"levar" is like "to take" : so in this part of the song's letter she hopes that their children have sucess on school for they don´t have to work hardly at salines (like her).

Let your heart translate the music of this tremendous Elis Regina performance, but the translations here below help on this touching Milton Nascimento song about the workers in the salt mines.
Elis Regina Composition: Milton Nascimento Working the salt is love is the sweat that leaves me I will live singing day so hot that it makes Man seeking child see shells on the sea Work all day to take people's life Water becomes salt in saline there Who decreased seawater Water facing the sun there in saline Burning sun that will burn up
Brazilian "super-diva" Elis Regina, accompanied by her then husband pianist/arranger Cesar Camargo Mariano, singing Milton Nascimento's classic about the workers in the Brazilian salt pits: "Canção do Sal" (Song of the Salt). Luisao Maia on bass and Paulino Braga on drums. Haunting and beautiful. Elis & Cesar are the parents of the Latin Grammy-winning diva: Maria Rita.
I'm glad you love her music, and that you can understand a lot of what she says, but, just for your information, she sings in portuguese (wich is the language of her home country: Brazil)
@LudimilaLou Certamente, Lu! Eu tenho 24 anos e comecei a amar Elis esse ano! Eu ouço to-dos os dias! Ela me dá uma energia e fala verdades como ngm! Surreal demais :]
I regret that I don't understand Potugues. But the more I listen, the more I love this music and of course the magnificent Elis Regina who brought it to life. I'm sorry she is no longer with us, such a great talent.RIP.
I feel sorry for you. All the songs she sang ( its that right?) have a hugh lesson for life. She was someone especial. If you want to, just tell what song you like the most and I can try to translate to you.
Hi! I'm a new convert to Queen Elis. I've always wondered about the tastes of other brazillian jazz fans. What are your literary interests if you don't mind? And were you exposed to classical music at an early age? I'm trying to establish a pattern in aesthetic developement. I've only just discovered the Brazillian music scene and had no idea that it went far beyond Sergio Mendez and brazil 66. I'm familiiar Jobim an astrid and a few of their contemporaries but Elis Regina is well....magic?
Hi, fingerfries! Im sorry for not having replied your gentle comment so far. Im kind of absent-minded, and I always forget to regularly check e-mails and similar things. Im glad you discovered Elis Regina and other talents related to MPB (Música Popular Brasileira or Brazilian Popular Music). If you check on my channel youll see that my music taste is quite comprehensive and there are lots of examples of it. I think you may find some good stuff related to MPB there.
Elis Regina... Yes, magic is a good word to define her art. Personally, she was a very troubled woman. But, as an artist she could deliver little perfect moments to the ones capable to recognize and appreciate it. Yes, I was exposed to good music since I was little. My mother used to play the piano and, of course, Ive heard a lot of classical music since then.
However, to simplify things about music in general, Ill merely repeat Jobims words: There are only two types of music in the world. Good music and bad music. He wasnt called genius without a reason. Well, you deserved an answer in three parts, no less. Of course, Im not fluent in English, but as we say in Portuguese, Eu quebro o galho (I break the branch) so, if you need something and the idiom is a problem, Ill be glad to help you if I can.
I know what you are feeling. Been born in Brasil some 40 years ago, been raised under those songs so diverse and intense, I still feel surprised about that music too.
Minas Gerais (North of Rio de Janeiro) produced a lot of music too. The style was different though. While the rest of Brazil was pretty much into the Samba/bossa nova wave, Minas was waiking up for the next step of the Brazilian popular music.
Maybe I'm lost, forgive me, but I still remember all of it.
Thats an other interesting thing about the music culture In Brazil. Between the 50's and the 70's the best music produced in our country is exactly the same music played in the radio and in the television shows. All this musicians are very popular in for every public... Besides the fact that in our days the things have severely changed i think thous facts influenced very much the taste of brazilian public and musicians... (sorry for the bad english, if you didn't understand, please tell me)
Don't worry I understood perfectly and thank you for explaining. I often have wondered if the cultural influence of Bossa Nova helped to create revolution within your country or if revolution helped to form Brazillian music. I think it's probably a bit of both don't you? Forgive MY English if I did not express myself adequately please. Brazillians or bilingual people by the way can do no wrong in my opinion so never apologize for being able to speak 2 languages when I can't master one.
please, can someone write translation for this song

This song is haunting in parts and then it melodically picks up and dances in the sun. This is why I love this music.
