  • My Suggestion for sharpen the Tungsten rods , You can use the Tungsten grinders . it's most adviseable and No skilled operator is not required for this. Try this it's cost effective and safe opertions

  • thats a good way to grind it but the BEST way is to use a belt sander

  • gloves on a pedastood grinder yah thats smart catch the cloth of somthing might hurt

  • lol every one is bitching about this guy, hasnt anyone realized he works for lincoln, you should of know this was going to be expected....."silly lincoln, miller is for welding"

  • Thorium is radioactive dude. You shouldnt grind without a vacuum pulling away the air.

  • WTF is an exrta hand... looks like a balance'n act and/or a waste of cash/scrap

  • Shame on Lincoln for not educating their employees on this important issue, and for releasing this without a review by an Industrial Hygienist. They should discourage the use of thorium all together, let alone be grinding in the open with no respiratory protection (not to mention the lack of faceshield and guard turned up). What's next Lincoln, welding on a loaded gun? For an authoritative discussion thorium hazards, see AWS's fact sheet 27, Thoriated Tungsten Electrodes (Google it)

  • The only way the radiation in the 2 percent thorium or thoriated tungsten will effect a person is if you were grinding it all day every day, and you might get cancer, no more of a risk than standing too close to your microwave.

  • Thank for your tips

  • not a very good video

  • "You can burn your fingers" No shit sherlock.

  • Very helpful video.

  • This video should be named how to use a bench grinder. There is nothing here about using a tig welder.

  • About the tip: I usually sharpen it to about 30°. But if i need a wider spread of the heat i sharpen it to about 60°. I hope this help somebody!/Girl-Welder.

  • Who uses a bench grinder to grind wood and burn plastic?

  • Very interesting.

  • Worst welding video ever

  • If i am using a bench grinder and go to hard just with a piece of steel it stops, a hand would stop one no problem

  • Hmmmm, Grinding an electrode on top of your machine....nice!

  • Who the f(*& gets their hand sucked into one of those slow ass no power grinders? Someone high I bet.

  • And as far as using a bench grinder with gloves on don't make me laugh! hahah I do it all the time as long as you have the tool rest set 1/8 from the stone its not gonna pull anything in. yeah you can stop those little ones with not a lot of force

  • Thoriated tungsten (red stripe) is radioactive. He should be wearing a dust mask and dust extraction on that grinder. Otherwise stick to the non radioactive electrodes.

  • @rickylarch well yes but its still mainly tungsten just like any electrode.. might be bad if you sat at a bench for 40 years grinding them with no ventilation. Every tig welder iv'e worked with does this its called welding no one said it was good for you!.

  • @rickylarch quit being a pussy

  • @fcjasonk03 I know, Right?

  • @rickylarch at my high school we use 2% thoriated tungsten(red stripe) and we never use a dust mask or dust extractor is that somthing we should be? ha?

  • @bigbobgotu just use ceriated (orange) or lanthanated (blue). fuck thorium.

  • @rickylarch You can't be sure, the food You eat isn't radioactive too...

  • It's a bench grinder not a lathe.... I think he'll still have his hand!

  • I was convinced this guy was a professional until he started grinding with gloves on!!!! I think i would rather grind a bit of skin off by accident then have my glove sucked up into the grinding wheel and loose the whole hand. :(

  • @jumpfinder Are you serious?

  • @heyitsryanb yes I am serious, a employee of mine at my shop can show you whats left of his fingers after a simple craftsman 6'' grinder got ahold of his glove!! not a good sight

  • @jumpfinder I had a welding glove get pulled into a similar machine when I was learning my trade, it got my index finger in between the rest plate and the grinding wheel, went through the glove in what felt like a millionth of a second and took a nice chunk out of my finger, I pulled it out almost as soon as I felt the glove get pulled in so damage was nothing more than a nasty chunk of missing flesh that has long since healed. Lesson learned: I don't use gloves on grinders anymore!! :D

  • @WolfieTed

def, no gloves with grinders or circular saws, anything that can pull ur fingers or hand in...

  • @moseseseseses

that is terrible pay, starting pay here is $38 per hour and we get double overtime after 37 hours per week.

  • @drmmhmda You must be tig welding stainless, because in New Orleans, the pay is $39.00 per hour for such. As far as inland jobs go, tig welding stainless pipe does pay the most. But a lot of offshore welders still come home with larger checks because of the 84 hours per week they get, 44 hours a week overtime.

  • @moseseseseses

I am up in Canada, pay is much higher here as is the of living. Working in remote areas and in the oilfields is about $80.00 per hour.

  • @moseseseseses Shit! with those hours I would be making over $5000 dude??? And I'm only a MIG and Stick welder

  • ya thats pretty important step!!! u just to touch it lightly just take the point off makes for imbrellea type arc pattern for better welds and arc control.

  • You missed out showing a close up of what he tip should look like when finished.

  • @krusher74 sharped to a fine point

  • Thanks, for the lesson.
