Haha. Aircraft often fly specific routes (vectors). When other aircraft fly that same vector, the previous contrails will have moved from that postion by the winds aloft. So you, dummy, may notice parallel contrails. Aircraft traveling different directions may produce a "grid" pattern.

2. Anything dispersed at that high altitude will take so long to descend that it will be far east before it reaches ground.

I don't deny that persistent contrails exists, i do question that these persistent contrails would just in a day, show up over my town in hundreds, when i never have encountered that before. And i would question why trails starts in one spot, and stops in another, not fade away due to different levels of moist or height. Science has really come up with these ideas. It's called Stratospheric sulfate aerosols. (well i admit, i do read) =)

And there are patents that prove this.

Ever since planes have been flying at high altitudes (past 60 years), they have been leaving ALL sorts of CONtrails based on weather conditions -- persitent, short, thin, wide, AND EVEN INTERMITTENT ones.

It is not unheard of for a plane not creating a contrail to suddenly fly through a small patch of sky that has the right conditions for vapor contrails, then fly out of that patch, thus leaving an intermittent trail (exactly like as shown here.)

in the US daily, there is around 30,000+ commercial flights flying to hundreds of destinations. do u really think that these flightpaths never cross anothers? they fly on jetways from navaid to navaid. these jetways intersect all over the map. this is why u see criss crosses and such. air trafic is busy man, it would be impossible to manage the traffic so it would never cross another airway. just some basic aviation knowledge is needed for this one. hope that helps. peace

Temperature and humidity have to be within 5 degrees to have some persistance. This is per a career military weatherman I know. When showing him some trails in the sky, he could not answer why they persisted because his upper air plots would not allow for such formations.

better than half the time the air above you is right for persistent contrails. sometimes the conditions are higher, other times sometimes lower. ie sometimes the contidions are right for them at 15 thousand feet sometimes they're right at 25. planes travel at a wide variety of altitudes. the chance that a plane somewhere above you is in the right conditions for persistent contrails, is significant. you mustn't try to apply a rigid set of attributes to something as variable as the atmosphere.
