because he was such a great pianist, people forget that Spann was also a superb singer. His early death, at a time when I wasn't much more than a babe in arms, means that he was one of the many greats that I never got the chance to see and hear live.
Indeed, Otis had side-lined with most if not all of the blues greats in the 60's, and I was lucky enough to see him in London in the 60's with the complete Muddy Waters blues band. Never to be forgotten, and ol' Otis still sends shivers down my spine.

Go listen to Vince Weber - "Vince the Prince" - He boogies, by himself....and he's a German.
He sings and plays like the most soulful dude on earth and he was in his 20's in 1981 when the video was made.
All due respect to the oldtimers and pioneers, but the art got improved and refined.
