i will never forget this amazing moment, there was clouds in france but, the yellow horizon and the silence of animals ... simply the great experience in life ... en before 21 century it was the good time
Don't you find it embarrassing you spelled 'embarrassing' wrong in your description box? Lol! But very amazinG! I can't wait until August 12th 2017 when the eclipse will be in the Midwest USA :)
i got 1999 solor eclipse recorded i was 5 back in 99 i actully remember it it was amazing everything went dark and i was like wtf lol know i understand why buts its amazing
I wish I remember this day ! :( I was only 2 years old so I dont remember a thing, although my mom told me I was just in the garden and didnt notice a thing ! x
omg that gave me goose bumps ^^ i was 5 at the time? we saw it in cornwall to, one of the best places to see it, i remember all the birds going quite :')
@julzdrums, this is totally NOT fake, as I was there ( and in the footage). The original footage has been passed on to BBC and soon to be aired this summer as part of English video nostalgia.
@julzdrums It is fake. An eclipse happens slowly. Takes over an hour. The first contact is like half an hour. The second contact takes about 10 minutes. And the eclipse itself last only about 3-6 minutes. From my knowledge and Google research. Why on earch would it just go pitch black in an instant like that? That would be blinding.
The sudden darkness is due to the aparture setting on the Camcorder. My cousin filming had to adjust it quickly to capture the carona. . In realiyy it got very dark over about 30 seconds and the eclipse lasted about 2 mins, the vid is real time and not cut at all (although we clearly added the music and also the radio voice at the start). The footage has been used on the BBC and is genuine i assure you.
During the total eclipse of 1999, I went outside and, just before totality, turned away from the sun pulled down my trousers and pants and pointed my arse at it. Then, when totality had finished, I pulled up my pants and trousers and went back indoors.
Wait, did it go that dark that quickly, coz I doubt it but i know nothing about eclipses. I thought it was a gradual thing, rather than a quick black out???
is it just me or did anyone else have a tear in there eye when this happened i actually think it is quite emotional actually because people seem to get really close when this happened and everyone just had a fantastic time still brings a tear to my eye
Captured the atmosphere perfectly...a beautifully surreal moment...and dont apologise for the music! The choice of soundtrack, and the way it's edited in is brilliant!
It's an amazing coincidence that the solar eclipse should take place on the last year before the new Millenium. Not only that 1999 brings back fond memories for me because it was the year my husband and I married in Las Vegas, well we married in November. Judging by the other comments I've read 1999 seemed like a good year for everyone else too.
Good choice of music I thought :) Was in Falmouth for this one. Sadly we had total cloud cover, just a mile or two away and we would have caught a break! Still, the night before gave us pristine skies and a good opportunity for astronomy :D
We got a 98% eclipse in my area that day. It was awesome, a sight that I'll not forget! I've seen partial eclipses before but the 1999 one had more WOW factor!
We were in Newquay that year and saw the whole thing. The break in the cloud was almost magical, wasn't it?... I shall always remember it. It emphasises just how 'small', yet precious we are :)
Me and my ex travelled down to Cornwall and we watched the Eclipse from Fistrel beach.I was full of all sorts of emotions and although i found the experience very overwhelming i was acually very freaked out by it lol.Not sure why and yes i know i may come across as weird lol
Not weird at all! I'm an amateur astronomer who had never witnessed a total eclipse until that day. Was in Falmouth to watch it. Have to admit that although it was fascinating, it also scared the crap out of me. I think it's all down to it being a very rare, enormous event that we have no control over, makes us realise just how small and insignificant we are in the scheme of things.
Fantastic. Great memories. I saw it in France in 1999 and we must have had the only 3minutes of clear sky the whole day. It poured down with rain, but at the exact moment of totality, the skies cleared and we saw all of the eclipse. Just like all of you, we went nuts! Crying and screaming. A very emotional moment for me.
I'm annoyed i was an angry 12 yr old and thought it was 'gay' lol but we're never gonna see anything like that again in our lifetimes and all i can do is tell my kids about it who won't actually understand or appreciate how amazing it really was.
Superb. Saw the eclipse on the dunes above Perranporth as a breeze parted the clouds just in time. Amazing experience and this video brings back those memories back. Thanks.
i was there that day at fistral beach looking at the same hole in the sky, what a view, my hairs stood up on end again when i just relived that memory. thanks for that mate
thumbs up if anyone saw this and there cornish

I'm so pleased to have found this footage - even with it's over the top atmosphere. I love it!
I travelled down to Cornwall overnight on a steam train and watched shooting stars at 4am in a field then watched the eclipse.
Thank you for bringing back some great memories.
