The Zaku II only uses machine guns and bazookas along with the heat hawk, which is less effective and less cost productive. Look it up. It's everywhere.

Although it's non-canon, I remember hearing that Char's Zaku was confirmed via Gundam Evolve to be superior by far to a Rick Dias, to the point Char's combat data from the One Year War OWNED Zeta Char in his Red Dias.
@KatomaMundara kinda but i assume it was char ability. in gundam z char had conflict witch i believed why he was holding back a lot of his skill, that evolve had himself vs his one year war counterpart showing that he lost his edge. he gain it back once he find his resolved in char counter attack
I've noticed that people seem to equating the victory to who has the better armoured/more powerful MS. No matter how powerful a weapon, it still comes down to the skill and ability of the pilot. The Zaku, even though it's a death-trap on legs in comparison to The O, Char is the better skilled pilot with the faster machine, if anything, he could fly rings around The O which looks more based for space-combat then for gravity environments.
That's not completely wrong seeing as how that is how it usually turns out in history (the peasant class w/ rifles vs the warrior class in Japan for example; you can't say the samurai are less skilled there, can you?). Animation is different I guess.
Rifles at the time were actually pretty inferior to bows even, with no close combat presense to speak of, and the samurai had cavalry which was superior to just about everything.
But your point is well taken, it was Niccolò Machiavelli that said something along the lines of, "Wars arnt won with gold", or in this case, superior mobile suits. But with "Good Soliders". If a pilot of sufficenct genius existed, he could win any fight. No such person does exist in Gundam of course.
About the cavalry: contrary to popular belief, horses usually only provided transportation. Very few battles involve breaking through with cavalry. In the 16th century, Europe was well-into the world stage. Maybe the rifles weren't powerful, but if they were enough to obsolete European cavalry, I'd say they should be pretty effective.
I was wrong on few things, though. It seems that the samurai also favored rifles at the time, but the Meiji Restoration took place during the 19th century 0_0
You obviously never heard of Gundam Sentinel have you? Where the Aces of the New Desides wondered if skills even mattered anymore against a superior mobile suit. Also the O is heavily armored in addition to having great mobility. I doubt the Zakus machine gun could do anything against it. He would still need his gegloog. After all didn't he switch to that to keep up with amuro's rising skill since the zaku wouldn't cut it anymore.
first of all Char is a survivor, he fought the O and the Quebly single handedly, Scirroco and Haman were strong newtypes. If it was just Char and Scirroco there's no way Scirroco would stand a chance, no matter what mobile suit
Thing is, during a (non-canon) EVOLVE episode, Char in his Rick Dias had a fight against a Data-copy based on actual combat data of himself and his Zaku II from the OYW. His Zaku II completely humiliated him and his Dias and he had to order the test off, then shot the Argama.
In essence, it's possible very quite so that Char in his Zak could stand up Vs The O. Of course, this is just theory.
And The O was as good in armor as the Gundam. I will admit it's thick, but...
It's only roughly 2x as much as the Gundam's Shield. And being a smaller suit and less thick, arguably it's faster/more maneuverable than The O.
I dun know, it comes down to skill and close Range. If Char could completely out maneuver Scirocco? Yeah he'd stand a damn good chance if he avoided all the hidden arms.

It's the other way around.
First, Scirocco is a much stronger Newtype than Char.
You can't really beat the O with a Zaku (too outdated)
If the Hyaku Shiki was trashed in the fight against the O, what makes you think that the Zaku would have a better chance.
