Hi Gary, hows it going I hope good. Ive put stuff in vintage MX us, but to no avail. all the guys in there think thier stuff is worth more than it is. I was gonna put an ad in cycle trader, I was gonna put a TS type ignition in a TM, and then it would run better. and then see what happen's. hope thing's are good where you are. Take it easy ok. Kirk.
@kirkconway hello kirk ? the best way to find a tm400 is to check local free adds eg ORANGE COUNTY RECYCLER thats where mine came from also put a add inthe local papers !!! some people are comming up a bit tight for money nowadys and will sell that old dirt bike they have stashed away eg perhaps a tm400j ! 1972 !!!!
@kirkconway KIRK PUT A ADD IN THE RECYCLER ! THATS WHERE THIS BIKE CAME FROM BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD FRAME ON IT ! THE FRAME ARE MADE OF LIQUISH LOL BUT GREAT FUN TO RIDE ! I HAVE A GREEVES EAST COASTER HERE FROM KENTUCKY !
@kirkconway kirk have you tried a free adds magazine write your looking for dead or working old suzukis and also join the tm news groups thre are a lot of guys with tm,s in there !
@illbeda YES ITS LIVELY MASSIVE PISTON IN THERE BUT I RAN IT HEAVY ON OIL
IT CAME FROM HUNTINGTON BEACH LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA ONE OWNER FROM NEW BUT HE PLAYED HELL WITH IT HE CUT THE FRAME BUT I HAVE A 2ND BIKE 1972 TM400 WITH A GOOD FRAME TO COPY
@illbeda i will get her out and take a slow walk around the bike (working on a 1970 380 greeves griffon) at the mo) the feel of the tm400r to ride is the bike wallows in the middle and suspention is of no dampening but the engine has no flywheel weight so you have to blip the throttle to get it off the mark but the performance is strong and warrented a better cycle.
yes i do now ;-) tried a maico at glen helen it went well but tuned to rev to high not pull maicos are better tuned to pull torque the TM400 is quick i could tell by the throttle response at rest its quick!
no just a lot of oil ;-) its the first time its been started since it came back from the usa and i had synthetic oil might have been veg oil hence so it dosent sieze up but barks well.
How would bad crank seals cause it to smoke? It is smoking too much though, although I remember these old zukis did smoke alot. Did you use the "little of this, little of that" mixing ration?
the fisrst time i ever started it asnd ther was a massive amount of residual oil in the engine it runs cleaner now though ! i also have a rm465 thats beast !

Hi Gary, its kirk,
Yea Im wanting to get a72 TM 400 in the yellow color.
Yea the frames were ok, but you can always get betrwer shock's and fork spring's for it.
yea they are really something,
I think alot better than the 73, 74's even.
suzuki toned the powrband down a bit , but then it lost it's character.
really neat bike's though.

Looks like the oil seals are going, other than that it seems to run good, except for not using the clutch to slow down and stop,

wot do people mean wen they say works bikes
hurryingj 2 years ago
A 'works" bike is a factory backed bike. What the factory racers ride.
"works" meaning it is loaded with exotic metals and parts that aren't available to the public

bad seals would let transmission oil into the engine and make it smoke.

is that the 40 or post 73 , 35bhp model?
The ignition is very strange on these, electronic advance goes all over the place, even effected by the moon!
Still beutiful bike, saw one for sale for £3000 at andy storey racing.
He seems expensive, he wanted over £1000 for a tired unrestored yz250 from 1983!

aslways tell works yz,s but the top of the forks are knurled ! for the clamps ! and they have alloy tanks ! all works bikes !
