this is not good... boss sd-1 makes it all muddy and dark! theres absolutely no brightness there! even the amps on the rocksmith game sounds tons better, while being 20 times as cheaper. get that pedal out of your system and throw it out the window, cuz it sucks. the pure overdrive from the amp is much better than that cheap-ass pedal
@deathfreakkk this has potential for metal and hi gain with a clean boost od pedal, but the triple xxx is designed for it specifically... so it depends if you want something that's gonna be like a mesa recto(triple xxx), or something like a hot-rodded jcm 800(marshall)
I need tone tips for a metalcore type sound through mine and I am horrible at messing with it so I would need exact numbers if you guys could help me out
The tsl 100 comes stock with Svetlana tubes in them. They dont have much gain and are mainly a classic rock tube. Try changing the tubes to something like a tung sol for more gain. I know some guys are like me and dont want to fool with a vast array of pedals to get good sound so this is another option.
Marshall uses SED =C= valves in the power section and either JJ's or Shuguangs in the preamp section. Seeing how you said Svetlana I'll assume you were talking about output valves not having gain and honestly for someone to say that you would have to be running the amp almost maxed out in order to notice since in class A/B amps the PI is going to break up long before the power section does. Most of what people consider "power tube distortion" is really just the PI being overdriven.
@InVESQUA Suggestion... The TSL has a pretty high amount of gain. So play the guitar more than the amp. What I mean by that is most people take the easy way out and dial in as much gain as possible so they don't have to play as precisely. Too much gain can kill your guitar's tone. I have this amp too with EL34 tubes. Sometimes I run my guitar through a little 7 band Boss EQ pedal and get some pretty nasty metal sounds from it. You don't really need an outboard distortion.
@bandit7498 hey thanks for the suggestion, no ive played other tsl heads with much more gain its just mine for some reason, but also my epi les paul pickups are starting to really dulll out for some reason, i put my jackson dk2m through it with seymour duncan pickups and it sounded ALOT better, but yeah you are right, i wasnt looking for some major metal sound aha, and also i found cranking it on just the 25watt mode really gave it some nice tone.

Hey, I've got a Line 6 15w amp. If I bought a Marshall cabinet, would I be able to wire the Line 6 to the cabinet and play through it? :)

I have always liked this amp, does it really matter if you boost it with an overdrive like the TS-9 or if you use a distortion like the Boss MT-2?
