I've been dealing with this for 3 years now & it was definitely brought on by my intense mental rituals. For me it's from my OCD and perfectionism. I too am back on Zoloft after trying to deal with this without meds. They make life livable. I don't freak out as much when I think about existing or if things are real. I do okay but I would give anything to get rid of this. I know why this happened & I'm trying to fix it. It was nice to see your videos & hope you are doing as well as you can. Adam
it's amazing how out of no where it is right? I hope you're doing okay...as okay as you can be, and I hope it goes away as quickly as it came. (i hope the same thing for me lol).
I dont actually have derealization so my outside world looks like it should, its my sense of self thats been effected...so its all pretty much internal. I'm sorry your going through it, and my dad actually had it when he was in college for a little over a year. what helped him was trying to ignore it and almost accepting it. it feeds off of anxiety and thats most likely what causes it as well. So if you stop feeding it, it is more likely to die off. I know thats...
so difficult because its such a scary experience, but if you try to at all that's what worked for my dad. eventually it went away. If you can't get rid of the anxiety, perhaps medicine such as anti-anxiety or anti-depressants may work. They worked for me to help calm my anxiety, which has been such a relief.
It's definitely curable...and i wish you the best of luck.
taking zoloft really helped with the anxiety aspect of it, and from there, i was able to think about it less. and that makes such a huge difference. the less pull it has on you the less severe it is. I found that anxiety makes you think about it gives it which gives it so much more power and creates even more anxiety...in order to break that cycle, for me, medicine was the only route. It can be done without it, but in my case, my anxiety was so bad it would have been almost...
...cruel to not let myself take it. Derealization is so often (if not always) connected with anxiety--as the cause, and result, and if that is the case for you, than it may be a good idea to see a psychiatrist and find out what they think is the best route for you to take. I wish you the best of luck.
Really cool you updated! Good to hear it. What are some of the things that helped you? Was there sort of a turning point at all when things started to get better? I will have to private message you about Zoloft. I'm always glad to see updates.
