@paulsbreakfast Why do you care about his review of "ONE FIFTY FOUR." He already told you he doesn't get it. "When he looked through the window for the thousandth time, he saw a black horse entangled in a barbed wire fence. The more he struggled, the more he strangled. Time passed painfully. Time passed painfully. Time passed PAIN FULLY!" You think this bald dude he doesn't even get 1-5-4 is going to comprehend that? Dig it yourself D.IY.
I mean, saying "Wire - One Fifty Four" is like hearing somebody say: "Led Zepplin! He's pretty good." So who are you? Who cares. I will listen to the music and decide for myself. Basically, your review means ZERO. Cause who cares about you and your 'classic album review.' LOSER. ZERO. Do something yourself instead of talking about what other people do.
We don't care about you & your channel. Ego running too loud. Just want to hear about new Wire lp. Respect on "Pink Flag" easy 10. But we who know already know. that. "One fifty four" ? it's ONE-FIVE-FOUR idiot!!! as in one-four-five blues progression flipped... ok. So you don't like the latest wire album,. Your "One Fifty Four" remark gives perspective on you. Credibility zero after that FAIL remark. Haven't heard the album. So I will hear it and judge myself. For now, you are judged FAIL
i couldn't agree more with this review, it's a really dull album. At their best wire songs were like sculptures, all weird shapes and texture. This is just a big slab of lazy nothingness.
Yeah, I dunno. This reviewer (I don't know who he is, but I know Wire, and they are very, very great) spends a lot of words on compression and effects and etc. In fact, this is a very good Wire record, their best in a while. It's not Pink Flag--I agree with the bald guy on this--but it's better than a good portion of other records by newer bands. A "five"--out of "ten," I suppose? No. It's more like a 7 or 8. Despite the (ahem) compression.
I think this guy will revalue this album. Like Magazine was too quickly put down by rock critics at the time. Years later, no critic was found not to like Magazine. This album does the same. It all fits together. 35 yrs of knowledge how to make music and sounds, Wire fabricated a better album than it appears at first. Theneedledrop should let the music work for him. It's NOT 'Indie rock'. It's Wire. Understand the vibes and the atmosphere. So no chewing gum quickies here, mister.
Good review, as it starts with Pink Flag being a 10. I have never stopped listening to this album since I say Wire in London in about 1978 and have wondered if it was just me that raves and froths over this.
After a long gap (and I mean long), I am back onto Wire after seeing them in Sydney a few weeks ago. The 30+ years melted away! Haven't checked out the album yet, but will soon.
"Bad Worn Thing", is sung by Graham Lewis, and (rather obviously) NOT Colin Newman. Rather emphatically delivered by Mr. Lewis, I might add. To describe light use of chorus effect by an artist such as Wire a obnoxious, is, in itself ... At any rate, RBT is a rich and pastoral offering, deepening the bands' full circle forum in form.
This album marks a return to Wire's pinnacle, it is fantastic, and matey, you know fuckall about fuckall especially if you think Colin Newman sings Bad Worn Thing. Go away.
You are talking bollocks this is a fantastic album and I can not fault the production ,what the fu"k are you talking about. Take your head out of your ass and listen to it properly ;-)
what a shite review - he's knows fuckall about this band (it's all trouser and haricuts with this guy) take it from someone who's been there from the very begining this is a good album with some killer tracks.
I'm a huge Wire fan and have been looking forward to this album for a long time (well, since the mp3 release of 'Red Barked Tree'), but I was hoping for something that, well, isn't what it is. I don't actually have the album yet, but I just listened to the samples on Pinkflag dot com and I was startled and thoroughly disappointed. As for their two latest releases, I LOVE R&B 3 (amazing 4 tracks, perfect in my opinion); O 47 has some very weak spots but it grew on me, but I don't know about RBT
@KingOfUm I share your view on Object 47 and R&B 3 (exactly the same opinion). I think, and am almost shure you will change your opinion on RBT. It's SO much better than Object 47.
@Devito46 I got your other comment on the song 'Bad Worn Thing', and I'm glad you're not a fan who hates anyone who has a negative opinion (you're a true fan, in my opinion); anyway, O47 sounds, to me, way too much like a Githead album. I'll say right now that I really don't like Githead, had their first EP and got tired of it after 2 months, haven't listened to it since. I think my main complaint about Wire's latest works is the absence of Bruce Gilbert.
@KingOfUm Nice to read your comments and your Wire uploads on YouTube. Githead is a band that I still have to get into. Do you actually like the soloworks of Gilbert & Lewis ? And from Graham Lewis ? I think his cooperation with Omala is great. I think RBT is a well put together album. Good arrangements and follow up in songs. But may be I'm not that objective. Music is a subjective artform anyway. ;-) I will follow your musictaste and may be find something new and interesting.
@Devito46 Thanks for the kind words. I actually LOVE the works of Lewis and Gilbert; I have almost all of their additional solo pieces, as well as the Dome works, and I think it's fantastic what they did for the realm of experimental music. The He Said Omala album is really outstanding I think, along with the Hox album. I have to say that RBT is growing on me, despite a few songs that still seem really weak. My favorites are Clay, Bad Worn Thing, and Moreover.
@Devito46 You sound pretty condescendant to me. TheNeedleDrop is just reviewing albums, these are his points of view, that's what rock critics are doing, nothing more, nothing less. And there are discussions on what he reviews, just maybe not concerning Wire and Foals. On my part, I do believe the last LCD Soundsystem album is pretty overrated, but TheNeedleDrop just love it, it doesn't stop me from watching his videos. I discovered Women thru here, so I come back.
Well...this guy is making remarks as if he doesn´t know the sound of Wire at all. I just stated that. And suggested that he should listen to those albums (again).
One more thing. I like the way you present your reviews. But some one who can´t appreciate the latest Foals and the latest Wire ?
Sorry, isn´t of any value to my music taste.
Wish you good luck with other review viewers...or when I look at the comments, with hardly any discussions on WHAT you review, I must say gimmick fans of yours.
You missed something. The value of Red Barked Tree. You have the ´classic Wire´ probably read about it in books. Guitar ´overmodulation´ Start listening to Wire albums and notice that it´s ALWAYS there, and isn´t at, for exampel, the last song on the album.
Just play it a few more times and start picking up on the songwriting and the atmosphere ofthe album except just labeling it as a supermarket product (indie rock, shoe gaze etc)
Wire rarely sounds the same from album to album, they have never wanted to repeat themselves, and this album, with what I think are great, layered, almost shoegaze like guitar sounds, is pretty cool for them. I'm a huge Wire fan, and have just about every solo project any of the members has been involved in. Their has been 30 years of progression to this point, lets not slam it for not being Pink Flag. I'm glad Wire hasn't yet tried to cash in on making another PF.
Giving a 5/10 to an album created by one of your favorite bands (i would say...) makes us see how impartial you are... You are a better journalist than what i would have ever expected mr. Fantano!!!
i just flicked down through the comments and decided maybe its time for someone to give an opinion on the album reviewed??? maybe???? ok, i wil. i love it. i didnt like object 47 but i love this. best thing theyve done since the read and burn series. great record one of the true great bands of my lifetime.
@VegetableHero They thought it was pretty crazy when they saw me teleport into my room, for sure. Now they're calling at all hours of the night saying, "Yo, bro, teach me how to teleport." I'm all like, "nah!"
hey man haven't said anything to you in a while lol. well since i was there before you had 2k subs, i think i can make a request hahaha. you dont have to review it in a video, but i just want your professional opinion lol. GDP- Succumb. it's the first video if you youtube it. i think you'd dig it a lot. so yeah, get on that if you want. lemme know how it goes.
hey if you ever get the chance could you review the new Foster The People single "Helena Beat"? see watcha think? I really really enjoyed their single "pumped up kicks" from last year, and i like this track a little less but still find it to be a totally worthwhile listen
You are looking a little fuzzy indeed, but at least your audio seems pretty good lately. Always had that "omnidirectional mic picking up too much ambient sound" touch before. Now it's reasonably dry, as it should be.
When I first heard the track "Two Minutes", I knew they were of course echoing their earlier "punk" sound, but with songs like "Please Take" and "Now Was", there is a more post-punk sound, which I really liked because it sounded like a lot of music from the 80s- I would give it a 7/10.
I went on TND.com and I couldn't find the forum...is there a link I'm missing?
Dude an amazing band called graveyard is supposed to have a new album out this spring. If you wanna hear some old stuff listen to "satan's finest" or submarine blues" or really anything off their first record its awesome. I don't know what the new one is called though
I flat out HATE it. The songwriting is sooo boring to me. Like you said, the lyrics, production, and the effects all just seem horid. But I guess the first track is mediocre. But that's the only song I could really listen to. 2 minutes is annoying..
NIce review. I need to go back to the wire's pink flag i guess. Ive been slack lately on listening to the things you suggest. Obsessed with glasser and twin shadows right now, not listening to much else.
Yo Anthony I dont know shit about Wire, but if you say that "Pink Flag" is a 10 Im buying (downloading!) that album right now! By the way there is another track from that Fashawn mixtape with Common and John Legend called "Strange Fruit"
@paulsbreakfast Why do you care about his review of "ONE FIFTY FOUR." He already told you he doesn't get it. Review Autre Ne Veut's self titled album or Forest Swords Dagger Paths. Anything off the Olde English Spelling Bee label really.

NIce review. I need to go back to the wire's pink flag i guess. Ive been slack lately on listening to the things you suggest. Obsessed with glasser and twin shadows right now, not listening to much else.
