but this was back then where there is no telephone, airplane, or car, or internet video...so means of communication and transportation was limited and sometimes impossible...so that's why the Mom's cried..because this would be the last time they would see their daughters for awhile....
I can understand parents crying at the wedding of a daughter, but this is outside my experience. It's not like they didn't plan this for days, or know it was coming. She just got married, so yes: her new home is with her husband. It's not like she's going into exile, or disappearing forever.
