They came in 1 metre short, the rear left gear got snagged in the retaining apparatus, and as the pilot attempted an adjustment by lifting slightly, the rear gear held firm and the chopper therefore rolled heavy around the snag, flipping the craft up & over, breaking free as it's weight tore the snag appart, thus plunging hard on it's left side into the water.

I'm surprised everyone died!?!? Really? sad if anyone died, but odd.

I think as said before, this formed part of an exercise and was intended to be an aggressive landing on a hostile ship. Just an observation, but you can see as he comes in the rear left wheel catches and becomes caught on the metal framework. rotor angle >lift raises heli but wheel is caught pushing it on it's back/side. You can see the wheel literally snap off the railing as it goes down. Training is as dangerous as the real thing.

first off, that was not a carrier, second it wasnt supposed to land, it was just supposed to hover around 15 ft above the flight deck fast rope in 18 marines and leave, it was part of a 5 helicopter training mission to take down an enemy ship. and the boats in the background contain crack teams of navy seals to assist the takeover

It wasn't a a soft landing for the passengers. out of 18 people on board only 11 survived. The men in the back were standing up ready to fast rope when they hit the water. The pilots and crewchief survived and only 8 marines in the back. I just went through Dunker training to learn how to get out of a submerged aircraft. Its not fun.

It wasn't the wind that blew the Aircraft off the deck. The Pilot tried to apply Full power and raise the colective which caused a pivot point and a rolling motion. Thats what we call a dynamic roll over and theres nothing you can do to stop it.
