In fact the russian team that year had pretty much destroyed most of the teams they went up against and the american team was struggling through several of the games they played. That moment sparked a huge wave (my generation) of highly skilled players to ever skate on the ice today. If not for the canada/usa rivalry, the players today wouldn't nearly be half as skilled and dominate the modern world of hockey.

Olympic Hockey is diluted with pro players now. Now that the Russians and other countries have their best players in the NHL, I wish that the teams would go back to playing amateur.
No, Im sore that professionals are still playing. No reason for it. The NHL now imports the best players from other countries. Give the amateurs a stage. Rob Morrow, a great player probably wouldn't have gotten a chance in the NHL had he not blossomed on the world stage. They even gave Jim Craig, a mid line goaltender a contract. Eruzione was offered one, but he realized that he didn't have what it took. What's wrong with showcasing amateurs?
Oh, and I could care less about Olympic Hockey. I don't even watch the NHL. Their attempt to make the sport European hockey in the early 2000's destroyed it. Its starting to get a little more physical, but its still not the same. You can't even compare players nowadays with ones from the past. Mario Lemieux and Gretsky used to get NAILED...then get back up...and score goals, within the confines of off sides.

To all the Canadian bashing America for losing the last olympics to you guys, just stop. We came damn close and congrats to you guys for winning it. THIS video on the other hand is what brought America together in one of our toughest times. A lot of stuff was going on in American life, and these college kids brought America back to its feet. This was more then just a hockey game for the American People.

I'm sick of all these 'nucks bashing USA hockey. Especially on a video that has nothing to do with them. Obviously USA doesn't suck at hockey since we did beat Canada for gold at the IIHF! USA beat Canada in the Olympics and the 2nd game had to go into Overtime. Pretty solid hockey..

That moment sparked a huge wave (my generation) of highly skilled players to ever skate on the ice today. If not for the canada/usa rivalry, the players today wouldn't nearly be half as skilled and dominate the modern world of hockey.

I'm a Canadian and to the Canadians who are here bashing the Americans, just stop. You're making the rest of us look bad. I'm more thrilled than anyone to win gold, especially when it comes over the USA but the Miracle on Ice is their moment and we shouldn't be trying to taint it. This helped the growth of hockey in America and in the end, it's benefitial to all that more and more people around the world are picking up the greatest sport on earth. Great game USA. No shame in silver.

it was a hell of a game. im american so of course i was disappointed, but of all teams that could have eliminated us, theres none more honorable than to the father of the greatest sport in the world. congratulations canada, you made history for your country, and in a way this is likef canadas own miracle on ice. we beat the russians in our own turf, and you defeated us in yours. i cant be bitter because this is something for future canadians to cherish and be proud of

Olympic Hockey is diluted with pro players now. Now that the Russians and other countries have their best players in the NHL, I wish that the teams would go back to playing amateur.

No, Im sore that professionals are still playing. No reason for it. The NHL now imports the best players from other countries. Give the amateurs a stage. Rob Morrow, a great player probably wouldn't have gotten a chance in the NHL had he not blossomed on the world stage. They even gave Jim Craig, a mid line goaltender a contract. Eruzione was offered one, but he realized that he didn't have what it took. What's wrong with showcasing amateurs?

Oh, and I could care less about Olympic Hockey. I don't even watch the NHL. Their attempt to make the sport European hockey in the early 2000's destroyed it. Its starting to get a little more physical, but its still not the same. You can't even compare players nowadays with ones from the past. Mario Lemieux and Gretsky used to get NAILED...then get back up...and score goals, within the confines of off sides.

The russian players were NEVER true amateurs! Oh sure, they were all in the Army, that was just their cover story. They spent a lot more time with hockey sticks than they did with rifles!
They were "professionals" dressed up as amateurs. They were about as amateur as an East German weightlifter was drug-free!
