actually tar can be hot as hell's fires but it can be left to simmer until its just a gooey mass, neither hot nor cold. first you have to heat it to five hundred degrees, tho! People mistake tarpits to be hot but the tarpits really bubbles from methane gas and its as hot as the temperature of the day. I can understand people's skepticism. and No they're right. when they TFed someone, they removed every piece of garment. the flesh was made to suffer and burn.

tar was generally really really hot and usually melted ur skin off as a result the victim was horribly disfigured , not a very pleasant punishment but it sure made a point .

If that had been real tar, I seriously doubt that the girl would have been so compliant about it, not to mention the fact that she helped smear it all over herself. It would take several days to remove real tar. It's almost as bad as cement considering how sticky it is; and it's worse than cement where pain is concerned.

Tarring and feathering is no laughing matter. The victim was stripped naked and hot tar was poured over him, then he was covered with feathers and paraded through town. Few survived because the hot tar caused 3rd degree burns, severe blistering, and skin loss, and with no defense against germs and infection, the poor victim was not likely to survive. It's not funny.
