for the first time at mater dei, i found a pen and wrote down his name! cuz i fuckin knew he was gunna be a beast!!! since then iv been rooting for em like a mutha! cant wait to see him in the nfl! GO TROJANS
This kid is so sick. I would shed tears of joy if the Broncos somehow pulled this kid. If the lockout happens does anyone know if each team would receive the same draft pick?
Man for some reason, I think this kid is better than A.Luck. It doesnt really matter because they both will be franchise QBs, but they way how this guy operates in the pocket screams NFL QB. Those athletic instincts are something you cant teach. Great deep ball, scrambling ability, accuracy and a strong arm. He looks like a day 1 starter for who ever drafts him next year.
despite MB's struggles at the end of the year, he's still markedly improved over his freshman year. Hopefully he'll realize his full potential next year.
This guy is a scrambling Tom Brady he'll b a very prolific passer in 2day's NFL

How come we have such a good QB, but we don't win like the old days at USC?
jimbobucky 10 months ago
@jimbobucky our offense has been great! but as soon as we lost all our great defensive players to the nfl, our D has been killing us and thats why we have been losing alot of close games for the past 2 years! but i think we will be allot better this year! GO TROJANS!!!

I think you're correct. Its probably similar to the NHL's where each team gets a higher chance based on their record.
I must add that the music to this is cool, especially near the end.

YBRR88 11 months ago
he's gonna win a BCS game if he stays for his senior season and he might have the BEST receiver corp in the nation
DaAmericanWanksta 11 months ago
due to USC's 2 year bowl ban, I think he'll stay all 4 years unless he somehow wins the Heisman next season
TheOscar401 11 months ago
IMO this guy is just as good as Luck...and i hate USC btw.
RJR03 11 months ago
If he comes out next year for the draft...that will be like QB heaven, him and Luck will definitely be top 2!

Before I even watch the video I'm pretty sure there aren't many clips from the last four/five games of the season. What a mess.

@CaliforniasGold Thank you :) He just might be my favorite trojan. He's right up there with Matt Leinart and Mike Williams.

if we didn't have so many damn holding penalties, there would be at least 4-5 more deep balls included in this highlight.
IsaacH1273 1 year ago
Even though this highlights Matt, Robert Woods is such a boss.

despite MB's struggles at the end of the year, he's still markedly improved over his freshman year. Hopefully he'll realize his full potential next year.
