  • cool sweet sesy doll who is not just all about the looks

  • also Im a student, living by herself, in love with fashion

  • I didn't see the whole movie what happened to her daughter at the end?

  • Anna Paquin is so cute.

  • Una de mis películas favoritas, espero que alguien tenga la amabilidad de subirla complete... para los que aun tenemos un corazón sensible.

  • Well I have just found out the little girl is actually Anna aka Sookie from True Blood!! Never realised that one!

  • @gingerkisses Yes that's her. She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for this

  • What a beautiful woman.

  • the little girls voice makes me want to kill a baby

  • I love this movie. Everything about it, I love! The romance here is super erotic, intense, deeply passionate. Now that is exciting to experience. The piano involved in here, along with her mysterious, eccentric ways and of her being mute causes the drama; exciting ones and very tense ones. The movie sexually strong; I like that a lot of course.

  • I agree with EyeLean5280: the plot of this movie is in the Gothic genre, for which the earliest influence is the Greek Tragedy. Read the Wikipedia article; the plot isn't entirely original.

  • harvey keitel's eyes in this film-- my god. he is so good.

  • This is more Gothic. Gothic romances were set in the Victorian era and were dark, usually with men with a mysterious past, women who were stronger than their typical counterpart, and included romance. It has nothing to do with today's 'goth' culture or dark clothing. Victoria Holt wrote gothic romance. Bronte wrote gothic.

  • if you love this, you MUST watch the video of "Let There Be Light "!!... it's a song by rock noir band BELLADONNA and MICHAEL NYMAN and it's based on this music from "The Piano". Michael Nyman himself plays piano on it... search for "belladonna nyman" here on youtube and you'll find it!! :-)

  • @sensualgun I have seen the video you mention but it didnt rock my boat. Maybe because I am 47 years old and my taste is more traditional. That said, Belladonna has a nice voice :)

  • Is that anna paquin? O.o the little girl?

  • @loopynutcase Yes, it is...and she won an Oscar for this role...Best movie ever made!

  • does anyone else notice the small girl is the girl from X men the film, rouge isn't it!?!

  • This beautiful music here is available to buy on Michael Nyman's web site. Go to MN Records dot com and it's available on the CD called 'The Piano'

  • this movie wicked sexy.... damn. i've seen this plenty. It never get old.

  • this is the best love romantic movie ever ...

and holly hunter is the great diva of this film..

    music so wonderfull.....

  • un de mes films préférés

  • muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuy buena

  • @3RAMAR BUENICIMA

  • buena peli pero ponganla es español please

  • SOOOOOKEEEEHH!!!

  • Best Piano song eveeeeerrrrr

  • Absolutamente arrebatador este filme....

  • Wow, this is an excellent film: romantic and still not stupid; subtle and still nerve racking. Ada, I love you; Baines, you rule -in the end.

  • @channover, I would call this film "gothic" rather than romantic (though yes, it is about love relationships). If you like this story, you would probably also like the book Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.

  • @EyeLean5280 Gothic?! it takes place during 'victorian times'...(look at the clothing, hairstyle, etc) and there's nothing Gothic about it, unless you think the New Zealand landscape (prior to all the immigrants settling there) is Gothic to you?! BTW, wearing black doesn't necessarily make anything Gothic...

  • @EmmaRose473 Dear EmmaRose,

There are several valid reasons to refer to "The Piano" as "Gothic."

"Gothic" is, among other things, a literary and cinematic term for certain types of stories, told in particular ways. Some examples include "Wuthering Heights," "Jane Eyre" and the writings of Edgar Allen Poe. The style is still quite popular and "The Piano" falls into the Gothic genre...

  • @EyeLean5280 No Kidding?!...and I still say that the Piano is not in the gothic style----period! I too was an English Literature Major who graduated with honors...but thank you for your opinion, which we're all free to have! Peace!

  • @EmmaRose473 - well, given your background, your remarks are surprising. You come off sounding like a cocky 14 year old who doesn't have the slightest idea what he's talking about.

  • @EyeLean5280 First of all I'm a 'she'...second of all, and this should end of conversation, at least from my end----IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN AN ARGUMENT WITH AN IGNORANT PERSON----bye...

  • @EmmaRose473 meant 'OUR' instead of 'OF'...multi-tasking, and wasting time with ignorance...

  • @EmmaRose473 Dont you think you are over reacting. Dont take what others say as a direct attck against you. We are all different and this place can be a killing field for those ready to take up the challenge :)

  • a pas comprendu...

  • Better than the movie is the soundtrack, the soundtrack alone. Michael Nyman is such a genious.

  • Excelente película!!!

  • What is the piece called that is played during this portion of the movie?

  • The Promise [The Heart Asks Pleasure First]

  • this is like the only version that has the piu mosso, as the heart asks for pleasure first actually should have. but it just lasts for the last 2 seconds of this vid xD

and I agree, that part sounds weird :/

  • which movie is this??

  • The piano, or "La leçon de piano" in french.

    It's a manificent movie! I love this.

  • I heard of this movie by searching piano on youtube : D It sounds great, even if I'm a bit young to watch it, like a lot of others I watch them anyways

Plus, this sounds like a great movie!

  • Yes, it's her. She just won a golden globe too.

  • yes she is. she is also in an hbo series right now called "true blood". check it out. its really good.

  • yeah she is

    her name is anna paqin.

she's soo cute in this :P

  • She is also young Jane Eyre in 1996Zeffirelli's movie. Actually she is the best Jane Eyre kid ever. Wild and passionate.

  • beautiful film, i want to watch the full episode it'so touch my feeling

  • I never saw this film. But the soundtrack was used as a song in one of the Lloyds TSB adverts in UK.

Today, while having Tea at the Dorchester Hotel in London, I heard this song, and I quickly jumped to the chance to find out what its called, after searching for it for the last year.

The Song mingles Innocence with Freedom... I think I better see the film now :)))

  • Can anyone tell me why Sam Neill's character, Alistair Stewart, was so upset with Flora for playing with the native children and hugging trees? He made her wash the tree trunks. I didn't understand that scene.

  • Mainly because The Piano is set in a very old fashioned rigid society and the kids weren't hugging tree trunks, they were simulating sex with them - Flora had seen Ada and Baines. Because sex was tabboo in this era, Stewart was upset and embarassed and therefore punished her by making her wash the tree trunks.

  • Yes it was the Victorian era and proper young ladies didn't do such things back then. I'm surprised that Alistair didn't just assume Flora was acting like that because she was playing with the "unrefined" native children, and jumped to the conclusion of a possible liason between Ada & Baines at that point in the film.

  • Kid actors usually stink, but Anna Paquin was outstanding in this movie. This is the kind of film that gets better with each viewing.

  • PURA POESIA, LOVE THIS

  • I loved this movie, but it is so sad though.

  • I don't think sad is the word I would use... the lovers do get to spend the rest of their lives together. It's a poigniant film, but ultimately a happy ending.

  • one of the most rapturously beautiful films i've ever seen.

  • 2:59 - I love how the director included a mouse cursor into this particular scene! ;)

  • lol

  • 2:36 - this has got to be the most beautiful and effective use of a moving-pan shot. her face, while getting a muddled view of the surroundings. combined with the music - its basically a perfect shot

  • My son and I were just at that beach last week, breathtaking solitude.

  • Is it infested with sharks and deadly jellyfish like Australia's beaches?

  • she's mute - not deaf. she can hear everything - duh

  • ofcourse she's not deaf, she understands what the guys saying ;)

  • lip reading?

  • NO she is MUTE (can't speak) not deaf

  • I think the mom is mute not deaf

  • If you haven't yet seen this wonderful movie you must go and rent "The Piano"

I just love that Harvey Keitel!

  • gawd dammit i miss New Zealand beaches! yeah fantastic movie. that girl is soo adorable! ^_^

  • Amo esa pelicula, es una de mis favoritas, saludos desde Monterrey

  • love this movie...

  • I always considered Neil a slightly dull actor, but he certainly proved me wrong that time around. Keitel and Hunter were absolutely breath-taking, though...

  • simply beautiful.

  • i want to find this vcd ! i have this soundtrack !

  • one word to this movie and music: beautiful

  • One of the best movies I've ever seen, with the best soundtrack ever.

  • With all the praise for the music, I feel inadequate somehow that the music didn't stand out to me the first time (and only time) I saw this movie, at least. The music didn't impact me the way the music in PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK did, for example.

  • does anyone have this video i can download from them? ive tried everywhere and I need to see this again. I will trade other movies to upload to you if you have it?

  • i thought it was bugs bunny ?

  • Thanks for uploading...Simply wonderful. The little girl is so cute when says:"WE CAN'T LEAVE THE PIANO"

  • the title of the music is called "the heart ask pleasure first" by michael nyman. i have the sheet in a book but im sure u can find it online ~

  • this is one of my favorite movies.

  • Harvey Keitel es fascinante, absolutamente demoledor. Su más rendida admiradora, yo.

  • I love this. DO you think you could post a video of only the last scene though? The one when she plays the piano and they're on the beach? That would be great. Thanks.
