@geddoe316 thats kind of a big point of the movie. you know, growing up and respecting authority and not just fucking around because you're a sixteen year old with a record collection and you know better than everyone else.
I think the point is that Enid is an intellectual who is too cognizant for a meaningless position as a monkey for a large corporation that thrives on profits at the expense of honesty. For the most part she's conflicted about assimilating to the bullshit that customer service thrives on. In other words, she's too honest with herself to contort to the mold of the world around her.
I thought this film would be another boring crap from Hollywood but Thora Birch made it look much better. She is amazing actress and unquestioning "master of weird roles". Steve Buscemi and Scarlett Johansson were great as well. Brad Renfro should have had much more screen time.
Having worked in retail, it IS sleazy how retail's all about pushing for sales and not letting the customer have what they want. Right now, I'd probably be fired after one minute, because like Enid, there's no way I'm gonna take this kinda crap!!!
I worked in a restaurant for a while - a brief while but boy was it torturous - and my manager had the exact same thing to say for everything. "Those are the rules! Don't question, don't argue". And, of course, "I'm the manager, I don't have to listen to you."
It served the shittiest food ever. But, fucking assholes have to feel great about their good for nothing jobs. After all, we leave him in a few weeks working part time and he's the one rotting for life.
I worked in a movie theater and this scene is classic and 100% true. I could make comments about the movie and we had to push the larger size popcorn and upsell even if i was not in agreement. This is a great scene and should be used in traing classes for movie theater employees of what NOT to do..
I watched this movie back when I was in highschool and I worked at a movie theatre at the time and I watched it right before starting my shift....that night I laughed my ass off everytime I served popcorn.
Yeah seriously! I do too and I hate people who ask for extra layered butter...whatever that stuff is, it's not normal. It makes the most disgusting sound when you squeeze it out...my manager is also always on my case about upselling.
I worked at Harkins for nearly two years, and this scene sums up the experience of working in a movie theatre to a T.

Hahaha, get over it, it's a movie. And I don't see what is ignorant about the way she talks. It's just overly frank.
