I played a few 1v1 against Billox back in the day. I was none too shabby as I had my own private ISDN line but Billox would own me every time. Own and leave bruises. Awsome, awsone player.
The exhibition against Thresh did him no justice at all.
Must watch for Q2 fans... the tactics of Thresh constantly hitting bellox at the rocket launcher and railgun spawn points along with his high ground and chaingun play to give damage against bellox while bellox would miss his shots with the rockets/railgun. The understanding and prediction of both players was astounding, though Thresh seemed more prepared to attack at item points and use items less common as they are less gaurded: while picking up drops of better weapons from bellox. Well played.
Dude 3rd person views sucks for FPS game videos. We want to see the game from the perspective we play from. Why ever make a 3rd person video? Sucks...
I understand how you feel (even if I don't entirely agree)... but in this case, the first person demo was broken beyond repair (believe me I and others tried, but the data just wasn't there) so the choices were 3rd person or nothing.
@JayDay111 I've got a handful which were from tournament play (like this one) , all but this one were Quake1. The Q1 ones do have first person for at least part of the match. But you're right, there aren't many at all. I think I have four total.
Well hm, I thought he did but wikipedia says he wasn't a cofounder. He definitely was one of the main guys there. Now he owns Raptr. He's a gogetter I guess lolz.
I remember this! i was clanned with billox at that time (rsc) how he won quakedelica was beyond me... many many better UK players at that time. He won an Athlon PC, also part of the prize was to play thresh.
Haha, I still have the demo of this, I was a huge fan of Q2 at the time (if you ever played Jailbreak, I made some of the maps for that mod!). Billox wasn't exactly a bad player, but Thresh was so much better it was scary. A lesson in how to comletely dominate your opponent!
It was after Thresh fully dominated Quake and Quake 2 that John Carmack famously decided to make Quake 3 easier, so any shmuck could get a frag. And that's been the trend ever since. Which is nice for n00bs. But old school was meaner...and a helluva lot more fun. :-)
Quake1 no mods only. The other Quakes and any mods within can blow goats. Ah the great old days. Wish there was still an active Quake1 server with no mods.
back in the day noone would beat thresh. Today gaming has evolved and computers are faster = more frame rates to q2 so you cannot campare the way fatility plays today compared to how thresh played then..and just so you know billox was't just some crap opponent he won a wireplay(i belive) tournemnt and the prize was to play against thresh
I have to disagree.. Thresh wouldn't easily win against most of the current top quake2 players (purri, damiah, etc). I'm sure if he practiced to get back to his level he might be able to take a couple wins here and there though... maybe :)
Billox won an online FFA tournament, on wireplay's private servers. For whatever reason none of the top UK players entered. Billox wasn't a bad player, but duelling on q2dm1 he was very average.
hehheh where there is two human beings competing on a level playing feild the comprtition will harder and harder. you can always one up somone else which is why computer games especialy works of art as far as game physics go like the quake series are just as hard to win at as games like football. people train for this stuff and there is big prise money and presteige to be won. you best beleive it.
Cuz Thresh is like 35 right now and hes retired, thats why he dont play anymore.
And Thresh and Fatal1ty would be a good match but I think in the end Thresh would win. Wendels got good adaption to the maps and games but Thresh is just oldschool Deathrow pwnage.
I played against Fatal1ty during q2 times a while back. He was ok but again nothing special. There were much better "unknown" players such as Nattas, Fury, and man others who never got the credit...but then again who wants to know that eh? EH!?!?!
Yea but it's all about consistency. And tournament play is much different than pubs...more pressure. And if you can play at a high level in that environment, then that's what sets you apart

@zsOverman There are maybe 2 real demos of thresh out there. He didn't release demos because he was afraid of tarnishing his unbeatable image.

Because the demo itself didnt show POV, its a keygripped "demo".
