why do all youtube discussions about this great musical genius usually end up in the pathetically predictable "well he's gay" contributions, followed by the inevitable "well who cares" replies? people, please .... just listen to the emotion and the harmony.
@TusOjosNegros Remember though, this was about the time Elton had difficulties with his voice from years of endless touring, and eventually had throat surgery either in late 86 or early 87, which ended up lowering his voice. If you heard the album "Leather Jackets" which came out in late 86 (and was mostly dreadful by Elton's standards) he had difficulty carrying those songs even in the studio. That whole 1985-86 period for him was rough on his voice....
@robste He only had problems with his voice due to finishing the recording of Leather Jackets in America, most of the stuff from earlier on in the tour (Bloomington, Maryland and MSG) are great but this is a month after MSG and he's in not such good shape here!
@formulaonemad You should of heard him at the Universal in L.A. He came out singing the song tonight, and after having bragged about how great he sounds, and his range. He comes out and sounded like he just gargled with razor blades and marbles! And I had tickets for 4 nights, and just prayed it was temporary! It wasn't!That was the last of the great falsetto!
@gahloot formulaonemad is fucking clueless. He likes the 1985-1986 tour and will say anything to defend the awful voice he had during that era. He is a dipshit.
@thelurker25 Agreed, the 85-86 tour was not the best although the many voice changes from Elton over the years give the songs new forms of life. I personally think 76-77 was his best era for vocal range, it was strong and he hit the high notes perfectly.
@thelurker25 excuse me? fucking clueless? read my comments again, do I defend his voice all the time? No I don't you narrow minded prick, I find this performance awful as well as most of Melbourne and some of Sydney however unlike you, I try to look for positives hence why I say the One Horse Town sang conservatively is fine until the nodules set in. And I find it extremely big of you to write this slagging me off behind my back. Twat.
Oh man: You must have caught him during that October 7-10 timeframe (he even did two shows in one day on October 10th). On the two Los Angeles shows on Youtube, Elton sounds REALLY BAD (just like razor blades and marbles)! The later 1986 shows are great for the music, but not for Elton's voice!
i dont follow your comment averagehomosapien...can you explain? speaking about gay...Elton's preferences cannot get involved in his music style. His music is majestic, cannot be compared. I can give you more examples...Freddy Mercury, George Michael, mexican Juan Gabriel, all their music is formidable.
now thats a stupid comment..."gay ..but". Why does his sexuality play a role in your comment. He's one of the greatest songwriters and performers ever...PERIOD
@Larc360 "mather fucker" ? maybe you should learn to formulate a word before you attempt to post something on this site. I apologize i may have used too many big words for you REDNECK.
Well, this was done two months before Elton had lesions removed from his vocal cords. Because he had not had them removed yet, it caused his voice to sound very worn and raspy and made it almost impossible to hit the right notes.

I love this song, but to my mind he is not the best live singer, his voice is weak and often he can't carry he tunes.

ELTON JOHN DEAD IN L.A.
Singer Elton John died in L.A. today when a giant dildo fell on his head. His last words were,"I AM NOT AN ANIMAL! I AM...A...FAG!".
TracyTAnderson 2 years ago
The keyboard started to sneak into songs like this and then it would eventually become Elton's instrument (1988), instead of an acoustic piano.
The last time he seems to have used an acoustic piano would be in 1990.
