Ummm shouldn't of it by now? According to Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth film, we should be in dire need of an enema by now. My parents live right on the coast, they have been there for 25 years. Only about 5 feet of elevation from the sea. Their house still stands and will be for many many years. Never has it flooded even through the worst storms. I'm just wondering what they are going to do when nothing happens?
We need more scientist speaking to the public and less Al Gore's. Everytime I make a comment about GCC all I ever hear in reply is how Al Gore flies private jets and uses more energy in a week than an average home uses in a year.
i totally disagree. my dad is a scientist and is absolutly hopeless at any sort of communication with other people unless numbers are involved. al gore is a skilled communicator (ex politician, ex journalist) who has a passion for science and has taken on the role of spokesman for scientists who study climate change. most scientist would not be able to communicate in a way that would appeal to media, so no one would listen.
@Aaron518 the idiots that say that are usually beyond help, fox news is their only source of (mis)information. They tend to be people that take things on faith, and they distrust facts as a rule.
Forgive me, I am puzzled. I lived through the late sixties and seventies when temperatures were dropping and we were bein warned of a new Ice Age. Now CO2 was entering the atmosphere at record levels yet it was not as Al Gore says producing `warming`. There has always being ice breaking off from the Poles but it was never uniform and even today there are places where the ice is forming.Should I be arrested for saying these things?
I am always open to information. When 19,000 scientists in Winnipeg had their say I do not remember them re eiving any replies. They may have been wrong., I grant you. But people who are paid money to discover things usually end up discovering them. Which is why I keep an open mind on many reports from the jArctic and Antiarctic. Despite their reports the temperature of the glove has not risen in Five years. You may know different and better I concede but I have a right to ask my questions.
The "19000" number refers to the Oregon Petition, which has long been debunked (i.e./watch?v=5P8mlF8KT6I). They weren't in Winnipeg (and often weren't even scientists, and in some cases had been dead longer than there had been a petition to sign).
The "Winnipeg" reference probably refers to Tim Ball, who consistently inflates his resume. (The University of Winnipeg has no climatology department, for instance).
As for the "five years" bit: Consider the DEFINITION of Climate: tinyurl or4yqq
A zombie Apocalypse is obviously more probable the the world being destroyed by global warming. I think all the countries need have a convention to figure out a solution to the near future zombie problem.
In environmental news, scientists say theyve found new evidence the Arctic is warming far faster than previously anticipated. The US National Snow and Ice Center says temperatures recorded today werent expected for another ten to fifteen years. Researchers say autumn temperatures were higher because of the heat accumulation from increased melting in the summer. The process, known as Arctic amplification, could signify Arctic melting has hit a point of no return.
yup. the EPA has some predictive maps out. doesn't look at all good for southern florida. they should cancel the everglades restoration project and use the money for relocation expenses in the next 50 years.
LOL!! yeah it would be good to start sucking water out of the ocean, desalinating it and storing it in inland ponds. then we could have fresh water reserves and trout farms and stuff.
Eventually the whole Greenland ice cap will melt and flood vast areas of coastline. I guess on the bright side of things Greenland will become much more habitable, LOL.
best to be prepared i think. where i live the winter sucks but its 500 m above sea level. if only people would shift their energy from global warming denying to planning for the immediate future.
well there is info out there about how the continents have shifted over time. but the guy in the clip showed a map from the environmental protection agency. it's not looking good for southern florida in the next 50 to 100 years.
the weight of scientific opinion is that climate change is happening and that it is caused by human activity. there may be discussion on the rate of change (it may be faster than current models suggest) and there may be discussion on how weather changes will specifically affect local areas. in general extreme weather will increase.
thanks so much carol! i am turning into a bit of an environmentalist just from stuff i hear at work. there are lots of people around who deny that there is even a problem. so i am going to start making an effort to pass on what i have heard.
@videochick770
You should have asked him about the growing Antarctic ice too.
There is no danger of Florida sinking into the ocean anytime soon.

thanks for this comment. the conservative projections are referred to in this clip, but Meier's full talk referred also to these increased effects.

"Big changes," quotha. Man, I wouldn't want to be living in the third world anywhere near an ocean coast in the next few years.
Oh, yeah -- and most of Florida is like less than a meter above sea level, right? Goodbye, peninsula.

So...if we get rid of water at the same rate the ice melts, we'll be ok, right? OK, everybody go flush your toilets...
