  • Name of the soundtrack during the dogfight over Peal Harbor, until the end of the video, please?

  • So what if the directors were inaccurate with the performance of the planes, i still thought that this was a pretty good movie.

  • In performance fight Zero will lose. Diving fight Zero will lose. Head on fight Zero will lose. Climbing, Zero will lose. Formation fight Zero will lose. But this movie shows the Turning Fight that Zero will never lose. Seeing this movie showing the Ben Affleck's P40 dodging and swinging left to right and finally out turn the Zero is unbelievable. If he use Yak or Spitfire then this still acceptable but not in P40. I suggest want to see balance video, type, The Battle of Santa Cruz. 3D vids.

  • well its all bs a P40 could never outclimb an A6M

  • well Hollywood isnt known for accuracy >.>

  • i hate the way the americans potrayed the british in this

  • Zero will out turn P40 in low altitude. No WW2 plane can out turn Zero. Zero is highly maneuverable. How can P40 can aim and shoot those zeroes easily during chasing? I only know US is good at Boom and Zoom and Thatch Wave to win the air battle. not Dog fight.

  • @sarasein This is just a hollywood film.

  • @sarasein It's just a movie O_o

  • But please don't get me started on "The Memphis Belle," which is another national embarrassment to our nation and to those who spilled their bloods for our freedom!!!

  • Allow me to throw in my 2-cent worth of craps...

    1. The Battle of Brittian: The four-blade propeller Spitfires (equipped the two long cannons) weren't used...

    2. Pearl Harbor: The Japanese Zeros used during the attacks were ebony white, NOT DARK GREEN...And the P-40s sent up to meet the Japanese aircraft were equipped with four Brownin machine guns on the wings (along with two more on the noses)---NOT SIX MACHINE GUNS ON THE WINGS...

SUCH A FAILURE AND MONEY GREED ON HOLLYWOOD!!!

  • To people complaining about the innacuracy of this "hollywood bullshit", go watch Top Gun if you want real dogfights, but with modern aircrafts like the F-14

  • fuck this tard movie dickheads

  • all i gotta say is... HAMMER DOWN

  • Tora Tora had fucking ugly ass zeroes tbh

  • P40: Fast, flies best in straight lines, decent pilot protection, OK visibility, powerful armament (all .50 cal).

Zero: Fast, uncannily maneuverable in the hands of a good pilot (like these early-war chaps), no pilot protection, decent visibility, middling armament (after the 20mm ammo ran out, they had only 7.7 popguns in the cowl to rely on). All in all, an even trade.

  • They're the wrong mark of spits.....

  • Flying a P 40 and trying to dogfight an A6M Zero was another word for suicide.

The only thing that worked was a 'boom and zoom' fast diving attack.

    - but this is Hollywood, and they never let hard facts get in the way of a story.

  • Those of you that are bashing the movie for "historical innacuracy" RELAX!!! This is a movie and if you depend on movies for historical facts and information than you are a sorry lot. Read a book, sign up for a class, get off of your couch if you want history... I bet same people praise Spiderman and Batman movies,... oh better yet Terminator is accurate!!! GET A LIFE or loose it.

  • funny, in this movie the others planes are destroyed with a few shots and the american planes need a lot of shots to be destroyed...

  • @jhonhubb It's because Zeros were very light and highly vulnerable to just one shot. American planes were heavier and the tank fuel had an advanced technology: the tank fuel was made of gum, when it got a shot, the tank was sealed automatically.

  • @jhonhubb Watch the video National geographic generals at war the battle of midway 1 de 5

    for more references ...

ahh, read history books as well!

  • @jhonhubb Perhaps you should do your research before making unjustified comparisons.

  • The average life expectancy of a WWII fighter pilot was measured in weeks.

But holy fuck what a few weeks it would be! Modern dogfights are cool, but this... sometimes I wish we waited a while before moving on in technology.

  • theyshould remake battle of britan :P

  • P-40 win Zero in dogfight? fantasy.

  • @camomanias yes,in the attack one pilot out of the 2 was actually shot down but the producers didnt want to see the character killed.the p40 was a good airplane but the zero had the guns and mouenverability

  • @camomanias A P-40 downing a Zero is not fantasy, it happened. The Flying Tigers group in China had several victories over Zero's. On December 7, 1941, an Army pilot named Ken Taylor got airborne and downed a Zero. While the zero could out turn anything, it could not out dive most planes. If the American plane could get above the Zero and attack from above, it had a good chance of victory.

  • Hello again 240p

  • @Stianfred lol

  • I love the tower sign

  • Apparently the actual events of actual Pearl Harbor dogfights weren't at all important to the makers of this movie.

  • Hiroshima was some sweet payback

  • @BringBakRok I honestly cannot fathom how anyone could say that. What happened at Pearl was horrible, but it doesn't justify dropping an atomic bomb on a large civilian area. How you could say families being ripped apart by intense fires and pressure, having their shadows scorched to the ground was "sweet" is probably the most disgusting thing I've ever read. You're as bad as Hitler mate, honest.

  • @TheDocGoblin

I justify it by saving the lives of many people who would have had to invade

  • @BringBakRok So what if tokyo had dropped A bombs on say Housten and New York? How would you feel then? Would you still be able to justify it because it meant the japanese wouldn't of died invading?

  • @TheDocGoblin

Depends, in your situation are we training little girls to attack invasion troops with spears, and school teachers to strap bombs to themselves and jump in front of tanks? Or are we a bit less batshit in your alternate reality and know when we are beat?

  • @BringBakRok Are you trying to imply that the US marine corps would of had trouble with small girls armed with spears? To the extent it was not only ok, but in your words "sweet" to nuke them? lets for argument sake say America was in the same state as Japan prior to the bombs, would it be "sweet" for the japs to of dropped A bombs on civvie targets?

  • @TheDocGoblin Search Operation Downfall. Expected American casualties for a full invasion of Japan were up to 4 million, and Japanese up to 10 million.

It was war and there choice between a long hard struggle against a well intrenched insurgency and a chance at a quick end to the war.

  • Those green IJA A6Ms either hitched a ride on the carriers with the navy Zeros, or flew all the way from Kwajalien... :/

  • well the movie was made by michael bay of course it will have good special effects

  • Just think about how those crew members in the water would have felt if they actually saw allied planes shooting down japanese planes...

  • I think the Water rescued Rafe and his Spitfire.

  • isnt funny how the "baddies" can never shoot straight in these modern films.........

  • Was that a spitfire or a huricane? Im tempted to say spitfire..

  • @therealdaniels spitfire

  • @therealdaniels Spitfire....Only one of the most recogniseable aircraft around lol

  • Probably the WORST WWII movie by far, to my view. Talking on dogfights over the English Channel and over Pearl Harbor, this insane (and to a point absurd in certain details during action scenes) movie lacks the nobility of other films like "The Battle of Britain" and "Tora, Tora, Tora". Some may say "it´s not to make it as dull as life", but it is ridiculous, anyway.

The only good thing that it has, to my view, is that it uses real Zeros, not the typical T-6 Texan in make-up.

  • 歴史考証が不十分な箇所はたくさんあるが、戦闘シーンは圧巻だ。

  • Could somebody tell me- why these Spits were "RF" code???

If I know, "RF" code was in Polish 303 Squadron....

  • it's exactly like 300 xD inaccurate but the fight scenes are awesome

  • That impact in the sea at that speed would disintergrate the plane and kill him with it..

  • IKR but I still love it

  • what a load of hollywood shit

  • @corsagafa So true! This Shit is nothing but a huge Commercial for the Military!

  • @corsagafa man its a fucking movie

  • @FANOFWAR34 it was history but yes now its just a movie,i dont watch "fucking movies" cus my father told me dont watch porno or you will go blind

  • @corsagafa ur dumb

  • @FANOFWAR34 thankyou

  • during pearl harbor only two American planes were able to take off and fight back... but by the time they had shot down the last plane the Japs were already headed back to their fleet. I wonder about the mini-sub too...

  • even in 2011 it is still the best

  • even though this isnt the real thing spitfires are still badass

  • I love the scene where they play chicken with the Japanese planes. Gotta love that dogfighting. Almost reminds me of the Top gun movie.

  • at 9:48, yea i'd be scared to see a P-40with a shark mouth coming after me!

  • I think I'll stick to watching the 1969 Battle of Britain lol

  • You can tell who the experienced pilot is and who the novice is.

  • although the film is terribly inaccurate, fight scenes were incredibly awesome

  • @Ahamster1 yea like how the uss arizona got her bow blown off in the movie but in reality the ship was sunk midships by a bomb down the smoke stack

  • @CptnHardcore09 the arizona was hit by several bombs before the last one that sunk her. the bomb didnt go down a smoke stack though. It penetrated her forecastle and detonated in the forward magazine, hence the massive explosion.

  • @iLove2lax actually no because if you look at the real footage the explosion was more toward the stern

  • @Ahamster1 I think many of the pearl harbor ones were sooooo corny, but the European theatre ones were sweet!

  • @Ahamster1 nope

  • wooooo! I love this film, the dogfights scenes are incredible.

  • Actually, the P-40 could out turn the Zero in higher speed fights. But the Zero could out turn the P-40 in lower speed fights. The P-40 could take down almost any plane in a low altitude dogfight,

and had the highest dive speed of any WWII propellor driven plane - claims Clive Caldwell.

The P-40's only setback was it didn't gave a two-stage supercharger, had it been given that it would certainly have made tat much more difference in the war.

Here are two articles which focuses on the P-40's

  • Id have to say although P-40 was somewhat outclassed in certain catageories compared to the zero, but the p40 is absolutely one of the most beautiful planes of that time and among others too

  • Can't wait for Red Tails .. it gonna be so much better!

  • LOLOL theyre shouting comms to each other but none have thier mouthpieces over their mouth... how the hell can they be heard =D

  • @TheFunkhouser yeah, everyboy knows a mic only pics up the sound if you shout directly into it

  • No doubt the dogfight scenes are pretty good, but the film itself just never delivered.

  • Ohh my god......its so fucking stupid and not real dogfights.....oh man....fucking USA

  • Total stupid film!!!! Only copy of Dark Blue World......

  • @davidplza How can you say this?!

  • @MrCouchmen Because it is true.Did you watch Dark Blue World? Czech film about pilots in Battle of Britain. Pearl Harbor its only copy, and worste copy.In Dark Blue World are more realistic dogfights and there are more realistic planes....not too much are made on PC......and the story its same....Dark Blue World was made earlier than Pearl Harbor.

  • While this movie has the special effects, it's a piece of shit in terms of historical accuracy. Makes it look like the Japanese had about a thousand planes attacking Pearl. "Tora Tora Tora much better.

  • @doorsfan58 It also makes out the yanks were big players in the battle of Britain when infact they had 7 pilots who volunteered to fight in the battle... This film is the usual yank propaganda shit that they all seem to love over there.

  • @soulofthenorth idiot. American airmen ACTUALLY went to Britain to help you in the battle of Britain you are just a idiot.

  • @USSWISCONSIN64 Read my comment carefully before you call someone else a idiot. Seven American pilots (official figure) volunteered for the battle of Britain, hardly fucking helping us is it...

  • @soulofthenorth yet they still tried too.

  • @USSWISCONSIN64 ........Only 7 US pilots fought in the Battle of Britain. 2 were killed and they didn't shoot down a single german aircraft. To put this into perspective a small country like New Zealand had over 100 pilots that fought in the Battle of Britain (most foreign pilots after Poland)...I don't hear Kiwis boasting about helping win the Battle of Britain. The Eagle squadrons were not establised until after the Battle of Britain was over

  • @doorsfan58 maybe that's the point over 300 jap planes in pear thats a big load honestly

  • @doorsfan58 I think the point behind this scene was to show what it was like, not how it was. To someone there, it may have seemed "like the Japanese had about a thousand planes." There are some inaccuracies in the movie, but my point is still possible.

  • @doorsfan58 tousand? lol no try count it if u want lol :D but even 100 aircraft is much. and On Harbor attacked about 300? wel Japs had there 400 rdy planes at start. And ofc its innacuarte. If 2 american pilots flew up Japs would shot them down imidiately.

  • @TheXWitcher just so u know in the real battle 2 American pilots did get off the ground and they werent shot down. They also took down a few Japanese fighters. So go tell your terrible facts somewhere else.

  • swear the zeros 20mm cannons could do some serious damage to those p40s

  • Hmm highly um realistic movies

Sadly p40s were not better then zeros

And p40s were not loaded up with that much rounds at the most they had 20 seconds of fire

Trust me my grandfather loaded p40s at pearl harbor

  • Well p-51 is also basicly a dive bomber..

  • and they called us evil...

  • thanks to the americans indonesia's peace was restored from those two faced japanese shit!

  • Ever since I saw this movie when I was 10 I have always wanted to be a pilot.

  • WORST WAR MOVIE EVER SO MANY THINGS WRONG WITH THIS MOVIE. IF U WANT LOVE SCENES AND BORING TALK WATCH SEX AND THE CITY.

  • I found this video today. I am an extra in one of the airfield scenes shown on this video. It was hard work running back and forth over and over again. Just wish it was a better movie!

  • Lol.. it's impossibly for P-40 to keep up whit Zero.. Zero is twice faster not the mention other advances it had..

  • @NoobSnoopy Nope. Your wrong. The P-40 is capable to keep up with the Zero. Battle of Burma sees lots of actions from Hurricanes and P-40s sent by both Americans and British forces but the P-40 was coverted as the saver of Indochina. P-40s knocked out more than 92 planes in the 1943 period of Burma and China attacks from Japan. Every Chinese forces fighting in Canton, Shanghai Nanking and other areas can recognise the P-40 at 1st sight rather than the P-51 sent there later.

  • @MrLolx2u flying tigers i believe

  • What a crappy movie; mostly in comparison with "Tora, Tora, Tora"... And pretty much like Nicshooter, I only went to see it for the planes: not only because the Curtiss P-40 is my favourite WWII warbird, but also because this is the first movie I know that uses real Zeros, not the typical T-6 Texan with Mitsubishi A6M make-up. All the rest in the film is non-recyclable crap to my view...

  • As I get older, I begin to realize how historically inaccurate the movie is. However, this, Saving Private Ryan, Flyboys, The Hurt Locker & Causalties of War are the only war movies I watch and in January, "Red Tails" will become war movie #6 for me.

  • this is fun to watch but complete b.s.. in real world those 2 P40 would have been shot down right after they lift off. the jap pilots in pearl harbor attack were elites, the 2 p40 didnt stand a chance. hollywood movies.....

  • @Yperanthropoidsx In the "real world", there were 2 P-40's that got airborne at Pearl Harbor, piloted by Welch and Taylor. They shot down 7 Japs between them. So next time do some research!

  • @okedoke1234 before you say that to me, you should tell hollywood directors to do so. hollywood movies are notorious for not being historically accurate. given that they did shoot down 7 japs, the aircombat senario in this particular clip just does not cut it. How the hell did they dodge so many bullets from the zeros? They weren't even doing any evasive maneuvers! My point is that those directors should have done more research on making films that compliant to laws of physics and common sense.

  • @okedoke1234 i agree with what u said, but anyone who knows anything about aeronautics and air combat knows that planes r the most vulnerable during takeoffs and landings. So in "real world", those 2 pilots probably didn't take off with 6 japs on their tails. The japs had significant energy advantage, so they were more maneuverable and have control of the situation. And with an odd of 6 to 2 and the energy difference, it's like hitting a nail with a hammer, u just won't miss. :)

  • @Yperanthropoidsx it depends, it shows that those american pilots were really good. better than the "elites" of japan. facing more advance planes, yet they still manage to shoot some.

  • 1:44 HAMMER DOWN!

  • Those Spits are the wrong Mark. They shouldnt have cannons

  • 3.09 Soitfire down,I am hit I am hit, great and awesome, thank you Messerschmidt, thank you Adolf!

  • We did it! Im up!........thats what she said

  • The Chicken scene is so epic... I can't help but seeing it over and over XD

  • 8:35 PIII FORDIIIIS!!!!!!!!!1111ONEONE!!!!

  • Are those spitfires or Hawker Hurricanes?...they look almost the same..

  • 8:35 p-40sssssssssss

  • They need to make a remake of this movie:D

  • I GOT U U SON OF A BITCH me: FUCK YEAH! SEAKING

  • wat movie is this?

  • @yourmomwasherelol Pearl Harbor

  • ooooo im on ur ass now!!!

  • Big historical mistake in the dogfight scenes above Pearl Harbor: There also were B-17 Flying Fortresses in the skies,

  • typicaly for american films :) Unlimited ammo :) Spitfire had 60 rounds per barrel on cannon and it was around 10 seconds of fire. And unbeliveable, why japs can´t hit their fighters, if we suppose, so IJN pilots were one of the best pilots of the world (of course before Midway battle and other battles, where IN lost to many skilled crew ) . About maneuverability: Zero vs. P 40...P 40 had better vertical abilities and roll rating, not only horizontal turns wins dogfight.

  • 1.55 talking to his wingman without his mic on, and motorcycle sounds piped over Merlins?

  • i'd love to pilot one of those beauties...

  • This was not very realistic or historic...the P-40 wasn't as manuverable as a zero and the P-40s actually shot down either val dive bombers or kate Torpedo planes from behind.....at the time...but i really liked this. It made a point and in spades!

  • @norseleague Ya P40s wouldn't split up like that. In pairs they could take on Zeros (Flying Tigers AVG in China) but this makes for a dramatic action sequence heh.

  • 8:00 - 10:01 'Nuf said.

  • Despite the humongous loss of civilians at Hiroshima and Nagasaki the A-bombs actually saved lives. Millions of the Japanese civilians believed in the lies their government told them. Millions would've committed suicide. And the invasion would've cost American forces over 1 million casualties. And the civilians got a warning in advance

  • what's the soundtrack at 8:05?

  • must be so inspiring to be in the water and see friendly planes kicking the asses of the planes that were killing your friends

  • What i have readed neither Hiroshima or Nagasaki shared any sorta military places. It was all complete civilian. And why to care for the industrial complex when they coudln't even produce civilian needs during 1945.. not to mention the military stuff.

  • @NoobSnoopy I have no idea where you have read that, because history s of the war are pretty close to unanimous about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the later was a very important producer of weapons and aircraft. And they cared for the industrial complex, because in 1945 the japs were having their asses handed to them by the allies, so they needed weapons and planes to defend captured territory and they knew the allies would eventually invade the home islands so they would need defending too.

  • Fuck the japs!

  • Whats the name of the song at 08:07? Can't find it in the soundtrack.

  • Does this remind anyone else of the plot of the first blazing angels?

  • to be honest the ONLY reason I watched this movie was for the dogfights and pearl harbor attack. Not fuckin love scenes or boring talks.

  • @Nicshooter Me too. I got it on DVD and saw it full length only two times ever since.

  • @Nicshooter A Michael Bay film.......enough said. haha

  • @Nicshooter

    That's what i did!

  • @Nicshooter SAME REASON BRAH , XD

  • @Nicshooter Ya I agree, Michael Bay did the same shit on Transformers too. The movie should be nonstop robots fighting not romantic scenes.

  • Is the battle of britian bit in pearl harbour the reason why many americans keep yelling on youtube that the US won the battle of britain for the UK. Because if any of you imbeciles think that, there were only seven american pilots who volunterred to serve in the RAF during the Battle of Britain. Only seven, and no, the pilots werent all flying mustangs and what not. They were in Spitfires and Hurricanes.

  • @shoter111 You're as dumb as them if you really believe there were 7 American pilots in the battle for Britian. There were in fact hundreds. There were 7 recognised American RAF pilots during the summer of 1940.Many, many more were registered as Canadian to avoid penalties. Between June 1940 and December 1941,several hundred Americans volunteered to join the RAF.The best known are the fighter pilots, but others served in Bomber Command as pilots, navigators and air gunners.Stop being ungreatful!

  • @Dimaggio369 There were not infact hundreds. There were 88 canadian pilots in the battle of britain so I don't know where the hundreds you talk of have come from. So please don't insult my intelligence when you yourself have spoken bullshit. And im sure many Americans did volunteer to serve in bomber command, which is not what my original point was about. Why am I being ungrateful? Im simply sick and tired of the bullshit american rhetoric that they, some how, won the battle of britain

  • @shoter111 The problem came from the fact that only the 10 US pilots had been 'official'. The vast majority had crossed the border into Canada and enlisted via Canada. Not all had been counted as "Canadians" but rather 'no name' It's impossible to know just how many US pilots fought in the battle of Britain.

  • @shoter111 I agree with your overall point, but you got some things wrong and don't give credit to lend lease. There had been 10 US pilots with an entire squadron forming prior to the US's official entry into the war who had been the highest scoring group of pilots until they merged with the US army airforce in 1942. The primary assistance during the battle of Britain was in aircraft, AA, and naval assets rather than manpower.

  • @XxxSakura101 Let's not forget that lend lease, while invaluable later in the war, did practically bankrupt Britain. It's impact was, however, negligible during the Summer of 1940.

As a scholar of the Battle of Britain, I would be interested to know where you sourced the "10 US pilots...who had been the highest scoring group" from. Interestingly enough, the Spits in this clip all carry the code letters 'RF' which denote the unit that actually was the highest claiming squadron - 303 (Polish).

  • Crap film. Merlin sounds??? Lead actor went on to fly P 40's, then B 25's. Spare me.

  • sheeples pretty biased comments here. You cant be more retarded.

  • This movie did suck.

  • If they could have filled the rest of this movie in with scenes like this, I would like it. But instead, its a movie that I found boring and full of garbage filled with a few minutes of awesome historical scenes and dogfights..

  • @MK19MODIII Problem is that the dogfighting scenes are even a little awkward especially that manuever that makes Danny and Rafe use over Pearl to make the Zeroes crash into each other was full of BS.

  • @warwatcher91 I agree entirely, also, I dont ever recall any dogfight stories that were that low in altitude over the English Channel.. There is certainly a great deal of "poetic license" used in this movie, typical of Spielberg films. I do however enjoy watching airplanes fly and can get past the BS just enough to enjoy the flying scenes, EVEN though I know there is alot of Hollywood crap influencing it.

  • thumbs up if u would have had a feeling of relief and hope by seeing two aces P-40 pilots shooting down japanese plane during that day at pearl harbor!!!

  • also @fkerpants dude the p40 was more armored than the zero

  • @fkerpants dude in the fight to pilots welch and taylor got in to the air ansd shot down the rest of the japs

  • thats the reason the brits almost lost battle of britain

  • while rafe was being shot at by a german pilot why didnt the others try to help him

  • @TANCARDINAL70 likely because they busy being shot at them selves.

  • @MikiMetal93 I didn't understand even half of what you just said but im giving you a thumbs up anyway!

  • Colliding enemy planes together and modeling too close to Top Gun... What a load of copycat BS. Give us a reason why Kenneth Taylor (one of the guys who actually flew at PH) called this trash.

  • @KPsaetisfy Look up George Welch and Kenneth Taylor for the two pilots. There were numerous others who go airborne as well.

As for tactics, I refer you to fighter combat by Robert Shaw, and numerous other historical sources you can find on the web.

  • 5:56 really bad mistake zero on your six don't climb!

  • his "fellow pilots" are not very helpful...

  • the flying tigers ripped japanese aircraft to peices using the p 40, and it was a simple tactic, fly straight at them, the heavily armoured p 40 could withstand the japanese fire but the jap planes couldn't withstand the p40's fire, and if they get on your tail just use the p 40's weight to dive away, and then once the americans made planes like the p 47thunderbolt and the f6f hellcat that had the perfomance to match without sacrificing armour and firepower..... it was all over

  • @daringalin True, any plane can kill Zero. The Buffalo in Malaya also kill some. The point of argument is, the way that Zeroes are killed is not accurate. P40 shall kill Zero by boom and zoom tactics u know...dive, burst and climb. Or head on, or Thatch Wave. Not by winning the turning fight, shaking left to right to dodge Zero. Thats what this film should show. BTW the Flying Tiger fight mostly Ki27, Ki43,Ki61 and other J Army plane. Zero is J Navy fighter, not really involve in Burma-China.
