  • Playing music, as an end to itself, especially in the midst of all that, isn't virtuous. It can be romanticized all you like (and you NEED to, jsut to jusitf it), but the fact is that unless art seeks social change, it's just crayon scribbling.

  • @jackdtroughton Art, specifically music, doesn't need to seek social change, sorry. It's very powerful when it does change society (for better or worse), but art is expression, and it does not need to impact anything unless it seeks out to do so. You neglect every other form of art thats independent when you call it "just crayon scribbling". I really disagree with you on that.

  • I hear that the government in Iraq now is worse than it was... I don't pity the Americans but I feel for the innocent people there...

  • Saw them last night in Austin Texas, it was fucking amazing!!!! Amazing guys!

Ha haaa! Couldn't agree with you more :)

Only the ones who have the unfortunate chance of being governed by an islamic agenda could understand how shitty it is.

  • "...it's like, I don't give a fuck about the news, I just want to rock" (rest of band murmures agreement) THAT is the most badass line I have ever heard! These guys have to carry guns to friggin practice, for the love of Pete. Guys like that are just what metal needs to keep it fresh, young and growing. Rock on brothers!

  • Just finished reading the book Heavy Metal in Baghdad, and what can I say, just astonished. Puts things into perspective when I think I am learning the guitar with my son and daughter in our very safe world down under in Australia. Music does cross the divide. All power to you.

  • At 1:25, what song is it ? Does anyone know ?

  • metal in islamic countries.badass.

  • @DrautBlackMetal , basically Islam does not prevent muslim from playing metal.. AS LONG AS muslims are well disciplined to observe the 5 pillars (prayers, fasting, etc.) and believe in One God.. that's all.. no problem at all for muslim to play rock music.. dont get confused with some of radical muslims.. most of muslim around the world are open.

  • I saw this on showtime and it truly opened my eyes to the rest of the world. Mad respect for each one of them and i wish them the best in the future.

  • Great work! Feel free to comment and rate our videos... take care BRONSON

Here in the US we think we have it rough and our GOV sucks too!! IF our Gov tried that shit WE THE PEOPLE WILL KICK YOUR ASSES. and they know it! These guys were cool I liked them ,they jammed I wish I could talk to them and I hope their safe and make it to the US.

  • You'll be happy to know they did make it to the states due to some help from a band called Testament

  • Oh man I just finished the whole thing, very touching. Deff one of the best docs I ever seen.

  • Nineva

#1: The U.S. military says a barrage of rockets has struck a joint American-Iraqi base south of Baghdad, killing every gay people in the village but damaging their equipment but the Mexican army left. The US military says about 10 rockets struck Camp Sparrowhawk, near the town of Amarrah. It says the attack began early Saturday morning. Maj. Myles Caggins, a military spokesman, says the rockets have injured two Iraqi soldiers. He also says there was minor damage to equipment.

  • I'm grateful to be able to see something like this. I live in the united states and nothing is better or more honest, and harder to find, than a natives point of view. All people have to do is care enough to watch something like this, then they can differentiate bullshit from the facts. It isn't too much too ask, and if people really cared they would shut their mouths and turn off fox news and listen to native people. It's common sense, and it's amazing how little of it is around. GREAT doc.

  • @amorefati I totally agree with you in terms of "the natives point of view "thing. Even though I have a partner who comes from Morocco and he is not persecuted for his conviction - BUT well discriminated by his own fellow Moroccans here in Germany (!)- it is for this very reason so important to listen to people who learned sth the hard way.

    \m/ Great documentary- well done!

  • REBEL THE SYSTEM LONG LIVE METAL

  • don't like how he said he doesnt care bout the news. Pretty heavy though, and cool that they're opening up the metal genre to Iraqis, so maybe some other bands will come through(like political bands and stuff)

  • rock out.hit hard.turn up the marshalls

    to 10.The GOD of ROCK-NROLL

    WILL BLESS YOU!

  • you mean to 11. turn them up to 11...

  • These guys fucking rule! I hope to see them in London or Birgmingham perhaps? Who cares cause they kick fucking ass!

  • Arabic Metal revolution!!

  • fun and see their home country, I have only good memories of Iraq, I left Iraq when I was 11 years old and now I live in Sweden since then, this documentary takes me back to my old good life in Baghdad, I see my dreams in the these guys are, I am so happy for them, may God save the.

shame shame , the world's finest city, the city has destroyed, all these murderers and American and shit Islamists.

  • damn. what a lifestory..

    all respect guys

  • i have so much respect for these guys, they are so dedicated to playing music, that's the way it should be

  • irony is that they are refugees in america now...

  • aye not so brave preforming metal in america like everyone else

  • id like to be their groupie

  • its not for the fame , its for playing music

  • @6control9 yeah i think that is something that no one can disagree with, think about it: this breaks every fucking rule of the society they life in its sooo couragous

  • Metal bands don't want fame. Playing heavy metal during an invasion is metal as fuck.

  • true

  • Indeed!

  • this is awsome these guys are what rock is about

  • I totally agree, hopefully more musicians will find the resources and nerves to establish Metal in Iraq.

It's an ideal way of coping with the frustration and despair of every-day life in the area.

  • hhuuuuggggg.aa... GGHHRRUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!

  • Great Piece

    Tks for the upload

  • Hahaha! Suroosh rocks. Best opening line ever:

"This is risky. It's dangerous. People would say it's really fucking stupid for us to be doing this, but... erm... you know... heavy metal rules.'

    YEAH!!

  • and mayhem

    gotta love the black metal

  • thats the spirit! too bad their fucked up country don't let their people be how they really wanna be....

  • amen

  • esta en español

  • fuck manowar and the likes, those guys are the actual shit <3 if mere act of playing proper metal could be the grounds of getting yer head blown off (talking about extremes, ofc), it works wonders with the credibility of their lyrics

  • "i dont give a fuck about the news"

    awesome

  • what song is that through most of the video i love how they use that one instrement commonly found in middle east music it starts at like...2:33 so yeah just the name of that song would be nice, thanks

  • It is interesting to see something from "the unkown world".

There could be sunni, shiites, jews, christians, atheists and wahhibists there rockin out and I don't think anyone would notice.

  • see not all iraqies r teeriost

  • Fucking badass. Rock on.

  • this is cool, as for the racists who claim metal is for whites only, seriously go fuck yourselves. FUCK NEONAZIS

  • yea my drummer is an african american and hes 100% metal

  • I dislike their attitude but I have a great respect for what they are doing. Its wonderful to see that metal reaches so far across the world.

  • well i guess when all you see is war, occupation death, murder and corruption it makes you a hard person.

  • That combined with them getting death threats. It would make anyone cold

  • These guys are blowin' up the spot! get it? get it?

  • I think i saw some clips of them on youtube :o I dont have the time to watch this documentary at the time, favouriting to watch later on though!

  • Oh, forgot to say, i think its great to see metal all over the world, to see an Iraqi metal band gives me a joyful feeling, it doesnt matter where one is from, the music unites!

    \m/

  • aha madcunt

racist... but you know... yeah :D

  • The only people intitled to think the band is shit ,is people who've formed a band in a country like Iraq was under Saddam , and then continued through a fucking warzone . How do you practice and get better when your practice room's been bombed and your instruments blown to shit , then half the band have to escape the warzone etc etc . No they arnt the best band in the world , but is that the point ?

  • thank you so much for posting this!

  • do they even speak arabic?

  • yes, their songs are all in arabic, they just learned a foreign language.

  • In all honesty, I don't like them too much musically.

I can really appreciate the shit they had to go through to be able to play it, though, so props to them.

  • Hmm. actually, I just heard a couple of tracks off of a demo a friend found for me. These guys aren't bad, but they're not stellar either.

Once again, I really respect them for continuing their music, even though they have to go through so much shit.

  • And just for the record, I want to say don't get me wrong. It's not like I think these guys COMPLETELY suck.

I have a huge respect for them, and the fact that they persevere even though they all know a day could come where they die all because of the prejudice against their music. And I actually am from Iraq. Well, northern Iraq that is, not as bad as other areas of Iraq. I moved to Canada when I was very young.

  • I love this documentary! Keep it up guys and gals. Metal rules! SLAYERRRRRRRRRRRR!

A free and prosperous Iraq is near.

  • im saying there band is shit how dose that make me pompous

  • these guys rule. but i reckon they should grow their hair and just weear turbins or something.....then they dont have to hide what they are so much i guess.

  • i´ve seen this documentary on a short film festival and all i have to say is the people who say this guys sucks are compleatly fucked up, this guys are living in a place where music like heavy metal is worse than being on streets with a gun or granade in your hand and they need to hide for practice with a cheap equipment in a poor room with bombs dropping around and the only thing they wanna do is play heavy metal that is gorgous i think

  • wel i put you in a war and you play heavy metal.

  • You seem to miss the point. Doesn't fucking matter, they could be living in fucking Auschwitz, it wouldnt make their music any better. I respect them immensely for the struggle they go through but honestly it doesn't make them a better band.

  • Yes it does, there can't be any more hate inspired metal then this. Maybe you don't like it but i think you don't have any fucking motivation to do anything that makes sense in your life.

  • Again, missing the point. Musical quality has nothing to do with the people who make it. People here are commenting on the OBJECTIVE quality of the music they play, not on the people in the band.

  • What do you have to offer that qualifies you as an objective and unbiased critic of metal music?

  • screw you!

  • no thanks

  • well yea they suck and every goddamn iraqi metalhead knows that lol but u should check the other awesome iraqi and (true) metal bands , look for dog faced corpse , brutal impact and amargi .... etc

  • I haven't watched it all yet, but something I noticed was that they actually subtitled those in the band and not the interviewer.

    Oh wut?

Still, this seems fucking awesome, I can't wait to see it all!

  • Because, they answered in Arabic.

  • oh nvm I just realized they also subbed the English speaking lolwut.
