Saw my first STYX concert in '75 (8 times since) when Tommy Shaw first joined the band. That guy definetely has some talent. Dennis Deyoung is the only voice of STYX just as Steve Perry is to Journey! An excellent STYX live DVD is "Return To Paradise" and believe me, they are awesome and play all their great hits. Well worth the purchase!

Gowan's has a lousy tone to his vocals. He should not even attempt to sing something written by and immortalized by Dennis Deyoung. If you want to here great vocals don't waste your money on a fake Styx concert go to a Deyoung concert or buy his new CD 100 Years From Now!!!

(apthough they sold shed loads of records in america) and are now getting back to what they were in the early 70's a ROCK band, your judgement probably comes from the preconceptions you and alot of others might have about songs like 'babe' and 'mr roboto' which sold styx up the swanny, but manyof the elements of their music pre 1979 can easily be compared to purple hence probably why they were on the bill and hence why that is what makes up their playlist.

i was at the show with at least 3% of the deep purple fans, there wa about 43 of us! so don't feed me crap. Yes i have read the reviews on websites, most dp fans say that styx were second best.

I don't think so. Their stage show does tend to steal the show, but Deep Purple are far better musicians and Ian Gillan is a far better singer. The two bands are completely different and shouldn't have been on the same bill.

Ok I wasn't at the show but have seen both bands more times than I can remember. You can prefer one bands style over the other, or prefer one lead singer over the other, but it is rediculos to claim one group are better musicians. If you are talking pure musical talent STYX has played more differnt types of music so therefore I would say they would be the better musicians If I had to choose. Shaw has the voice to ply unplugged Gillian doesn't

I was at Birmingham amd Styx were awesome,I was very dissapointed with Purple,they seemed to be going through the motions..after about 20 minutes I was bored with Purple...sorry but I really wanted to enjoy them.
