I don't know if people in other areas of the country don't see these trains often but in the great lakes area where cars are manufactured. These are mostly the only train cars I've seen my whole 30 year life. Me My Dad 2 brothers and 2 uncles have been filling these train cars with Fords for a very very long time.

Yes the auto makers are/were in trouble but they still sell millions of cars per month. In the first quarter of 2009 about 2.5 million new cars were sold, about half the year before. Almost every one of those was transported by rail in one of those auto rack cars. Trains are the primary long haul distribution method for the auto makers, its the safest and cheapest.

Honestly people, these cars have been around for at least 25 years. Yes they are for cars and for those of you old enough to remember will also remember and lived by a set of train tracks,new cars were hauled without any protection. Now as a youngster and a little shit I remember throwing rocks at all these shiny new vehicles well ... you get the picture. Recently, two eight foot sections of RR track were cut out with a torch and the perps were reportedly going to scrap the tracks at a salvage for cash. YEAH RIGHT! In my opinion the bad guys were either Muslim terroist preparing to derail trains in order to kill people or could have been patriots testing how to stop the transport of detained citizens/patriots. Moving patriots by train would probably be impossible because any train could be derailed at a slow speed. I do not indorse this practice.

I don't know if people in other areas of the country don't see these trains often but in the great lakes area where cars are manufactured. These are mostly the only train cars I've seen my whole 30 year life. Me My Dad 2 brothers and 2 uncles have been filling these train cars with Fords for a very very long time.

Regardless of how I feel, many give their lives and lasting effort(with or without consent) so the few can live comfortably. Instead of resisting, try riding the wave. Reality is not so easily defined as to say "this is that", it's infinitely more complex and manipulable than it would seem.

You stupid bonehead! These cars have been around for decades. They are commonly called "auto racks" and there's every chance the vehicle you drive arrived in your town on one. They used to be open, but rock-throwing vandals led to their being paneled in with perforated sheets many years ago. The panels DO NOT open. Loading of vehicles takes place only through end doors. I'm in Vancouver, Canada and we've been shipping thousands of import cars from RoRo ships east via these cars.

These cars are loaded/unloaded from the front and back. The side panels are not used for loading, they are only part of the structural design.

Okay, those ARE NOT NEW types of train cars, as a matter of fact, i saw a train car just like that get unloaded at a BIG FORD DEALERSHIP YARD, they haul CARS, TRUCKS, VANS, and SUVs. in the past they didnt have the siding pannels, but kids used to throw rocks at car windows. now the silver side pannels were added to protect cargo from debree.

and as far as the amtrak facility, the "watch tower" is used for changing lights and the reason there are helicopters going over is because there is an airport about 3 miles away. there are windsocks on most every major industrial building and i can give you a picture of a wood furniture manufacturer that has inward facing fences. The assertion in the notes that these types of railcars are not used for cars in uninformed and misguided. The auto industry has not collapsed and these rail cars have been in use since the 1970's. You can verify this information by going to Wikipedia and searching auto rack, or Googleing U.S. auto sales figures or going to the webpage of TTX Co. the primary owner and leaser of autoracks in the U.S. and Canada.

I realize this video was posted a year ago but in 2008 over 13 million new cars were sold in the U.S., and that was a bad year. Yes the auto makers are/were in trouble but they still sell millions of cars per month. In the first quarter of 2009 about 2.5 million new cars were sold, about half the year before. Almost every one of those was transported by rail in one of those auto rack cars. Trains are the primary long haul distribution method for the auto makers, its the safest and cheapest.

Took a drive down the street and came upon a newer, slicker, less-grafittied version of a transport train which was stopped on the tracks on an overpass. It was 3 stories tall, white, with nine small ventalation boxes on each car. I am not questioning your wisdom or judgment. But these cars are obviously being mass-produced and positioned throughout the US. for reasons unknown to the general public.

Yesterday, May 9th, 2010, a train with about 35 "FEMA" cars was parked on one of the sidings here in East Tennessee. I pulled to a safe spot and looked inside one of them. Lo and behold, it and all the others were full of new GM cars! Imagine that! Of course, there may have been people shackled inside the cars too. I'm just sayin'

Its a regular freight train. Those train cars can hold cars, live stock, whatever. If it was a FEMA or other government train, surely it would probably be all black and stored somewhere that the graffitti artists would not be able to tag on the train cars.
