The Pilium-gladius combination with professional soldiers came later, with the reforms of Gaius Marius. Cannae was fought with the citizen soldier armies as organized by Camillius. Young men as skirmishers were Hastiari, mature men well equipped were Principes, and old men, few in number but heavily equipped, asTriiari.
heh, I'm not sure Ben has the Narration voice down for something like this. That said, I'd definitely have actually WATCHED the show more had he done it.
you have a point, but the symbolism would have been important enough for the Romans to use salt to ensure that Carthage could never rise again. Besides the purpose of the Third Punic War was to destroy Carthage
firstly, hannibal formed a 3 man deep cresent as a front line. the reserves to keep formation on the font line AS WELL AS the elite african mercinaries were kept in reserve. cavalry on the flanks was correct. they failed to note that about as many as 10,000 romans managed to fight their way out. look it up if you find that hard to believe.
Is that right? Well "Grammar Dude"... you're wrong!!! I concede that you caught me by surprise at first, but I've looked in an OXFORD ENGLISH dictionary as well as the internet and they both give me definitions of the word "firstly". Walk before you run mate.
Oh i read a nobel about ti , but it took them 2 chapters to describe what happenes, it tok this guy 2 minutes, in gengeral he did a prettty good job, hurried but good
Yeah i have and love that game, but this guy is complainig about the incauracy of the thing, i say it was pretty well done to be mad ein two minutes, but i bet that was a really good computer
Only beef i have witht this documentary is the whole "sow the earth with salt around Carthage" fallacy. Did u know that at the time salt was so rare and expensive that Legionaries were often paid in salt instead of gold - hence the modern term 'salary' ;)!)Do u really think they would use enourmous quantities of a precious commodity just for symbolism? lol XD
Um okay...they didnt sow the earth with salt as he says. It was too expensive at the time. If they did it at all, it would be a little pinch of salt on the earth as a symbolic gesture.XD
Yes they did sow the earth with salt. Yes it was very expensive at the time. But the battle of Cannae has THE MOST famour tactic in military history and it was, is and will be used in all kinds of warfare, from arguements to full scale wars. The idea of sowing the ground with salt is to completely and utterly wipe Carthage out of memory.
I don't have the full episode. Ben didn't end up doing the series. However, the episode that was broadcast can be purchased at the History Channel store with a different actor doing the commentary.

You are an idiot for calling me one without a reason ...
kortenaken 2 years ago
YOur comment that a "MOD" allowed a player to have more units on screen is stupid.
Are you an idiot? It all depends on the computer quality. Not a mod which "fastens your computer".

JJW8a, "firstly", isn't a word. The correct grammar would've been "first of all". You've been pwned by the Grammar Dude!
