  • When this title was released 30 yrs. ago I immediately loved it so much, but never expected that it would become an all-time hit & seller!

  • wow i luv this song it rocks.

  • tony rocks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tony Christie could sing any song on a Radio Show every Saturday morning back in the sixties. There were two other singers with Tony - Laura Lee and Danny Street, and you had to phone in requesting your favourite song and one of them would sing it. Brian Matthew was the DJ presenter and the show was Easy Beat. It was everybody's favourite then, and I'm certain most older generation will remember it.

  • Tony can be seen almost every day enjoying a cup of tea at one of his favourite bars near his home in southern Spain. I won't tell you where though. He's a very nice chap - not pretentious at all. You have to get him really pissed before he'll go on the karaoke.

  • I remember seeing Tony Christie on his first TV appearance (Des O'Connor Show or similar) Great voice and some great singles. Shame he NEVER seemed to credit Neil Sedaka but keeps referring to it as HIS song...

  • Wow he still sounds great.

  • Every artist wants this.

To make a great comeback after your peak was reached.

So few get this chance. Glad he made it.

  • It was a thrill for me after having listened to this song my whole life to finally go to Ammarillo alot when I was living in the USA driving interstate,It is such a simplke thing ,but so rewarding ,Just like "Allentown" by Billy joel and Galviston and so on ,So blessed I am

  • I was 3 ma,gees ,I was 40 last week,Tony is one of the 1st musical influences in my life ,Love his music

  • I love seeing the likes of Tony singing now(amongst many other artists from my youth) theyve been thru all those fascinating eras that I search on utube, the 50s,the flower power 60s, the groovy 70s which SO appeal to me, but i was a mere kid :( lol.then i think it goes downhill fast lol.80s.90s... and here he is large as life itself in the noughties.., still belting it out and looking great. I love re-discovering my favourites on here, seeing them STILL doing what they did best is a bonus :)

  • Jay Ashton sings a great version of "Amarillo" in the video response above (when it's approved)

  • Thomas Reeve. Every time I dance to this song I think of you. RIP. Jane Yorkshire 2009.

30 years from now, picture some "rap artist" playing one of "their" hits like this.

Or name one that you think will still be alive and out of jail in 30 years.

  • Has Tony Christie actually been to Amarillo?

  • Nobody knows!

  • I understand he has and he has also been made a Freeman of the City! Thanks to people like me pestering the city of Amarillo to thank this guy for putting a down and out American city on the world map!

  • I think he went there last year when he was invited by the mayor of Amarillo and made a freeman of the City, saw something about it on TV.

  • lol! My parents were talking to some Brits in Mexico one time, & when they told the Brits they were from Amarillo, they were all like, "You're from Amarillo? Oh my God! What is it like down there?" My parents respnded, "Um...It's dry, windy, & flat with no trees." and the Brits are all like, "What?"

  • Why do I love this song?

  • Because it's AWESOME!

  • Not sure cos it's sure um er " an aquired taste " , now the original version by Neil sedaka is another matter

    i like it

  • LUV THIS

  • i want showgirls, too. it would be great to have some dancing around here... hmmm...

  • I love Tony Christie singing this song, but my husband doesn't like it, so I can only play it here on YouTube when he is not around. lalalalalala BRILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Okay, hold up- and why did Jimmy Buffet not write this song? Prolly 'cause Florida keys are better that Amarillo I suppose, but dayum, he missed a good hit song.

  • As much nas I luv this guy he was better in His younger days

  • Thirty years on, and this guy has not lost any vocal quality whatsoever. Wow!

This takes me back to very happy times in my childhood!

  • He still sounds very great and professional, considering that this tune is a 1970 - 71 hit.

  • Heliv, you may be right. I've actually written a poem about it if you care to offer your opinions?:

What with his wysdom and his chivalrie,

He conquered al the regne of femenye,

    That whilom was ycleped scithia,

    And weddede the queene ypolita.

  • Thx for posting this.

This guy is a classic, right up there with Petula Clarke!

  • is this the way to armadillo shalalalalaaaaaa

  • Cool party song

  • You've got to be kidding me!!! Vegas showgirls!!! (I'm from Vegas) Totally detracts from the great execution of the song. Jeez, I'm so tired of these shows that think they have to supplement a great song with such cheezy "eye candy."

  • You're right, get rid of the showgirls. The song does justice on its own and don't need this chicks.

  • I want the original. young Cristie..

    shallalalalalaLA

  • war mal bei einem seiner Konzerte- toller Mann, trotz des Alters... ;-) Seine Stimme und seiner Lieder sind toll.

  • I like Tony Christie and this song

  • I actually went through Amarillo when I was in America - all I can say, is that I assume this song is toungue-in-cheek? My advice is AVOID the way to Amarillo, whether or not Marie is there!

  • You're right - NOTHING out there!

  • I will agree that this is a great song, but I was raised near Amarillo and just want to saw that there is a lot to see and do in there, especially for a town of its size. Amarillo is really a great place and I suggest that you look around and give it a try. Not trying to be rude, but Amarillo just holds a special place in my heart.

  • beautiful old classic; thanks for posting;

  • I thought the girls were a nice touch.
