Great video, thanks! I've seen videos of using A/C pumps for small air compressors. I thought these pumps needed oil in the gas they pump to be lubricated so they'd fail (soon?) if just used for compressing air?
The gas is phosgene gas I was trained as long with all the guys on board the submarines I was on in the US NAVY . IT is deadly gas and we were trained to get to a EAB air on land get to fresh air fast.
@sirtokesalot47 I am not an expert but I would say the reason it does not cycle off is because the thermostat is broke, as long as it is cooling the room or house the proper temp. and not shutting off. The only reason I can think of the water comming out of the back that it is the moisture build up that the ac unit contains in the drain pan which as long as it is spraying outside dont worry about it
@CalebEatsaBullet yes but you need to have the automotive connections on the hoses those hoses you see there are for the AC unints the automotiv ones are alot bigger and are mostly quick connect style but the manifold will work as long as it is designed for r134a or r12 (r414a)
Very informative video. Unsure of the laws in Canada, but the biggest problem here in the US is that average people can't buy Freon anymore. I remember when I was a kid working in a hardware store that we sold it to anyone so they could fix their AC units. I had a compressor go bad on a central AC unit and even had a hard time finding a place that would sell one to me. Most supply places won't even sell anything to an average Joe like me. They'll only deal with heating/cooling businesses.
@MrAAA3330 And for good reason. Must be licensed to fill or remove Freon. It has to be removed from any car that is junked. Ozone layer has a hole the size of Ontario. (Canada Province).
Dave does not scrap perfectly working items, or items needing minor repairs. He fixes and resells them. (You can sell each one repaired and used for more money than taking the entire pile to the scrap yard and only getting $__ for 10 or 15 units.)
Unfortunately, the market for used window A/C's is fading away..and these just sit around in his shop.
@davidrobert2007 I totaly agree with you. Even if the thing he showing us about is not intressting for just me it's still relaxing and nice to watch it.
@adam66688 I have been following Dave for 2+ years now and this is him. He stated some time ago that he was going to re-upload his old videos. Anyway, if you want to unsub him fine your loss. It's not like you're sub is making any difference as he isn't getting any money for his vids anymore.
@adam66688 What the hell is wrong with you? He has plenty of new videos he made of himself. Hell even Bloke and Rickem (When they used to get along) gave a shout out to this channel which is how I re-discovered Dave returned to YT.
He's even putting up his old material from the 90's, obviously Dave runs the channel.
dave, what about oxy/propane? i have several of these torches, hot enough to melt gold/silver/precious metals. ( i use them making/repairing jewelry, and high end watches)
I took an A/C class when I was going to school for my auto tech degree. They never discussed R-22 since they only use R-12 and R-134a in cars. Do you know what the difference is between these refrigerants? Can I use R-22 scavenged from an old window A/C unit to charge a R-12 A/C unit in an old car? I never liked using the R-134a conversion kits on these older cars - they don't tend to cool quite as well as good ol' R-12...not to mention potential problems with oil compatibility.
@AKJeeper No unfortunately not R-22 is not compatible with R-12, but because R-12 is getting very expensive and even hard to find these days at least where I live. There is a replacement called freeze 12, and all need to is buy the oil and there's a kit that goes over the R-12 filler valves, and you don't have to flush or do anything. I have used it in my old Ford and it seemed work pretty well.
I have heard that a kid inhaled freon gas out of a mattress his dad filled instead of using air and the gas filled his lungs which filled the lung capacity and died from not being able to bring air back in
Thanks for the info Dave. This was very informative. Where I live (North Carolina, USA) you have to be licensed to work with and purchase R22. However, there are many tips you gave that anyone can do that will help prevent expensive repair bills. I wish I had known about the capacitor for the fan on my central air unit last summer...it would have saved me probably $200!
@Foxrider67Dawson Dave did that a couple of years ago with a bunch of units in his barn. He also tuned a bunch in to Canadian Tire for about $1650 in-store credit .
Well, if those air conditioner's use R22 then you can't call it "Freon", because Freon is the brand name for R12. I use the word "Refrigerant" universally for all air conditioning and refrigerator/freezer gases.
im glad your putting up a good stream of videos again, i really wish you could have your 1500 videos back, youtube probably has your channel only on lockdown, I wish they would let you use it again

New A/C units all use R410a just in case you are curious. New units must all be charged with this as R22 has been discontinued.
