  • in regards to equipment used,

your voice clarity and levels were awesome through out the whole thing, what did you use, a boom mic or....

also just out of curiosity did you have a dedicated video camera or were you using a high end DLR with video?

  • @theflamingpanda Hey!

Audio wise - Yep, a boom mic. The audio was recorded on an audio recorder and synced in post.

At the time of filming, there were no DSLR shooting video. We shot on a RED One camera. With the money I spent on rentals, you could buy a DSLR - Which is a good option! Just get the audio right.

  • Sweet shit.

Hadn't seen this in a long time.

Watched it 3-times in a row hahaha.

  • one month later, i realise that you got to work with the RED. how was its workflow?

more importantly, how did you get the budget to hire it?

  • @SportsCurry Heya! The workflow went pretty smoothly for me, as I had a background in post production and I had researched a lot before the shoot.

In relation to the budget. While doing year 12 I had my own business, so I was able to finance my film through money made from producing corporate videos.

  • Hey... Saw this on the Top Films DVD in my friend's house. I remembered you and just got back from her place... once more, nice film.

I got the pyrotechnics done by a local company and police uniforms from a company that provides guns and uniforms to the film industry.

Arty, playing the performing midget, I knew from another project I was involved in.

  • hey i'm another person who saw this at top screen, and i have to say it was reeeaaaalllyyy well done. if you get the chance i think you should upload it (coz i wanna see it again haha). kudos to you for such awesome work.

  • Hey I was another that saw this a top screen yesterday. We were also talking about it in class and how well you have done! It was defenitly the best one there! I am still stuck for ideas for my year 12 film this year! Well donee!!

  • Thanks for that :)

An idea will come to you, just think simple -

Even look in newspapers, heaps of news you could adapt into a great short film, or look at people around you, develop characters based on people you know. Can actually be pretty fun! :) good luck!

  • Also saw this at top screen. Nice work. How'd you get the Red One? How much was it? Did it add complications in editing?

  • Thanks. I hired from Lemac, I think I was the first high school student to hire the Red One from them, so it took a few conversations and a meeting to get it.

the camera kit with lenses was about $1,600 a day.

There isnt many complications, as long as you have an intel mac to work on with the latest FCP. Since this film, I have done post production on a couple of projects shot on Red with no problems.
