  • Ya the 70s & 80s brought out a bulk of excellent music. They fired them all out, one after another. It would of been so hard keeping up with it all. The good thing now, is we can come on here and find those tunes and add'em to our favs. Ya, let it rock !.

  • "im born in smalll town"

  • Great song... Great Video....about a time in history we well never see again..what a good time it was back then, when life was so simple and easy.

  • @MrVegasJD don't be an idiot life was not SIMPLE or EASY in the 80s it was a difficult time globally and domestically. you idiot seems simpler because you were young and YOUR life was simpler

  • Das lied is so chilleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer (-:

  • I remember listening to this song on the school bus in 7th grade.. somebody brought a jambox and we would listen to it all the way home and sing every word. "Hold on to sixteen as long as you can.. changes come around real soon make us women and men." So true! What a great line.

  • Did the same stuff on our bus. Good times

  • wow, not my generation but this song defines someone i never knew that ive always wanted to

  • @ABoredGreaser I wasn't even born yet but I would of loved to live in this era... SO MANY GREAT SONGS!!!! I wasn't born until 4 years later but still... 70s would of been great... totally agree

  • @ABoredGreaser

This was 1982, I was a teenager then and I can confirm the 80s were better than the 70s...

  • @OsricWuscfrea Yeah, what I meant was, to go back to the 70s so I could be an adult and be able to go to some of his concerts.

  • @OsricWuscfrea Well then again I do kind of perfer 60s rock.

  • @ABoredGreaser

this came out in the 80s....and out of all the music that came out in the 70s and 80s, why this?

  • @deafened I never said when this song came out. You can listen to music and still want to be in a different decade than when that song came out. Like I really want to go to the 50s. I was just saying that I want to get away from this time, and the 70s is what popped into my head first.

  • @ABoredGreaser -- I grew up in the 70's and while I wouldn't trade that time of growing up, it had its share of Politics, Crap, Oppression, and all the Negatives, as does any time of growing up. --- Good or Bad, we can't control when we grow up... But we can control what we do with our time. -- Be Yourself... Live, Laugh, Cuss, Love, Fight -- Do it All!!! -- But don't waste your time being Bored. --- Whether you like this time or not... It's the only Time You Got!

  • @ABoredGreaser Thank goodness for YouTube!

  • @ABoredGreaser This was 80s not 70s.

  • @caprice6 I didn't say it was seventies. I said I want to go back to the 70s so I could live through when this music was alive.

  • @ABoredGreaser still give you thumbs up

  • Hook after hook in this song, simply amazing.

  • i like this song

  • love this song

  • just found out this was the #1 single the day I was born! Rock on!!!

  • Not really my generation but I do like this song when I was younger it was always on the radio

  • dont you 'bataba tabaaa' forget about meeee.... ill be the one, dancin' you know it babeey

  • This is part of the soundtrack of my life.

  • Ask him what he thinks about America now. Total Commie. Fuck John Cougar .... or Mellenkamp.....or whatever the fuck his name is now. I don't trust anyone who keeps changing their name. I can put myself in my own straightjacket Thank You!

  • Have you heard the song Our Country. He still seems like he likes your country from what I think. Maybe he just dosent like the governement.

  • America really sucks ass now. Canada is like the only decent place now. Although this time period really just sucks ass. And, for the record I was born and raised in America.

  • Two American Kids Growin Up....IN The Heart-Land

  • @miscapb Fly-Over-Country, really.

  • it's funny how advanced the editing on this video would have been in the 80's.

  • I like the flow of the song

  • Stop saying "Oh im 14" cause like everyone on youtube is that age. No one respects you for it they just say "Oh that kid is so cultured he listens to the most mainstream music of the 80's"

  • The 80's rule, plain and simple. And Mellencamp was one of the best artists of this wonderful decade of music.

  • I LOVE this song. i may be 14, but I can appreciate this awesome song!

  • @cassiegomoo I'm 14 too this song rules

  • @cassiegomoo I'm also 14. Agreed, awesome, awesome song.

  • @cassiegomoo woop saame :D

  • @cassiegomoo i agree with you there mate. i am 17, both my parents listen to all this music. love it so much!

  • @cassiegomoo same here

  • If it wasn't for yesterday's music, there would not be any influences to make todays music.

  • I may be only 22, but I can appreciate old songs. 1982 is before my time though. The song has a very addictive beat to it!!!!!!!!!

  • Why does the song change tune at 2:31?

  • there's a bridge into the next part

  • That's called a "Bridge". Lyrically and musically, Its designed to bring you the listener to the song's climax. It also provides a break from the pattern of the rest of the song. I guess it keeps it from getting monotonous...like most rap songs can get.

  • ehealthy222-Because it's awesome like that.

    XP

  • Good moral and great song

  • Love 80's ♥

    PattyLove

  • si si...ricordi di ragazza...bellissimo.

  • Haus, what does Thailand have to do with one of the best rock songs of all time?

  • hahaha Michlimania ya loony binner.

  • @floadsam

    Why?

  • Nice drum machine...until 2:30 when Kenny Aronoff does "THE" drum fill...best drummer JCM ever had...too bad he didn't appreciate it.

  • Has john quit his nasty cigarette habit?

  • His son speck has a group on facebook that if he gets 1,000,000 people to join he will quit smoking

  • goddamn beast.

  • wow jcm is amazing

  • if i ever have a son and daughter am calling jack and diane

  • this describes high school for me.. all his songs bring back some sort of memory for me

  • oh yeah life goes on his RIGHT good song brings back memories

  • Great song!

Is anyone else bothered by the slight audio lag on the video, or just me? I don't know, I'm kinda OCD like that XD

  • mellencamp ?

    ancestors dutch or german ?

  • we couldnt wait to grow up in the 80s and see the 90s now we look back and miss the 80s. we had no idea how good we had it back then. lol everything was cheaper and no thoughts about war no internet to play with. lol i miss them days.

  • tommyboy are true. Why we can't stay young the way Peter Pan did? Why, God (aka Goddie aka Gotti aka John Gotti)? Why the Designer has no soul, why the, uh, Creator such a doodle-pie?

    Why John Gotti?

  • yep is hell getting old. i turned 40 the other day. had my second house to burn down two weeks ago. starting over again is hell to do. and i never dreamed back in the 80s i would be losing so many bones in my future.lol i had my first and second hip replacements in my 20s about 60 years to soon id say. they invented a new bone disease to hit at that time. oh well life does go on. true that.

  • what are talking about ?

  • Dk-9:

    1. We should be allowed to stay 16** years old if we want to. Not everyone would.

    2. Yes, we would have little money but we would never get old.

    3. We could choose our date of death (no one could live beyond 74 years). We just take an overdose of something and depart, still looking 16).

    4. That's how the Designer aka God (or Gotti, if you will) should have designed things.

** or as young as 13, depending on individ choice, 13 being closer to Peter Pan's age

  • forever young phil collins?

  • That right, Dk. That right.

  • I THINK IT MAKES ME FEEL OLD LOL!

  • Ohh great!

  • On The Simpsons Wierd Al parodies the song entitle "Homer and Marge".

  • man, I miss my childhood.

  • Dude--I'm right with ya.

  • it reaches 48 year old men like me in england and truly rocks, my fav track is weakest moments by him, it really hurts so good!!

  • this song makes me so damn happi

    (:

  • Yeah, it's got a happy vibe, but the lyrics are really sad.. :(

At least it reminds me of way better times in life that feel as if they're never coming again.

  • ya i know

  • ...What the fuck are you guys talking about? It's a John Mellencamp song, not a fucking social issue.

    Goddamn.

  • pessimistic or not, 6 thumbs down means you're an idiot!

  • u are correct

  • u r correct

  • Just throwing this out there.. If humans suck so much, including you, couldn't you just sorta kill yerself, and stop atleast one human? A kind sugestion, don't flame me.

  • You're retarded lol...Humans don't suck, Atleast not all of us...

  • I agree. i hate ppl who are pessimistic like that.

  • haha ill agree in partial, were destroying a fuckload of habitats.

  • Was this John Mellencamp's breakthrough song? The song that launched his career.

  • The indian steal from us all the time, damn casinos

  • cant hold people accountable for the past whats done is done life goes on

  • fuc all who hav 2 sa

y somethng about blacs u deal wit that

  • Technically Americans Didnt take the land From the Native americans. There was no such things as americans Back then.

  • I have all ways admired american indians for not constantly complaineing like the blacks do, They have made the best of what there is.The blacks would do much better if they stoped crying and wanting something for nothing.

  • All I know is that I am white, I have never taken anyone's land. I have never killed a jew. I have never owned a slave. I live in America and I expect to have the same rights as everyone in America. The past is in the past. I am sure that no Native Americans who are alive today feel like they are fucked out of land. I doubt any jews today know what is like to be gassed. And I am Damn sure no blacks in America know what it is like to be slaves. We should forget the past and live for today.

  • Hey man, not trying to disrespect you, but how ignorant can you be to say no jews today know what its like to be gassed? News Flash!! There are still living survivors of the holacost, whose parents and siblings were killed in ovens and gas chambers. And maybe as a white person you havent done anything wrong, neither have I, but my ancestors have, so that is why we remember the past not "forget it and live for today" so we can make sure its not repeated. I would elaborate, but im out of space. =]

  • Well first of all if they were gassed, they are probably dead. Poor choice of words on my part. You are right though there are survivors of the Halocaust but you wouldn't know it because Jews don't complain about it like other ethnicities complain and try to get repairations for thier history that has nothing to do with them.

  • Totally get what your saying about people complaining, its too late now to change the past, but never forget that the reason some ethnicities are where they are now is because of the way the past happened. Like the blacks, we wouldnt allow them to get an education, once we did they didnt have the money to educate their children, so their children couldnt get good jobs and afford to educate their children, and the cycle goes on and on..some obviously broke away.
