Yoshida is a dynamic player, and he even manages to win sets with Wang Hao during the 2009 World Championship that Hao won, but in this game it look like Timo Boll is playing a beginner, Timo's tactics are leaving Yoshida guessing all the time, it looks like he has no clue what is going on
I think yoshida kaii's problem is that his forehand (strong as it is) requires a long recovery time, during which his opponent could just block or place to put him off guard. Kaii's forhand is fun to watch though and I think that he is a great player. I don't see what the big deal is that he was a chinese national who now plays for japan. Because chinese born players go to other countries to play allows us spectators to see a variety of great and interesting players like kaii.
has nothing to do with left or right handed players. players who can't handle different sides are only at lower levels. the reason why yoshida had problems was because of timo's shot type. timo has short ranged, high arc, heavy topspin loops. yoshida's technique's is best used mid distance vs asian style horizontal looping, where low, long arcs are common.notice in the beginning he tried to counter loop but couldn't control the kick well. that's why he tried to block and couldn't attack much
I agree with the comments made by 17teacmrocks above, and another point we need to pay attention to: one-sided penholders always have difficulty playing against lefty shakehand because they suffer from a much larger angle - which means the powerful forehand of penholders is suppressed.

wow, one ball to yoshida's backhand and he basicly has to defend. What a poor style, this penholder is.

At least he has a pair of aggresive eyes :)
erunilmo 1 year ago
@jamesjyu so many noobs like youngos. timo plays very wall, has strong spin. it's a lot harder than just saying "he plays too passive".
timo isn't the strongest hitter but there's a reason why he's so high ranked

The Chinese Jap Yoshida just didn't have the effective power of a Chinese-style penholder. Thanks to his Japanese coach.
tyoungos 2 years ago 19
@tyoungos Maybe it's because he doesn't know the reverse backhand like Huang Hao and Ma Lin.

Timo is just so unrelenting. how can you unnerve him? its hard... even against some of the best asian players.

Timo Boll probably is the No. 1 European player against Asian players.

why is he using chinese penhold?

1.13....is changing the grip while playing allowed??
PingMast 2 years ago
yes, why not? as long as you use the rubber on the blade, everything is allowed what's possible...
yOGidabaer 2 years ago
of course, as well as changing hands or anything like that.
