You're a fool, Hurley. Longevity should have no bearing on who the greatest player ever was when it pertains to health. RGO was hands down more talented than Gretzky and didn't mind getting his hands dirty. Orr could do everything that Gretzky could offensively, but could also play shutdown defense....something that Gretzky knows nothing about.

If only he would have had the luxury of modern science, we could be talking about a guy challenging Gretzky in the all-time scoring chart. Seeing how he played his entire NHL career with a bad knee and put up those numbers is absolutely incredible. He's a beauty!!!!!!!!!!!

No one can say that wayne gretzky wasnt great....but ive seen both he & MR.Robert Gordon Orr in their prime......without question Bobby Orr is the greatest player of all time.also orr played 9 fewer seasons than wayne ....too bad for the 6 knee operations that ended his career way too early......THANK YOU GUYS for all the videos & highlights here just sitting back with a smile on my face & watching GOD at work lol!!!

This is really GREAT! VERY EXCITING! I've been following Bobby Orr since I was a child, and, I would STILL rather watch HIS highlights, OVER-AND-OVER, rather than watch MOST ANYONE else's who wears hockey skates!!!! :)

@theghr These are highlights, plus he almost always had faaar more assists than goals every season. Alittle too less rushes? He rushed all the time got players on him then would pass it to esposito then in the open net.

I'm sure many of the rushes not ending up with a goal for Bobby was even more spectacular than many of these, since as you said he had way more assists than goals. Dont get me wrong, this is a good compilation, just maybe lacking some other great moves he had going. Maybe even some more defensive breaks, a rush back after loosing the puck on offence. I'm a Penguin and hold Lemieux over Gretzky, but not neccesarily over Orr. I want to see ALL the best Orr.

say what you want about about wayne (one end of the ice, stays out of the corners, never fights, never blocks shots, metiocre +/-,) gretzky, but Bobby Orr is the greatest all around hockey player to ever lace up a par of skates, period. He won the league scoring title twice as a DEFENSEMAN, and that stat is only the tip of the iceberg as far as what he accomplished during his career.

@flamenewt There is no comparison when it comes to Gretzky or Orr. Both players were miles above anyone that they played against, and both changed the game in many ways. It's like having two cars that both can go the speed of sound, except one is blue and the other is yellow.

@flamenewt Come on now, I'm not taking anything any from Bobby Orr, he was great, but saying Gretzky had a mediocre +/- is absurd. His career total is +518, 4th highest ever. The three above him were all Defense including Orr at a + 597. That is actually outstanding!!! Not Mediocre especially because he was a center, and I feel +/- is more favorable of a statistic for a quality defensemen then it is for a forward. Also, I wouldn't want players like them in the box for fighting?

Gretzky was a selfish, overprotected, one dimentional goal scorer. A "floater". He would hang around the blue line and wait for his pass while others did the grunt work. The league did everything but suck his dick. You'd get 5 in the box just for touching him. Orr is the supreme master of all aspects of the game. Offence - Defence - Passing - Penalty Killing. A working man.

Don't even mention these two players in the same breath again moron.

I am just curious here, how again was Gretzky selfish? That could honestly be the stupidest thing I have every heard. He has won the NHL scoring title on his assists alone. One commentator used the analogy; that is like winning the Major League Batting Title, batting 700. Getting over 100 assists 11 seasons in a row; sure seems unselfish!

Sorry, Bobby Orr was not only a great Defender, but also a great forward. He was always a defender, but still had tons of goals which was rare for any defender.

I was thinking how much more effective the goaltenders would have been back in that era if they really moved once in awhile, lol. Orr was the greatest player in that era but I don't think he would be as dominant today, goalies are much better, for one.

@dmans442: Orr would have been dominant in any era; goalies today benefit from larger, lighter-weight pads, bigger and better-designed gloves, and more. Orr would have benefitted from the newer skates, sticks, and lighter gear - not to mention better medical care and training methods. Goalies in the 1960s didn't use the butterfly style as often as today - but make no mistake, there were some fabulous goalies in that era. Different style of play in those days, no question. Not better, different.

Orr was great, but come on goalies were no were near as good as they r now. sooo many of those goals were what would be considered "soft" today. Look how deep those goalies play in their net then as compared to now. If he were playing today he would have never put up those kind of #'s.....however he also would have gotten to play longer as well due to modern knee surgery techniques so...

I grew up a Chicago Blackhawks fan ,but Any Hockey Fan had to admire the incredible talent of Bobby Orr. He revolutionzed the way the defenseman played the game. Our Own Doug Wilson reminded me of the Bobby Orr style of Play.

Other players hated the Orr for changing the game so much. They realized that they couldn't beat him with a puck, so they just started beating him to a pulp with hard hits. After a few years of that, his knees weren't the same, and he had to retire.

I miss those days. Bobby will always be the best in my book. Ch 38 every game and I stayed up late on school nights when they were on the West Coast to beat up the Kings, Canucks too. It was the greatest time in the NHL too. After Bobby left, I never watched that much, it wasnt the same.

We Bruins fans who were fortunate enough to watch Bobby play will tell you he was greater than all the words ever said about him. Try to get a few complete Bruins games between 1969-75 and watch him play. He was something unbelievable....and the other teams had no choice but to break him, through his left knee, in order to stop him.

I was 11 years old when I watched the Bruins win the Stanley Cup with Orr. In those days, we got one hockey game a week on TV until playoffs.

Orr was different than other defensemen, he always seemed to know what to do in every situation with hustle. Plus, the teammates he could rely on were also famous in their own right.

Orr furthered the defenseman role that evolved to the transition game we take for granted today.

If there was a +/- stat in his playing days, I bet it would be high.
