  • your bow hold is incorrect

  • it sounds nice. its just high pitched. maybe you could use some more rosin on that bow dude.

  • What song is this?

  • CREATIVO... pero mmmm el sonido no es muy bueno...

  • AMAZING, because how many people could actually accomplish this. i love it, flaws and all

  • I can't decide wether to like to dislike this... it's nothing short of awesome, but the PAIN.... THE PAIN... I'll still hear it after I go to sleep in about 8 hours.

  • really creative idea and nice try man

kudos to you for trying to work that out :o

though i have to say you're holding the bow wrong

  • Good pitch and execution, but the tone murdered my fucking ears.

  • mmm esperaba algo mas emocionante pero aun asi es una gran idea !! :D

  • If you tone out the screech it is pretty good bro

  • no ... i am with THICKER GLASS in the top comments

  • sounds kind of horrible

  • I thinking i'm bleeding from the ears but i'll still thumbs up for the effort

  • i can tell what your playing but damn dose it hurt my ears good job tho

  • ugh!

  • The more you tune it, the happier you become. Assuming there is actual wine in them ......

  • omg toothache

  • Awful bow hold...

  • @DavidShanksableIII

yeah, a bit of Sevcik op 2 would help!!

  • I admit this was a really cool experiment but like it said in multiple comments, there are a few things incorrect. You need thicker glass to get rid of that squeak, and then your bow hold is incorrect.

  • Your bow is too tight. ;)

  • wow. i'd defintely love to see if you advance this idea anymore after this. subscribed!

  • HAMAMAMAMAMAMAMAMAM

    HUBU HUBU

    HÄÄÄÄBÄÄÄHHH

    ???

    :D

  • ur holding the bow wrong :U

  • prototype I hope, cool song tho

  • I think it is awesome that you experimented like this!

  • Weird, it hurts my ears but it still sounds pretty. XD

  • Philip Glass?

  • sounds preety good NO jk

  • eaaar raaape... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!

  • Man that was like teeth being pulled

  • eeeeeee... my neck hurts... i agree, maybe if the bow was wet then you'd get a better sound...

  • @BloodLoverHnKnA That and perhaps holding the bow correctly to allow for more control...

  • OcO where did you get that?????? I want one~!!!!! I think you're on the right track by the way. Oh and what's this piece called? I really like ie :)

  • sounds awesome lol i want one

  • ouch my ears

  • Glass violin: eeeech

    Me: ouch

    Glass violin: eeeech

    Lol good idea though

  • perhaps the tone would be a bit better if the glasses were held flat so the water was level inside?

  • sound hurts a bit however the idea is brilliant... i like it :)

  • This is kinda cool! Maybe if the bow was wet...?

My 2 cents. Keep up the cool ideas!

  • Great idea and nice try but now my ears hurt(no offence). Keep working at it!

  • I hope to see this develop further.

  • thicker glass is what ur missing bro

  • fantastic home made instrument! ive always been facinated by musical instruments crafted from things lying around the house. and as for the people who dont like it, lets see an instrument that youve made thats even better than this one.

  • shit...

  • Cool thing to do, and I bet I won't even annoy my grandpa if I tried it. Must you hold the cups like that ?

  • good effort but it was like listening to finger nails on a chalk board. :(

  • @blueshift86 I think I'm the only person on the face of this planet who doesn't understand why that's that big of a deal... to me it's just a sound but I always get confused when people act like it's painful and I'm just sitting there unphased

  • @TheUnarmedGamer perhaps you're a bit deaf or immune to higher frequencies? :o

  • @blueshift86 only at times ;) it was pretty good for a glass violin. You've got to admit that at some points it sounded really beautiful and it kinda sounded haunted. But I do have to admit that what you said about finger nails on a chalk board was true for the most part.

  • that's cool. it's like a high pitch violin. I'll call it a tenor glass violin! It sounds cooler

  • you could strip some skin off and fasten it to a bow

  • doesn't sound very good, but definitely creative!

  • interesting i never thought horse hairs and glass would make me quiver! But a little practice and it will sound great!

  • Nice. its just too high a pitch.

  • Were are you from may we can do thogeter alitle bite exeriment with music

  • Goosebumps....-_-'

  • WHOA !!!!!!!

  • Join americas got talent dude

  • sorry man, just too screechy for me.

  • Just annoying.

  • I actually like this gritty sound with the empty glasses more than the clean one

  • How much wine glasses do you own and how much did it cost?

  • Amazing! Beautiful! Breath taking! Thank you for sharing such an awesome wonderful gift!

  • Cool but I think bowing would be a problem you would probally pour the water down your trousers LOL

  • what song is that

  • Cant listen , way toooo high

  • mnnn....my ears are fucked.....too high.....need bigger glasses...and then it would be beast.

  • :S

  • piercing my ears but still pretty decent playing :)

  • Robert, Your are AMAZING. Congratz to you. You are really an artist, a real and extremely talent musician.

  • This is actually amazing! I can't believe you tried this! Although I do agree that it sounds better with water, this is still really good!!

  • Sir, you are an inspiration the likes of you cannot fathom. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • YOU HAVE A VERY SPECIAL TALENT ROBERT!... YOU PROBE WE DO NOT NEED A SPECIAL INSTRUMENT BUT IMAGINATION...... CONGRATS!

    ajks53

  • That is really really cool.

  • I really reaaaaaalllly wanted to hear the tonic at the end... :P

  • is impressed .. but try it with the glasses just siting on top ,,, without falling off lol

  • LOL - some of these posts don't get the ART content. Instead of discussing bowing technique, just imagine him doing this before 30 000 people at a rock festival. They'd get it.

  • great

  • Awesome =)

  • I think you did a very good job... i can imagine that you must have been grinding the edges alot to get it to sound the way it does now. Clean or not it is a very peculiar instrument!

Have a nice day sir :)

  • The glasses filled with water are definitely more haunting. But I think this has it's merits, as well. It's much higher pitched than a violin. Maybe if you played the part of a piccolo on it, it might work.

  • It's somewhat painful to my ears haha, but you surely have my respect for experimenting. Keep up the good work :). And most importantly: have fun while doing it.

  • Love the sound!

  • I love the idea, and the song is really pretty, but is there a way to drop it down one octive or so? I will agree that it is quite beautiful, but some parts of the song become distasteful because the pitch is actually painful. It probably doesn't help that I'm wearing headphones, but my mother is sleeping...

Regardless, this was a brilliant experiment, and I hope you can successfully create an instrument like this!

  • How about using a wet rubber bow that has the texture of skin, with water supplied from a sponge tip or syringe? Great idea by the way! And fantastic playing on the Glass Harp, instant fan here!

  • ouch

  • I'm sorry, this hurts my ears...I have very sensitive ears...am I a douche if I dislike?....

    sorry

  • Just wondering - would the instrument be easier to play if you put the two rows of glasses at a slight angle with each other - sort of a "V" formation. That way each glass contact point would be closer to the next.

Interesting sounding instrument - I like it!

  • Well done. Thanks for the posting.

  • what a terrible sounding instrument lol.

  • jo robbert im a guy from dordrecht i watched u play a few years ago really cool that ur triyng a glass violin man

hope to see u play in our town again man

    cheers

  • That is too cool.

You'd need crazy fast arms to play concert pieces though, then again, having seen your other videos, I know that you of all people could most likely play it at such speeds.

  • looks more like a wine glass viola...

  • that made me crinch

  • im sorry but i really dont like the sound of tht other then that ur really good at it

  • oh god the sound of resin on glass.

  • your amazing man, your dedication is obvious and i just wanted to say i enjoy all your videos very much

  • Cool, but sounds horrible!! LOL!

  • crazy...but amazing

  • AAAH MY EARS !!!! XD....sharp sounds

  • this gave my a headache, if it werent so high i would enjoy it

  • can u send me this song in a piano cover? i need it , sooo beautiful

  • That was great but... im sorry my ears are now broken T.T

  • bass bow?

  • I love how you experiment with glasses as musical instruments. Some criticism however: Even in your other videos the sound is a bit too sharp. Like a shriek. I'm not sure if this is because of your recording equipment or because of the shapes of glass which you use, but it's there.

  • I wonder then, if you would need a specially designed bow. One that is more lightweight. Since on a violin, all that weight gets to just lay on the strings, but I see here, your bow is having some trouble because it is BOUNCING on the wine glasses. In addition, it is so much more difficult for you because, unlike strings, the initial contact point is convex - the rounded edge of rim, vs the straight strings. Think a very lightweight bow would help?

  • @qwinkly You could then adjust the weight of the bow yourself to control volume and power, but not have to contend with it's actual weight as an initial problem.

  • nice try! don't stop!

  • Good luck with the experiment. Glasses look heavy, but there may be potential there. If the bow were dampened would that affect the sound? Anyway, love the song. Perhaps you will play it with your traditional glasses for us some time. :-)

  • argh sorry it hurts my ear too much to hear it

  • THAT HURTS MY EARS

  • Fantasztikóóóóóóóó****

    Gizus

  • Uh oh. If you want that bow to last, you should loosen it up a ton more! - this coming from a cellist.

  • GOOD IDEA ........MY deliberation...... DRINK!

  • orrivel

  • OWWWWWW

  • wow! Did you invent the thing holding the wineglasses? That's really cool! I mean, yeah the sound isn't "clean" but it's still WICKED AWESOME! I can't wait to see more of this! By the way, I really liked your composition. ;)

  • sounds a bit off... but I think with a bit of tweeking that could be fixed, somehow :p

I love the experiment, think it could come out great ^^

  • Just a random idea: does putting different roughnesses on the glass edge make a helpful difference in sound?

  • Intresting idea, nice to see someone is still exploring these kinds of things. Wonderful talent by the way!

  • hi sir,,i can now play the glass harp, but not that much.you can check my cover song yesterday by the beatles..thank you so much..

  • People enjoy giving advice sooooooooooooooo much...

  • I hope you don't mind me saying this but this is alittle too high pitched for me. However, you do have a very creative mind and remarkable skills :)

  • very nice indeed

  • i've watched a few of your other videos too, and i must say that you are a very talented musician! keep it up with the glasses...

must need a very delicate touch from what i can imagine - especially on the glass harp and glass harmonica..

    Good Job!

    cheers

  • its 23:15 i sleeping right now

    aah boring

  • umm, i hope you don't mind me saying, but you're not holding the bow properly. but if you meant to do it then ok, don't mind this comment.

    BTW, you are really good!!

  • @TheMetube1965 I don't think it is possible to hold the bow properly.

On a violin the bow is leaning on a string, so it won't fall of.

On the glasses I must control both pressure and direction, so I need

to have a firm grip that's not "proper".

Anyway I have asked a few good violin players to try it and give me

suggestions, they all agree that they haven't got a clue because it's not a violin.

The only certain thing is that glasses sound better when played with water.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • @roberttiso what about keeping the bowstring wet? have you tried that? *just a possibly helpful suggestion, sorry if it doesnt help ^_^*

  • @roberttiso maybe try putting a little water in them..i wonder also would there be a different tone if you could put a thicker liquid in the glass like milk or syrup and also playing in front of a big fan..Though that would be dangerous with the water and all..I don't mean it as a joke.I liked it though it was very high pitched.

  • @roberttiso I don't think I agree with you. As a violinist I can tell you, that it's best to hold the bow like a violinist. It's the firmest grip and that's not true, that you can lean with it on the violin. The point is that it's flexible and that you can hold it in midair and play. I suggest you to learn that proper grip.

Otherwise this is awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing more from you :))

  • @roberttiso I actually think that holding the bow closer to the way a violinist does would help you out a lot. It gives you much greater control over the bow, eliminating that bouncy thing the bow does when held with a fist. With a fist, our wrists and fingers can't help us out at all, so we're just at the mercy of our big, clumsy arm. What you're trying to accomplish would need a more delicate touch, don't you think? :) What an interesting instrument though, and a gorgeous sound!

  • @roberttiso he just meant that ur supposed to hold the bow with only like 3 fingers really... thumb in between the top and bottom and first and middle on the top squeezing the part where the string ends...

  • @roberttiso as someone who has played violin for 15 years it is possible but it takes a lot of time to both develop proper technique and the strength required to do so. but great video!

  • @roberttiso Your art obviously takes a lot of dedication, and while I think it's obvious that playing the 'traditional' way with water is a better sound, I am glad to see you are experimenting and trying to uncover new ground!

  • @TheMetube1965 well, i'm sure if he was holding the bow properly as with a violin it would produce a different sound...so it's possible that this was actually a better alternative

  • @TheMetube1965 not proper for a real violin but i am sure he had to make some adjustments while playing with these glasses, some things just should be kept to ones self... just enjoy it. why do people have to criticise everything

  • @TheMetube1965 LOL . . . It's okay . . . Look at the size of that freaking neck!

  • WOOW I just saw all of your videos, I think you are a very talented person, something that people like us most learn from you, I play piano and drums, but I never thinked it was possible to create an instrument. Congrats!!!!!!

P.S. I saw the tutorial video of tunning the glass harp, in the background there's a Piano, I think I have the same one, is it a "Schiedmayer Pianofortefabrik stuttgart"?

  • It's a bit abrasive as it is now, though I see how it could be quite beautiful when perfected... I recommend you sell this to a movie studio. The high-frequency and strangely grating sound could be used to great effect in movie scores.

Picture a lone glass-violin playing above the low rumbling of an orchestra... Very atmospheric!

  • what's the name of the song pls ? i can't remember and i definitely need to know ! pls someone help ^^

  • @Magemax This song has no name, it's my creation using the

possibilities if this instrument. I hope you liked it.

  • @roberttiso really ? i swear you were inspired by a well known song, i re-heard it in a film last week, i will try to find it then ^^

  • @roberttiso sounds a bit like the story of the impossible

  • @roberttiso OMG this is a really really beautiful song...you should subscribe

  • @Magemax maybe you're thinking of The Animals - House of the Rising Sun

  • @NiacinWaterTaffy actually i was thinking of The story of impossible from Peter von Poehl

  • @Magemax maybe you're thinking of The Animals - House of the Rising Sun

  • THe sound its amazing man,

Good luck for you to improve your instrument!!!

    Very nice

  • wow... hehe nice.

  • So cool.I want to try doing that but I am sure I wouldn't be able do that

  • thi is genious!!i like it!!!

  • This is one of the oddest but coolest instruments about! % stars Mr Tiso!!!!! Did you build this instrument yourself?

  • id imagine that this could sound really unique and awesome if it could be developed more. its a very intriguing idea.

  • i love it. squeaky but cool

  • Notice that the water level -if there is any - doesn't vary as the "instrument" is moved about. Pay attention to the very end.

  • These glasses have no water in them.

They are tuned by grinding the lower outside part

of the glass, the same method used to tone the bowls

of the glass harmonica. The idea was developed by Benjamin Franklin in 1761.

  • "just an experiment" - well I thought that was pretty awesome. That looks incredibly difficult to me, and I think you did a great job!

  • it looks like your scratching the glass with the bow

  • neat... cool experiment...!

  • I like it. The sound is way too sharp, but I imagine that would be remedied fairly easily, along with looking up some free violin guides online you may end up with a good sounding instrument.

  • thats just horrible

  • Hmm, interesting. (I WANT ONE)

  • maybe if you learn how to hold the bow like a violinist it would help a bit
