His best was 215.5 and he really seemed stronger whenever that was. He also looked bigger but must not have been if he was at 75 both times. He's credited with a 380 total at 75 which I think still tops anyone else's. But of course his lifts went out of existence (!!!) when the weight classes were "reorganized," huh? I think it was politics to make new "records" possible. In his time the jerk not the snatch was the main focus which is why the snatch has improved since then but not the jerk.
Rusev seen in the warm up area. This was not Varbanov's best outing. He did smoke 215.5 leaving him the all time best CJ in 75 up to 77 category. IMO Rusev was close second; Pablo Lara 3rd; and Perepetchenov 4th---based on bodyweight to lift ratios. Sagir the best snatcher in that range. Yes, Oleg did 2.5kg more, but Sagir is 3 inches taller and seemed good for 5kg more.
215.5 is unreal at 77, i remember perepetchenovs 210 at 77 that was amazing, so powerful but this guy was amazing! im doing an all time sinclair list for the best lifters ever and he ranks around the top 15 !!!
Remember Varbanov was a 75. Those 2kg less adds merit. Oleg's 210 seemed too easy for a limit. Lara's 205 looked too easy also. Could be Fred Lowe was better than any of them---lacking the "intelligent" doping methods they all likely had, Fred still did 2.5x bodyweight 415 @165.
Oh i know, i agree varbanov was more significant than oleg, but im saying olegs speed is legendry!! well thats impressive, so many lifters taking advantage of ped's!

Chile I despise the champion of the world and it lost his opportunity to raise the level of this sport
